also considering that absolute zero is based on a line of best fit we could technically have hit absolute zero and not even known it but i seriously doubt it (just thought i would throw some controversy into the mix)
 
well you can't measure absolute zero. thermometers work by detecting the motion of atoms. if there is no motion, you can't detect something that's not there.

plus, don't forget that annoying background microwave radiation left over from the big bang that keeps everything in space ar 3ºK or higher. :D

Skepticism, not disagreement. I just like to see things before I integrate them into what I "know" to avoid misconceptions later.

I'm not sure actually hitting "absolute zero" is of much value, although having the ability to accurately measure it that accurately would be.

This thread has become more the "random gossip while we wait for V/SD to eventually show up" thread than the "actual information/rumors about V/SD" thread. Not that I'm objecting.

it is already established that absolute zero is purely theoretical and no where in the universe does absolute zero truly exist.

With enough alcohol/anifreeze (sold in every gas station in Sweden) in it U might have some luck with it. How to chill the water to -30C THATS the question Id like to have answered... [EDIT] in a way thats acctually usable for 24/7 at home[/EDIT]

the E4's with broken cache are getting binned as 3500+'s with 512... exactly the same as a venice, only it has a more advanced power managment tech than venice, and requries a bios update to work.

God you scared me a minute. Those dates are not the OEM dates, but the box dates. I would have just gone with a winnie if they were pushed back another month.

Yes but the OEM dates for the 3800+ and 3500+ are both now April 29th

thats a full weeks bump :(

Hope the same doesnt happen with the 3700+ :(

Keep hearing dates, which keep being wrong...trusted them the first few times, now I say if it's not in stock it doesn't mean anything to me.

Anyway, seen that Clawhammer / San Diego comparison yet? Any thoughts?

what the diff between th dual core opteron 2.2ghz 1mb cache 2 series and a 2.2ghz dual core opteron 1mb cache 8 series? (that was stupid i just realized i could have just asked what is the diff between the 8xx series and the 2xx series)

8xx models have 2 Hypertransport links availible for chip to chip connections, 2xx have only 1. (1xx and desktop chips should have none for chip to chip communications)
1 Link only allows for two chips, they have to connect to eachother and that's it.
2 Links allows for (theoretically) limitless scalling, though officially only 8 chips are supported. But there are custom designs like the horus chipset that allow for at least 32 chips per board.
Same for both single and dual core, it limits the number of chips, not cores.
 
Ok, I really don't like buying OEM parts because of the warranty, but should I just bit and get the OEM? I mean, I have been waiting sooooo long and I just can't handle it. 1 year vs. 3 years it's just such a hard choice. And if I go oem what's a good hsf to get? Not the top of the line, just a mid range one since I alredy went over budget on this project...

Considering they bumped the date from April 22 to April 29, I'd say no.
