The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

I played enough to unlock three extra character slots so I could try all the classes with just paying in game gold. Overall I just never really connected to any of the professions, they all feel relatively boring to me. I enjoy managing mana in other games and having access to lots of different skills even if the majority of them ended up being situational.

The game is gorges though so even for just exploring the world I felt like I got my moneys worth but gameplay wise it felt very shallow and nothing I did in dynamic events really mattered.

Pretty much my sentiments. I think it's a good game but the combat seems a bit off and I don't enjoy any of the professions. I'm usually a completionist and achievement whore and I have several Level 80's in full exotics but can't find a class I truly enjoy so I haven't logged on in weeks. I think I'll just stick to Dota 2 for my pvp fix.

Its like two old ladies bitching at a swap meet in here. Look the game isn't perfect, it does suffer from lack of end game, poor PvP and WvWvW, and static dynamic events. That isn't really debatable. Arena Net tried something different in regards to skills, armor, and dynamic events and for some it is the worst thing ever, for others they like it. I happen to like the skill system and enjoy the strategy it offers but I can understand why others don't like it.

The game isn't failing but it could be doing much better. Some simple tweaks to PvP, some fine tuning to crafting, add an actual end game and they'll fix many of the major complaints out there. Not having a monthly sub is a good thing as players aren't forced to feel committed to the game. Population can ebb and flow and still have a healthy game environment.

Typical response...

I work 60 hours a week and only wish i could game 24/7 and still think the amount of content is pathetic. Its not about it having less content than WoW it has less end game content than every single AAA MMO released in the last 5 years...

There is also a lack of skills. It was promised that it would be a strategic thing that required planning and it turned out that was bullshit. Its just not enough diversity in skills compared to other games.

Did u read that thread? it is about lack of content and skills. that is what people in that thread was saying.

Someone even pointed out one key thing ie for a casual user who does indeed work 60 works a week like u are mroe likely to be satisified with the amount of content it has already(taking close to 80-100 hours to reach max level in one char) whilst the people who play 24/7 will indeed want more stuff ie more content for them to explore and unlock.

My simple yet straightforward argument for this is the fact that the game is just 2-3months old. Games like Rift and Star wars and even WOW had next to no end game content when they was first released.

Also, ArenaNet has released new content during halloween for a week and now going to release more tomorrow evening.

Toss in the fact that they will release expansion packs in the future suggests that gw2 will have the necessary content to match the peoples needs for more content. You are just not going to get that on day 1 just like wow, eve etc etc.

About skills. it does require thought especially the util skills. you can unlock loads and use different combinations but during a battle u can only use 4 at a time and most of them have large cool downs so again u cant simple rinse out your elite or powerful skill.

Here is why i think the skill system is fine and challenging:

  1. Only 8 skills u can use at a time making u plan on what weapons, weapon combo and util skills u want to use for a given situation
  2. Each weapon type and weapons combo(main hand and offhand) offer a complete different set of skills
  3. Able to dynamically switch skill builds between two but has a slight cool down so cant abuse it
  4. Tons of util skills u can unlock
  5. Getting Trait points also adds special abilities to your skills ie a trait can increase our critical hit damage/chance

And that list just applies to just playing one character. Play another class and you will have a totaly different experience for example a thieft can use pistols but a warrior can use a shield, axe, axe and a sword? long sword etc etc the list goes on. the possibilities and variety in skills across all class is mind boggling and this is why IMO the skills system is brilliant.

I dont know if u ever played gw1 but that game offered less skill combinations then this game.
I think you have made your point pretty clear by now. You don't like this game, so move on?

Why do you feel the need to "correct" others who have a different opinion? jonneymendoza wasn't even quoting you, yet you feel the need to keep coming back here and argue.

This thread here isn't for people who hate the game to come in and complain about it again and again. Its here for other players to discuss about the game, keeping others updated about upcoming event and contents and so on.

Please respect that.;)

Well said.

im all for critisism but if the same people keep repeating themselfs and keep bashing the game and hoping it fails is annoying.

Like a wise man said, the people who hate something or has issues with something are the ones that generally make the loudest noise.

Now if any of the people who hate this game can actually show me a poll that covers every single account user of gw2 and shows that many who stopped playing, stopped because they do not enjoy this game, i will eat my hat off :)

Well said. People like to claim the sky is falling because Reddit, the official forums, etc are full of threads where people are complaining/whining and makes it seem like the overall population is pretty unhappy with the game. The truth is, I have not see a drop in activity on my server and based on server population (which was increased several times since launch) has remained stable for the most part. I still see queues for WvW and occasional overflow. The population on the server screen still says high/full for most servers. More importantly, I have no trouble finding groups for dungeons and having level 4 characters to max level, I still see activity throughout all the zones. Obviously, there's less activity in the middle zones since a lot of people have hit the level cap and don't feel the need to have multiple characters like I do.

This game is far from dead. The community is still there. The happy ones just prefer to spend that community time in game rather than justifying their satisfaction of the game with people that clearly don't like the game for one reason or another.

Even threads that start off with constructive criticism usually end up in a flame war between people that like the game with all of it's flaws and people that feel the flaws are game breaking to them.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My opinion is that GW2 may not be perfect, but the content support has been outstanding and it's still the best MMO currently available. I still find it fun and will continue to play. Play the game and decide for yourself.

Don't judge the health of a game based on what you see in forums. Until ANET publishes numbers like they did when 400,000 concurrent users were playing during launch week, any statements on the health of the game are pure speculation. Even what I stated above.

Excellent posts jonneymendoza and maverick777.

