The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

honestly i was being super hypocritical. I consider myself to be decent at Dota2 / Hon and I constantly yell at people. its a game that requires skill but also knowledge and most people are lacking in both departments. foreigners playing on american servers make me rage so hard dude... like why are russians playing here i dont understand. a game that is built around team play/communication and these people dont speak english. it drives me insane.

dota turns you into somebody else i swear.. im not like that way in person or in any other game but dota dude... turns me into a god damn monster hahahha

It really is true. I think the largest part of it is that I know I'm bad, but deep down I can't believe that I'm playing poorly, so it must be that other guys fault. It doesn't help that everybody below pro-tier makes obvious mistakes, and a lot of the pros do too. It is so easy to rationalize somebody as "bad" over things as simple as missing a last hit. NEWSFLASH: we all miss last hits, even pros. We didn't lose because faceless missed 3 last hits in lane. We lost because Tide wasn't carrying a TP (etc etc).

Okay that is way off topic but still.

yeah well its one thing to miss last hits. its another to sit and auto attack your lane the entire game lol.

But just a warning to all of you, arenanet has always treated the community like sesame street and if someone reports you, they won't hesitate to strike down on you.

and I thought this game couldn't get any better..and it just did

ok back to WVWVW...the blue team is kicking our butt and they need me..lol

Different, as in effective? I too bought in (literally) to the SWOTR hype... but GW2 is actually FUN to play.

idk i had a blast playing SWTOR for one playthrough.. and not for any MMO reasons it was basically a single player game with some multiplayer flashpoints.

was it worth the one month of sub fees i paid? fuck no. thats a game that should be f2p.

people arent really willing to pay subs any more anyways. i know a bunch of friends that wouldnt have played GW2 if there was a sub and GW2 is way better then SWTOR. so idk i like this model cause my friends will prolly still buy gems and shit with real money and the game will keep getting content with the shop in place

Basicly, this. I like the option of spending a little discretionary income on something useful, but not feel like I have to log in every day to get my moneys worth.

tonight? definitely. thats whats dope about level scaling :) I can do all the quests with you

Level scaling is the shit. I'm at work all day and my little brother just has a couple measly classes per semester so we usually don't play MMO's together because he blasts past me in levels. It's nice to scale down and still get an acceptable level of rewards and exp. Back in the old day it was just one of us powerleveling the other gouging our eyes out from the monotonous boredom and getting nothing out of it.

So after the little tutorial, when we're in the first zone with hearts, what happens after that, do we get to go to more 'mutual' zones with the other races? I feel like it'd be better if I finished the Asuran area, and then joined him in finishing up Human area, and from there, we both go to the next zone together.

Yeah you can go to any of the areas. Honestly if you do JUST your own racial area you will probably end up a little underleveled for the next tier zone. I played through the Norn 1-15 zone and was only 14 when I finished every quest and exploration on the map. Jumped over to the Human starting area and got another couple levels EASILY and moved on to the next tier of zones a little above the curve and it was much easier. It's nice that you have so many options to choose from while leveling up. You can literally pass so much content and still get to max level, but obviously you gain a lot more by going through as much of it as you can.

Oh well, that changes everything. I guess I can go to his zone with him, then we can come over and finish my zone. :)

Definitely. And if he hasn't set foot in your zone yet it's absolutely worth it to him to do so, if not only to pick up all the skill points in the zone, but to try to do all of the zone discovery. Get a nice fat treasure chest with loot and exp.

i think they expect you to do some crafting too. which will be a couple of levels as well.. make sure you buy your tools so that you can mine, salvage etc

btw there is a material bank people. a bank that holds all of your crafting mats that is seperate. right click mats and click deposit to clear up some bag space !!!

Where do you get the tools? Also can you deposit anything, or just mats? Can you grab the mats after depositing from anywhere in the world, or do you have to go to the bank itself?

Really, loot for walking around entire areas? Worth it?

idk somebody sent me the tool kit.. that comes with everything you need to start with like a pick axe etc. you can only deposit crafting mats from anywhere and you need to hit the bank to get them back

Ahh. Did you get a Hero's Signet or some shit, a ring with like, all the stats too in your mail? I wonder what I got it from. Randomly saw it in the mail.

Collector's Edition I think. Well at least I got that, a pet, and a 5 day bank robot.

As others said, you can go anywhere at any time. I had a little more time to play this weekend so yesterday I was level 17 and my friend was level 11. I had just finished the Norn starting area so I just jumped a few gates and met him in Divinity's Reach. The ease of partying up and jumping in with anyone in this game is amazing. The only thing they didn't include and I wish they had was a trade interface, but no worries.

I don't know if I like the fact that there is no click on area of the screen to move. It feels weird to target/attack characters using the arrows. I saw some area event near my location where like 20 something players were waiting to kill some Dredge people spawning and it was just some huge ass clusterfuck mob and very difficult to target anything at all.

its not really necessary to trade though, you can send mail instantly..

I had the 3 day code from computervalley or w/e, the thing someone posted on Friday. Not sure what version of the game that gave me then...don't recall getting a bank robot or a pet, so maybe it's the deluxe? Anyone that can clarify?

EDIT: Ok so apparently the Hero's Band is actually something you get if you pre-order ANY of the versions. At least that's what the internet says. :p

The controls feel extremely clunky to me, but I'm guessing that is because this is my first MMO ever. And the beginning areas are just ridiculously overfull right now, for obvious reasons. Hopefully that will improve in a few days past today's "official" launch.

Salvaging is a profession?

You can buy the tools to salvage, mine, chop, gather (double click all but salvage... click salvage then click on the item to destroy it and see what you get).

I bought the Digital Deluxe yesterday off Amazon and got last night. Had some fun... it's a mix of wow/WaR for me but enjoyable... I like the area events from Warhammer days.

My first time really trying a guild wars game so I'm just trying to figure out the basic controls... Some cool stuff... some confusing. Thanks for the info above about the mats deposit.. I'll try that... I guess I need to find the banks somewhere as well... haha... just level 6 and in the heart zone (whatever the nature/elf type people are).

Engineer is fun so far.

Question - the pre order special wolf summon ability... how do I activate that or is it something that I have to wait until level 30 for?

The full zone discovery rewards I've gotten thus far were a Masterwork (Green) piece of armor and maybe 1.5-2 events worth of exp. Definitely worth it, IMO. It's a great way to earn extra exp and rewards, and it's also a good way to make money. If you look at the economy breakdown you see that Rewards (dailies and map completion) make up a huge amount of potential gold earned.

Totally. There are fun areas that are not really outlined on the map. Misc caves and such. The Human city is a blast to explore as well. I could only imagine doing full scale PvP there!

the viewpoint things are tight too.. not to mention doing the skill point challenges. there is so much to do its amazing. i didnt know 100% exploration nets you more exp and an item... doing that today ffs

we do one dynamic event and another pops up and another.

ive only found one quest i didnt like and it was this one in the norn starting area you turn into a leopard and it was absolutely obnoxious hahaha plus the bar wasnt filling properly

You get 3 greens, 3 transmutation stones, and a load of exp/karma/money.

What's good is, running around and exploring is actually fun...so ZERO reason I won't be doing it. :)

I agree. I am not normally a completionist type person, but I have been having fun doing a few zones to 100%.

You can access your bank from the crafting stations too. So no annoying runs back and forth when you are doing a lot of crafting.

Anyone know if there are any wikis up for the game yet? Mostly interested in crafting-centric info. Really digging the crafting. I'm hitting up every resource node I see, in case I do start another character with a different profession(s).

Is there a way to deposit items directly to your bank from your bags. Hate running back and forth.
