AFAIK the 3700 San Diego is very similar to the 4000 Clawhammer, other than the whole being a Revision E chip thing.

Yep, and a 4200+ which is a locked FX-55 kinda sorta but not really until theres an official 90nm FX-55 out (which is pretty soon)

i have sigs turned off so i could not tell he had a 3700+ and considering this is an ONLINE forum it is pretty impossible to tell by the sound of his voice wether or not it was sarcastic so i dont see that it was very "edgy" of me to assume that that comment was not sarcasm.

back onto venice/san diego WHY do they need a 4200? whats the point? I ask the same thing about the 4000+ why?

becuase no two FX chips can exist at the same time, although htat might be changing soon as the FX series will be the only single core chips by the end of the year (or so im guessing)

AMD already said there wont be a single core 4200+, i think the FX-55 and 57 are going to co-exist

I was going on the (now outdated) premise that the 4200+ was a 2.6ghz part. I'm not quite on top of socket 939 goingons, as they arent that important to me right now.

no that was a general statement...i actually thought that the 4200 was gonna be a2.6ghz part wich didnt make much sense thats why i asked

its good though because i dont see the point in having two almost identical chips same speed, same cache, same core would make NO sense

Agreed. I think AMD saw that and that's why they acted how they did.

So the FX-55 is a 2.4Ghz chip with 1MB cache and all multipliers unlocked.

While the 4000+ San Diego is a 2.4Ghz chip with 1MB cache and has just up to the 11x multiplier unlocked?

Then the 4200+ 4400+ and 4800+ are the A64-X2 dual core chips with 512k cache for each core.

Then the San Diegos are the 3700+ and the 4000+? Is there a 3400+ SD?

The Venices' then are 3000+ 3200+ 3500+ and 3800+? and have 512k L2

I'm getting a little confused with all these names floating about just which chip is which and has what features :confused:
 
fx-55 is 2.6ghz, fully unlocked

the 4000+, being a 2.4ghz part, needs the 12x multi for stock speeds, thus has all the multi's below it unlocked.

general rule of thumb:
FX = fully unlocked
a64 = locked upward
opteron = fully locked


there is no 3400+ san diego, though there will be a 3500+ san diego with 1/2 the cache disabled (same princible as the 3500+ clawhammer currently)

Okay, last I remembered there was a note from Monarch (I think?) that these chips were supposed to be out on a Monday (last Monday?), but apparently that diddn't happen....is it just one line of BS after another, with still no official word from AMD?

Sorry, but I diddn't feel like sifting thru it to see the current state of things....the two pages before this looked like the thread for the X2 review at anandtech.com.
 
Look at the summary in the first post. There are gems to be found in the thread thats not in there but the most of it is there.
 
Ahh, I see. That 3700+ sounds like the best processor in the bunch, but that's probably from my 1MB bias. :p

Now for some FX-57 action...

Turion works in an Asus K8V. not that anyone would use it to oc, but it does :D

Beginning to sound like the ati and nvidia. Maybe next month E3 cores will be out and E4 around June. I am guess system builders get first batch.
