COOL !!! bought and downloaded today...i get to be the rookie..lol

Note to people that want to play on the 25th. You have to actually PRE-PURCHASE the game, not just PRE-ORDER. It's an important distinction.

unless you buy on Amazon, the you can Pre-Order and play early.

or Pre-Order on Amazon, play all the betas, then cancel your Pre-Order with no penalty;)

either way works fine

I know it's in this thread somewhere, but there are just too many pages, to those who have actually played the beta:

Is GW2 worth getting for just the PvE content, or is it ultimately all about PvP?

There is a wealth of PvE content, but no "hardcore" raids. Much of the PvE endgame is about dynamic content events. I would say yes to it being a PvE game but the lack of "end game raids" ala WoW or EQ may turn many off from its PvE.

adding to this is a robust crafting system, auction house, instances that have 4 'difficulty modes', scaling down your lvl so you can go back to low lvl zones and have fun with new players/friends who start the game months from now, mini- games, armor/weapon skins to get, underwater combat/exploration

so basically, yes, there's plenty of 'pve' content

Right on all accounts, but what "4 difficulty modes" are you referring to?

I only know of two modes in-game: story mode that stays consistent with your level so difficulty is balanced, and explorable mode that's more difficult.

There are some mildy entertaining quests for leveling that show off the city. But as far as end game, no, its a PvP game despite a few instances they have thrown together. If you don't love that aspect you're getting the wrong game.

Here's a pretty good discussion about "end game": http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/ykkzy/what_is_endgame_to_you/

WoW players will typically interpret "end game" as "stuff to do when you hit max level" as opposed to just focusing on what makes a game fun to play.

People have completely forgotten the concept of playing a game because it's fun to play, because that is after all... the reason you play games right?

So no, the "end game" of GW2 is not about PvP. GW2 is not about any "end game". The game is played however you want in whatever way you find it fun.

Right on all accounts, but what "4 difficulty modes" are you referring to?

"The explorable dungeon story is told with fewer cutscenes and little exposition, and it is no longer directly related to Destiny's Edge. The player is presented with different play-through options, of which there are usually three to choose from. "

so each 'option' is the same in difficulty...i guess we can say that...i thought some were more difficult than others...i was wrong..thanks for the clarification

Considering it's the same price as a normal single player game and there are no monthly fees I don't see how it could not be 'worth' getting even if you just did the personal story and dynamic events.

exactly. and it looks like a game that might hold my attention for quite awhile

Yeah I read a a bit more about how the "leveling" works and what players can do along the way and it definitely sounds interesting. Not sure where exactly I read it but the guy basically said that there no longer is a "rush to the level cap" vs "grind gear at the level cap" divide. The game is entertaining from the first level on and there simply is no need to rush to the cap because pretty much everything that is at the cap is also available at lower levels. Looking forward to it.

I'll go out on a limb and say that this will be the biggest value in gaming since the orange box regarding content.

No problem, heh, you almost had me confused there for a second. I thought something was added that I missed, but yeah, there's just the two different modes.

The three different playthrough options are related to actually how you play through the actual dungeon.

Stress test is working now. Just a personal pet peeve but I wish they'd bring back the round map, not a fan of the appearance of the square one. Ah well, at this point, I'm guessing the square is here to stay. Also, it's annoying that the fps counter is embedded in the options menu and can only be viewed with the menu open. I liked it as in Guild Wars where it was in a tiny bubble in the corner of the screen that could be viewed at all times. Much easier to see how on-screen action could be impacting frame rate with the bubble than with the option menu open and covering up a quarter of the screen.

GASP!

theres a stress test?!?!

-_-" 12-4 are they trying to make me depressed

This statement is a bit confusing considering that just about every established mmo older than a couple years will offer more content for your dollar.

I'm all for liking a game but comments like this make no sense. From what I have seen there's a pretty obvious lack in content for an mmo.

I am still bothered by the fact that they went against the norm and opted against a mainstream mmo feature and added nothing to replace it. Then I read comments like this and just don't get it. Gw2 has less content to keep you busy than typical mmos do.

I'm not saying the lack of raiding is a bad thing, I'm saying raiding is missing and they added nothing to replace it so going on about gw2 and its about of content is ridiculous. It's not a contender for the most content for your dollar is damn near the lowest for your dollar these days.

Hmm.. the server I had picked for me and a bunch of my friends to play on is currently Full for the stress test. I thought you could choose it and then just go into an Overflow server, but for the initial server picking, it appears you are unable to pick a Full server. Hopefully on release night we'll all have time before it goes to Full, or might have to wait until early morning for it to just go down to High. This is the unofficial RP server too, so I don't want to just pick any ol' server.

