I bought the collectors edition from Gamestop. I figure the price isn't too bad for something I might be playing for years with no monthly fee.
Now does anyone know where to go to create an account and/or view the forums? I must be blind or my HP Touchpad doesn't display a link anywhere to either of those.
There is a whole thread in the forums about this issue over at guildwars2guru. Did you order the game online or go to the store? I have read that if you went to the store and purchased you can call and get your serial key for the beta. There is no word yet for the people who ordered th CE online from GameStop. I ended up canceling my order from GameStop and just bought the DD version.
Amazon said:Pre-order Bonus Offer
Pre-order Guild Wars 2 on PC and get 1-Day Head-start Access to create a Guild Wars 2 account early. The code to setup your Guild Wars 2 account early will be emailed a few days before the release of the game. Offer valid when shipped and sold by Amazon.com. Limit one per household. Amazon reserves the right to change or terminate this promotion at any time. Offer will be extended to all existing pre-orders.
What does this mean? You only get one day instead of three? Or do you get a fourth day and get to create your character an extra day early?
Pre-ordering gets you 1 day early access. Pre-purchasing gets you 3 days early access. Only certain retailers are allowed to pre-purchase and I don't know if amazon is one.
EDIT: Also, I don't think you get beta access with pre-orders either.
If you pre-purchase (pay in full), yes you will. Pre-orders do not include beta weekend event access. ~RB2
I think the main difference is that they do not want you "pre-ordering" just for beta access. For instance with TERA people would preorder for beta access knowing they could cancel.
I assume some retailers like Amazon are probably more insistent on allowing refunds to match their overall policy.
So now people will be spending a non refundable $60 and getting locked into game purchases that might suck, doh!
That part is pretty crappy. So now people will be spending a non refundable $60 and getting locked into game purchases that might suck, doh!
I've been following the game closely, watching hours of videos and reading many reviews. So for me it is an easy purchase. Even if I only play for 3 months I would get my $80 worth. I know that not everyone feels the same way about the game as me but you have to remember that the beta is not a demo. They could do what Blizzard does and only let certain people in randomly with no guaranteed access, but instead they are giving an incentive to their customers that know they are going to buy the game. I don't see a problem with that.
Actually, that makes sense. I wasn't sure how they would handle a million+ people in a beta weekend. I wouldn't imagine that they would have all of the servers set up by the first one.
Just to be on the safe side I went ahead and bought directly from them...
I have been waiting for this game for a long long time. I can't see me not liking it. Everything I did not like about the first one is being changed. And I loved the first one.
Only think I will miss is my heros.....![]()

I won't miss my heroes really, but I would love the option to import all of my minipets to GW2. I don't really care about the whole rewards thing they introduced with Eye of the North, I would much rather have my minipets than some random reward.
I don't see how it couldn't be refundable. If you get the beta key outside of the game, you should be able to return any physical copy once it is released even if this means picking up the copy and returning it later unopened. You have a reciept and an unopened game so I can't see a store turning down the return.
For real? I'm so excited about the HoM rewards in GW2! I can't wait to lord my GW1 status over all the kiddies looking for the next WoW'ie. I made it to rewards level 30 this weekend so I'm "Closer To The Stars" with a Black Widow spider!
I think I'm most excited for the ranger pets as I think they will stand out the most and I prefer Rangers (main toon in GW1).
Pre-order ....cancelled!!!!!!!![]()

Except, no one will care or be impressed or probably even notice.

When ever I paid for the game through GW website I got a full game key already, Plus it explicitly stated no refunds/returns.
Just pre-ordered at Gamestop because if I don't like the betas, then I can just get my money back. If not, everything works out just fine.
Aww sweet, looks like Gamestop is calling it a pre-order (so it can be cancelled) and still offering the pre-purchase benefits.
Read "What is Pre-Purchase?" and "What if I don't want to pay in full in advance?" here - http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/game-faq/#forty-threeI think you guys are misinforming people about pre ordering and getting beta access.
It says CLEARLY on gamefly that you get the beta access plus 3 day headstart.
Also that would COMPLETELY cut off any brick and motar stores, as people pre order games, they don't pre purchase them.
I think you guys are getting confused and the Amazon "1-day" thing is not correct and shoudl be updated.
I pre ordered from gamefly and already have the key .
Can someoen give me the link to where you register your code for beta? Cause it wasn't in my gamefly email or anything.

This is sort of confusing, because Gamestop calls it a pre-order, but lists the pre-purchase bonuses.
