Did everyone see Neweggs new site.

Just so the huffy who's can say I stayed on Topic, perhaps Venice is for sale... let me check it out.

Sadly no. I am going to pre-order through Monarch if it is not availble through the Egg this weekend.

Ok now AMD is biting its own tail... B4 they even have Vennice and San Diego out at the retailers they start showing how good the X2 is going to be...

Now Vapo + 4400+ +OC + DFI + Plat Rev. 2 is tempting....

It might even be tempting enoug for me to drop the 3700+ idea :(

i pretty much already have... although teh dual cores are gonna be a bit more expensive - i posted prices direct from AMD in the X2 thread

remember that it appears to be -30c.. though i dunno how you can do that with waterchilling. i must be reading things wrong.

edit: aha, the temps
OverClocking (Waterchilled -30°)
new if we could just figure out if  is F or C.. or K!

Have you considered how much the 3700+ will cost by the time X2s are available for sale individually?

LMAO -30K! That thing would freeze your entire room!

well.. sorta? technically you can't actually measure 0ºK, and temperature is based on motion, which is an absolute value. while it's fun to think about, please don't actually try to go below it ;)

carnitine: you have a point. i don't know how much the introduction of dual core parts will lower prices.. but i suspect not too much.

-30C/F/K:p cannot be achieved wtih chilled water. 0C/32F/273K is ice.

this is, unless, its water with lots of salt... but taht would clog up/erode the block...

I was trying to point out not how much prices will be lowered but how much the difference is

The price difference between a 3700+ and 4400+ will be large so AMD would not be biting its own tail as Frallan described

why yes, i have... just didnt think about it
lol...dont worry we all have brain farts every now and then, even a 2/8 mix of water and antifreeze should keep it from freezing

gotcha. the way you worded it implied that the launch of X2 would bring down the price of everything else, not that X2 would be that much more expensive.. both make sense though ;)
(at least that's how i took it :p)

Absolute Zero or 0K is just as crazy as (infinity). It doesn't exist. And at -30C its probably going to be a lot more antifreeze than water, you might as well just be using antifreeze.

I see temperature a mathematical concept, so "0K" exists as such. Then the whole "mapping physics to math" thing is another issue.

Actually, there's even negative temperatures, which behave very odd; " A substance with a negative temperature is not colder than absolute zero, but rather it is hotter than infinite temperature."

But that's all very OT.

"The coldest temperature ever produced was 250picoK during an experiment on nuclear magnetic ordering in the Helsinki University of Technology's Low Temperature Lab."

The Finns sure know their low temps.

Both do. But neither is something you want in your box.

Negitive Kelvin on the other hand is just plain nonsense, temperature is a measurement of quantity so unless (like C & K) the scale is calibrated to an arbitrary value the concept is about the same as having a negative number of fingers.

ever heard of antifreeze....

Anitifreeze could only do so much. If I recall correctly at a 50/50 mixture it can only keep the coolant from freezing down to neg 50 deg C. And when you add the heat of the CPU & Peltier (or whatever method of waterchilling is being done) to the fluid, you simply could not get the water cold enough w/o freezing to maintain a -30deg C CPU temp. Just can't be done. For one I dont think the water would flow quick enough to keep the pump from frying before long. I just dont see how you could possibly maintain a -30 deg C CPU temp with a water chiller, even with the best anti-freeze on the market.

Though it certainly has me wondering.

I don't think any of us need to worry about absolute zero or the quantum mechanical ramifications thereof. It's really, really hard to use a semiconductor-based data processor which depends on the movement of electrons at absolute zero or any temperature near it, since at those temperatures the electrons would not have enough energy to move through the gates and engage in many meaningful data processing.

well you must remember that several elements have strange properties when they approach 0ºK. for example, hydrogen's "solid" form is more a liquid metal, like mercury. there's also superconductors and the like. if someone had the resources to figure out how to make a cpu using some of those strange properties, computing as would know it would be vastly different ;)

but enough mad science rambling. on with the thread :p

it has been done with triple cascade waterchillers running 50/50 mix they get something like -120c coolant temp and -30c die temp anything colder than that you need direct evap (think vapochill but colder cooling a resevoir)

I believe there are many areas in space that are at absolute zero

Suprisingly few. Perfect vacuums are rare enough, and that's not exactly absolute zero particle motion, more like the complete absence of anything capable of having a temperature. Depends on how you look at it, I suppose.

I think I'll be getting a Venice as I've just had a look over in the X2 thread and seeing as how the lowest X2 proc will still cost anywhere from $450-$530+ I think i'm going to settle for a 3200+ or maybe a 3500+ Venice with a DFI NF3 AGP board and my Kingston Hyper X PC3200 BH-5 RAM and a XP-120.... Should be well fun... :)

nope...none, at least that we know of. We have not been able to reach absolute zero or found anywhere that is absolute zero that is why absolute zero is just a theory. Also why are we discussing absolute zero? -30c is NOWHERE near absolute zero...absolute zero is approximatly -273c or 0k and at that temperature (actually anywhere near) your cpu wont work infact even light should tecnically stop at absolute zero. Now that i mention that has anyone heard of a bose einstein condensate? it a newly discoverd state of matter (bose einstein condensate>solid>liquid>gas>plasma) anyway to make a boring chemistry discussion quick it slows light down to mear feet per sec pretty impressive

WOW that was O-T

well of course the idea isnt new hints the name bose einstein condensate...anyway that shit is mad cool if i remember correctly they got within millionths (or was it billionths) of a degree kelvin from absolute zero

yup, it's awesome. i'm having a lot of fun with the laser on that site (yes, i'm a dork and actually read it. hahaha)

I'm not sure if it was quite THAT close, but it was definately a small fraction of a degree away.

However, a big step was when Cornell and Wieman cooled a small sample of atoms down to only a few billionths (0.000,000,001) of a degree above Absolute Zero! That was what they needed to do to see Bose-Einstein condensation.

from the site i posted for the lazy among us ;)
