Venice rumors here please!

Some say it will be announced on the 4th, others state mid-month for shipping.

I hope it enters the channel pretty soon. I got the memory/sound/graphics(X800 XL for 399$CDN, not too shabby) and I'm heavily considering the 2405FPW. Only thing I'm missing is the SN25P and the Venice.

in a way it was already annouced. there were pdf's from amd saying that they were replacing 3000-4000 with the new revision. i don't think we'll get an official launch because there really is nothing to launch

even if they wanted to have a launch it would be a very short lived one.

"We now have SSE3, thanks for coming."

Higher ocing ability is not something they will advertise and lower tdp is still not know for sure is it? Don't worry though for all the ocing sites will probably be buzzing on the day NDA's are lifted.

yeah, we'll definitly hear stuff.
and i don't think they'll lower the TDP because that way they can get more out of each chip (instead of having to bin them lower because of thermals) and it allows to get to higher speeds before heat becomes an issue again.
that's assuming the power output has been reduced with the new revision

besides, if you ask me, 67w is awesome for a high end desktop chip these days. shame on intel for the p4 and amd for launching the fx-55 at 104w. nothing should ever get that high if it doesn't need to :D

do you guys have a source in which you can verify this by? hmm then should i be getting my xp120 now for $43 or hope that prices drop for that heatsink during the time of release of the venice?

This is a bit scary:

Athlon 64 revision E won't work on some Nforce 3/4 boards

By Fuad Abazovic in Hannover: Saturday 12 March 2005, 19:27

PROBLEMS APPEAR to be affecting Athlon 64 revision E chips on some Nforce 3 and Nforce 4 motherboards. Symptoms include motherboard shut down and failure to boot, according to reports here from CeBIT.
Revision E chips from AMD are just released and brings stuff like SSE3 support inside a 90 nanometre die. AMD on the other hand didn't make a big noise about its announcement.

We learned that if you have this Athlon and already have Nforce 3 or Nforce 4 board that there is a big chance that you may encounter problems. We are told that AMD changed its thermal regulation protection and that's what makes it incompatible with at least some of the Nforce 3 and Nforce 4 boards out there.

In order to solve these problems, new motherboards might be necessary and there doesn't appear to be an instant fix. We are attempting to gather more details here in Hannover. µ

Nvidia denies Nforce 3/4 problems

By Fuad Abazovic: Thursday 17 March 2005, 10:38

WE HAD A CHANCE to talk to Nvidia about our article where we mentioned that Nforce 3 and Nforce 4 might have problems with the new Revision E Athlons but Nvidia categorically denied the issue. You can check that story, here.
Nvidia said that it tried Revision E CPUs and that it hasn't got any problems at all.

We were pointed to one thread at a support forum where DFI said that it can solve those problems with a new BIOS and that the company has already played with 3000+ revision E Athlon.

We will ask other motherboard manufacturers about the putative problem, but I guess the only way to know it is to plug one in and see if it works. µ

kind of old. and i can prove that venice works on the msi k8n neo2 for all of you who still have one ;)

Most boards will possibly need an updated Bios for them to run properly. It will be up to the individual motherboard makers to offer an updated Bios.

So, they're replacing the 3700+'s with Lancaster cores? Or... or.. Well, I don't see a point of another revision for ClawHammers, "CG" is already working great. Of course, you could bring SSE3, but that's a bit useless. And increases the transistor count, so no help in overclocking either.

no, no more desktop a64's for 754. it's getting converted to the turion and sempron.

God, anything but a CPU that has a max HTT of 235 no matter what (my 3700+ :( )

iddqd said:
They still make them AFAIK. So they have to use something.
Their 130nm assembly line is probably still up and running.

ah, hm.. i have a very distinct hard limit at 235.
235mhz = just fine in memtest all night
236 = memtest locks on either test 5 or 8.

Im sorry, I didnt read the full thread.

Im wondering, what is so great about these cards (not trolling, actually asking) are they good OCers?

And will they replace the Current AMD 64 CPUs?

Im upgrading in aboot 3 months, will they be down in price by then?

Thanks

aboot? haha. You know, I haven't actually met anybody who says that. Except the Irish.

you should read the whole thread.
and the thread i made about the 3800+ screens.

however, yes, they appear to oc quite well. (from the limited samples i've seen)
and they should be the same price unless vendors gouge a lot.
prices are always dropping, so yes.

edit: i live very close to canada, so i get a few people who say aboot :D
edit2: plus a friend of mine who was originally from canada says aboot and eh all the time. though i think he's just being silly :D

It was a joke, I dont say aboot. I was just playing on the whole canadian sterotype with americans, who believe we say aboot, and have outlawed staplers...

I have actually not met a single canadian who sais aboot. And Ive been to PEI, winnipeg etc. I have met that classic canadian accent, but no Aboot.

Edit: Also, I say Eh, and I am proud to say it eh?

I live in Toronto, and only my geography teacher says "aboot". But he's Irish.

How do you spell Canada the right way? C-eh-N-eh-D-eh! =D

I'm definately lookin forward to venice. Held off my whole new rig just waitin for it...

Where did you read that no more desktop S754 cpus are being made?

AMD's roadmap says so. Well, it says that they will be made "as the market requires." So all current ones will be available for another year or two, but new ones won't be.

i didn't say no more desktop 754's, i said no more A64's for the desktop. i don't intend to be mean, but you must have been hiding under a rock. this is exactly why everyone has be trumpeting 939 for the last few months. i cannot think of any official documentation offhand, but think about how they announced turion for 754, sempron is moving to 754, and all the 90nm a64's are replacing the winchesters.. and they're 939 only. honestly, i will be very shocked if we see anything past 3700+ for the single channel side of the a64's.

AMD's roadmap has a line going into the "Palermo" 90nm SOI... (and another one going into Venice)

?

well not how, but the fact that they did. my bad for having poor wording early in the morning ;)

What about MB and BIOS support for the beast? That looks as if it's going to be a problem. Anyone heard anything positive about that?

Turion is a stupid name. They should have called it "Go64" or something.

nothing certain yet andy. i'll try to fill you guys in where i hear stuff if nobody beats me to it ;)

and iddqd. yeah, turion isn't great.. but whatever. haha, i realized something though
recall how amd said that the chips are on a scale from A to Z, a being mobility and Z being performance.
M = mobile
F = ?
D = dual core

so we should have:
M*-xx series for mobile
FX-xx for high performance desktop, single core
DX-xx for dual core.

though this is 100% pure speculation, i like to think that it makes sense

venice/san dieago is set to replace all winchesters.

pricing for model nubers should be equal (msrps are the same) unless some retailers gouge prices a bit.

I still don't understand how announcing Turion means there will be no more desktop A64s

there just won't be. trust me.
i would try to back up what i'm saying, but nothing's coming to mind other than the desktop a64 line for 754 definitly stops at 3700+

I was kinda hoping for a 2.6Ghz stock 1Mb s754 Turion part, but no such luck untill the end of the year at least. So I'm going after a 3700+ strained soi after all. If I can secure one, that is.

how will you assure that it's sSOI as opposed to the normal version.
and the mobile chips may hit 2.6ghz. not soon, but eventually.