My server (Blackgate) has been full since launch. Except late at night, it's difficult to get into PvP. With the event this weekend, it will probably be crazy (crazy fun! ahahahahaaaa *ahem*). To relay just a small example of how insanely varied this game is, I just switched my warrior from being a greatsword glass cannon DPS to being hammer defense build. It's like playing a completely new game now, as I also switched my slot skills to being kicks/charge/stomp and other knock downs. On top of that I'm practically invincible with my new armor and now in PVP I just run into crowds of enemy players and juggle them while the ranged DPS lights them up. Also, working out combos with teammates is very satisfying when executed properly. It's a ton of fun. :)

I've mentioned it before, but anyone who doesn't think the game has enough skills simply lacks imagination. I had over 20 skills in SWTOR on my jedi sentinel, half of them one time/useless buffs/debuffs, but the combat with my warrior is just as dynamic if not more so.

Excellent. You're on Blackgate. I'm on Stormbluff Isle. See you on the battlefield. :p

Well this new GW2 patch blows. My primary damage dealing ability (Mesmer iBerserker) got stealth nerfed by 50% damage /facepalm

They nerfed some other stuff too, I am fine with the rest of the change. Hopefully the damage reduction is a bug.

Ummmmmmmmmm.... NO apparently you've never played GW1 if that's what you think.

Guild Wars 1 had over 150,000,000,000 more possible skill combinations than Guild Wars 2! I know some of those builds would be ridiculous but the amount of variety you were offered was staggering!

I read that and laughed pretty hard. Serious math fail but trying to have any form of discussion with some of these guys is impossible.

People still play this game?

:D

Maybe not me for much longer!

I am a really bitter place over ArenaNet swinging the nerf bat and making drastic class changes before addressing non-working skills and ridiculous things like typos. All while having essentially zero communication or even noting if some of the new "bugs" are working as intended or not.

This last patch feels like one of the old WoW patch where they went through and managed to break everything at the same time instead of making small changes and checking feedback and results.

The weekend content update is pretty good when it works. I have run a few dungeons finally and got a few orange pieces. My class, engineer, didn't change much, but some of the more OP classes got hit pretty good. I can now kill zerkers in pvp when I am on my game, as it should be...

Made this earlier tonight and decided to give it to my 4th 80 that I've been running FotM with.

I am surprised someone didn't post patch notes.

*hint hint* ;)

Edit: Nevermind, I found them. And I see why they haven't been posted: they're fucking huge!

I've played it loads mate.

That quiver is sweet.

Am I the only one that isn't too excited for the Lost Shores events :/

I tried to do two, both appeared to be bugged out or I had no idea what to do. Then I gave up with the whole thing.

Is this even only for lv 80?

I kind of burned out at lv 40 something and haven't played for a while but the new live events have my intrigued, but if it's only for lv 80's then meh.

I hate that about most mmorpgs, they seem to do everything for the "end lv" people and think "fuck the lower level people."

One of my friends did all of the Halloween content starting at level 22.

No, most of the events are in low zones like kessex hills and lower...

Fractal of the mists dungeon is pretty damn sweet. Love the puzzles in some of the dungeons. Better than just tank and spank or all out dps a boss fights that normally pop up.

how did you make that?

250 Vicious Claws, 50 Globs of Ectoplasm, 240 Philosopher's Stones and 1 of whatever the pink essence from FotM is called. I saw the recipe come up early yesterday so I made it before prices jumped.

I didn't get to play all that much yesterday and today but I got to level 5 without a single wipe and barely any deaths, even including doing a full level 5 clear with only 4 people. Other than the difficulty ramp, which seems incredibly tame so far, I really love the pacing of the fractals and the mechanics of most of the fights. It's a great change of pace from the other dungeons.

I played about 2 hours this weekend and I have to say the zones are beautiful! Very nicely done. I don't really like the controls though, they feel mushy. The world events are pretty cool but the quests are very wow like. I would probably buy the game at $15.

Well the all day event was fucking exhausting. So glad that's over with. Took about 3 hours of lag, and wipes, and more lag. Loot was decent, though. I got an Ebonheart, and a few other random things. Couple of people got Dawn, and The Colossus. I was pretty excited about the Ebonheart, until I saw what it sells for compared to the Dawn or other precursors.

Which made me realize, I don't have the time for this anymore. The game is just too massive for me. It will take forever to get 100g (which will probably inflate in time). I don't have time to endlessly grind dungeons for ectoplasms, or w/e. I've got 1 char to 80. one to 60, and 2 more to 45. I think I'm done for now. Just too much to do, for too little reward in too little time. I'm going to go play BL2 finally, where I can get massive amounts of rewarding loot for smaller time investment.

Why do you need 100G

What server is everyone on? Is there a [H] group? I will gladly move servers. Don't know anyone on my current.

Haven't you read the Borderlands 2 thread? You are going to have to put in a hell of alot of hours to get good loot in that game too. Guess I am what I am trying to say is if you don't have time for guildwars 2 then you don't have time for borderlands 2 :)

The event caused so many exotic drops, that prices on the broker dropped ALOT....I bought an entire exotic 'named' set for 8g...2 hours before the event, that same set was goin for 37g

I did the event and got a few nice exotics...the 20 slot account bound pack was very nice..the event itself was long and not fun whatsoever...massive amounts of being 2 shot and rezzing across half the zone...I never want to do that event again

oh well, back to wvwvw zerging

Got a survey from them asking for my experience. Suffice it say, the 1 day only event was a bomb and I probably gave them a dozen reasons why. The story was ok and Fractals of Mists was pretty damn fun and challenging, but the Sunday event was a complete buzzkill. Tedious, boring, repetitive, and the rewards were very sub par to say the least.

That one took less than two weeks, I am sure I can beat that pretty easily the second time around.

It's a Ranger. Tried Necro, didn't like how it played (I dislike any Necro that's radically different from EverQuest). How about Mesmer or Warrior? The Thief looks a bit too close to the Ranger.