WvW?

Yeah but they all make you pay $15 a month (or perfect world lifetime is like $200 or something). GW2 is a flat, one time fee of $60. For potentially years and years of content.

I mean, your average WoW player has at least $500 into the game by now...

Am I the only one who is having a tough time choosing a class for release? I've been playing a lot of guardian but I don't know if that's my cup of tea...

i decide and then i change again.. . half of my decision is aesthetics too so shit idk man back and forth hahaha

So battlegrounds but bigger? Making something that already exists on a larger scale is not the same as more content. It is in fact less in this case as some games offer more PVP options.

"they all make you pay" lolno, been hiding under a rock for the last 5 years? There are really only a handful of sub games left.

We live in an era of F2P MMOs, hell EQ alone kicks the everloving shit out of GW2 when it comes to value for content. Had GW2 come out 3 or 4 years ago that argument would make sense but saying that now just shows how out of touch you are.

Dont get me wrong it is looking like a great game, especially for me these days with the hours i work GW2 sounds perfect for me. Problem im having is the comments made by some of the fans is just brainless drooling in digital form.

Actually this statement is confusing. They have a lot of things added that replace raiding. There is high level gear that can only be obtained by doing different instances/farming/dynamic events around the whole world. You also gain skill points after level 80 that are used in these crazy hard recipes to make the gear. They have at least one zone that will have very large scale dynamic events that could take hours/days to complete and will take a massive effort of people to complete them. You can also go back and play any part of the game at any time without one shotting everything.

Now lets look at raiding. There is one instance every 4 months. For the first 2/3 weeks you are either dieing constantly or slowly progressing by learning the same bosses over and over again. You finally get it all down and can finish the whole raid in one day but you can only run it once a week. After you finish the raid for the week you just log in to run the same 20 daily quests over and over again in the same zones until the next raid instance comes out. Rinse and Repeat...Yea man, that sounds like way more content.

Btw, this is not even including any sort of sPvP or WvW.

So battlegrounds but bigger? Making something that already exists on a larger scale is not the same as more content. It is in fact less in this case as some games offer more PVP options.

But it has structured PvP and WvW (if you are unaware, this is three servers in one map). Seems like more content than the traditional battlegrounds other games have.

You are missing my point. They removed raiding and added nothing vs the competition. This game literally has nothing that other games dont besides WvWvW which is frankly just a big ass battleground.

Every "new" "innovative" feature is merely a spin on old shit thats been done before.

Content = shit to do. You can do structured or WvW, thats 2 things. Compared to the rest thats less than many out there. How do you think its more? The game with the "traditional" battlegrounds you mentioned also have 2v2 3v3 5v5 arenas, contested zones etc.

When you want to PVP in GW2 its WvW (when its going) or structured and thats it, compare those options to other games.

But then by your logic the only thing that could of possibly added in place of raiding is raiding.

The thing GW2 has that other games don't is the fact that there is no rush to max level. While I'm sure people will rush to max level, you don't feel obligated to. Look at any other MMO, if you take your time to level then by the time you reach max everyone already has set raid groups. It is harder to find groups to run the hard instances. You are either screwed and have to run PuGs or you are lucky and have a close group of friends that will let you join in under geared.

I can see why people that love raiding would be put off, but just saying it has less content is false.

GW2 has 5v5 PvP in 3 different maps at launch. While all the maps are based off a point capture each one is unique. One even has a keep lord that can be protected or killed. They also have a way to setup tournaments with many different teams.

WvW is not "just a big battleground" Show me any battleground on any other MMO that has 3 teams that fight over 50 or so different capture points. With upgradable castles and towers and NPC factions that can be bought or won to your side. With siege weapons that must be purchased and built using a team effort. Or a battleground that also takes place over 2 weeks in 4 persistent zones so it is always "going".

Are you waiting for someone to justify your purchase for you? If you feel there isn't much content, then don't purchase it (though it seems you've already made your mind up). Should have tried out a stress test or beta weekend event if you were on the fence. Don't understand the mentality of being so defensive when you're the one who asked the question, we were just trying to help you out.

For those of us who have bought the game, we obviously feel there is enough content to keep us busy for our money. I guess that's the best answer I can give you.

Honestly not impressed with the PVP in this game, coming from DOTA 2, it's a spam fest/button masher. Now i'm out $60. Fuck.

I'm using the stress test to help me pick 5 classes as well as which will be my first to play. Just when I think I got one nailed down I see something neat on another one and rush off to test it. So hard to decide.
