What's probably true for any MMO is that you don't play the game for the game's sake. You play it because it's a place to socialize with like-minded people while doing something you don't hate doing.
In GW2 the WvW (as pointless as it is in terms of character development) is probably what keeps most people who have played since day 1 engaged.
If you still like the game, then find a good server community and see whether you want to stick around that server. A number of servers have server forums of varying levels of activity set up. IIRC correctly Ehrmy Bay has the largest and most active forum followed by Jade Quarry and then Stormbluff Isle.
