The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

I like GW2, a lot, but I haven't logged on in forever. Just haven't had the time honestly, and when Hitman hits next week, and then AC3, it'll get pushed back even further. I bet if I didn't take that week long break for the first time, I'd still be hopelessly addicted!

I hope to get some time next weekend during Thanksgiving to play it. Betting I'll get a few levels in.

Anyone from the first few threads still playing it?? Anyone in the [H] guild on Borlis Pass still active?

you are correct I didn't know anything about the game.
I guess you knew all about it when you started. LUCKY YOU
I played a necro 1-21 and felt that the spells/skills were not thought out very well.
NO I don't think that tying 3 skills to a weapon and then swopping those 3 for 3 different ones on another weapon is a good idea.
Why not give me 6 and let me choose which ones I want to use.
BUT that is why they nerfed every Fin'g build I had in GW1 ( yea I played it and 2 expansions) and every time you found something that worked they nerfed it.
SO I played GW1 even if you said I didn't and I knew nothing about it.
And this is NOT GW1 where you had skills and spells and you could only choose 8.
here you can only choose weapons with pre assigned skills/spells which sucks even worse than the 8 limit from 1.

Get off your high horse and thing for yourself and if you don't like what I post don't read it.
Simple as that.

1-21 is 2 hours of gametime, you passed judgement on the first 2 hours of gametime?!

You can choose your 2 weapons with their 5 skills each, and then you have your various healing skills that change your build completely, then 3 utility skill slots which you can add one of 20? skills to, then your elite skill which there are about 7 or so skills to pick from.

That's quite a lot of options for builds my friend.

Also structure your post better and have some valid points, right now you sound like a 14 year hermit that's been living in a basement with a lack of social interaction. No one's going to give you any respect or even read your post if you don't bother putting any effort into them.

If you visit the GW2guru forums which is one of the larger GW forums on the net, you'll see lots of thread with people very concerned about how long this game is going to last due to the number of people that have already stopped playing. There are lots of good posts detailing the issues with this game and how they really dropped the ball compared to the first GW game. Lots of guilds are seeing HUGE drops in active players and the game has only been out two months which is not a good sign at all. Some went from having as many as 100+ active players in their guild to just 8-10.

This is what i have seen as well but the typical fanboy death cycle is still going.

Step One, Deny, "No the population is not falling people are lying."
Step Two, Discredit, "Oh that metric you used is inaccurate the servers are doing great."
Step Three, Admit, "Yeah our server lost a few i suppose."
Step Four, Explain, "Its perfectly normal and healthy for a game to lose 2/3 of its population, the game will be fine!"
Step Five, Accept, "Yeah they really dropped the ball on update x.xx my guild is now dead."
Step Six, Quit, "Yeah it had so much potential but its ruined so i quit."
Step Seven, Repeat, "OMG you guys have you seen this new game coming out, it will be so much different and better than the rest with all these new unique ideas"

I still play, but I can't help but accept that I just don't have the same excitment that I had in GW1. Some days at work, I think I would like to go home and play some, then I get home and find other things to do. That never happened with GW1 and certainly not after only 2 months. I played GW1 almost every day religiously for the first 3 years or so, and even then a few days per week for the next 2 years after that. I only dropped off from playing much in the the 6th and 7th year.

I'm not bashing you because you replied to someone elses post, but certainly you didn't play the original GW because if you did you would realize that the skill system in GW2 is a fraction of what it was in GW. Between the dual classes and being able to choose any 8 skills of your choice out of a selection of hundreds, you certainly can't say that GW2 gives you as many build options as GW, it just doesn't, not even close in comparison.

The rumor is that Anet designed the current skill system to make it easier on them to balance skills which they really struggled with in the first game betwen PvE and PVP, but in the process they really dumbed down the skill system to the point of unoriginal boredom. Basically I'm stuck with the same 5 attack skills from level 1 to level 80 as long as I use the same weapon which is on average 80 hours of gameplay looking at the same 5 attack skill animations, and the only way I can get any variety is to change weapons to something that is probably less effective so I'm forced to become a less effective player to break the monotony of using the same 5 attack skills. This was simply laziness on Anet's part and lacks any originality and fun that the first GW offered. This is just one of many reasons people are dropping this game so quickly. Boredom.

I'm not bashing the game or being a "hater", I'm just very dissapointed with GW2 and the lack of originality and fun that the first game offered. Its painfully obvious at this point that the longevity of this game is in jeopardy. I feel like I got my money's worth already but just saddened that this game doesn't offer even 1/5 the replay value of the original game which I dearly loved. I'm having to come to terms with the fact that no game may hold my interest like the original GW and I'm dissapointed that the team that crafted the first game somewhere decided to go in a completely different direction, thus abondoning a game concept that they had previously done very well and for all their efforts in trying to make a better game has resulted in a game that isn't fit to carry the original GW's jock strap.

We were talking about this earlier in the thread, however they could really use some alternate weapons. This shouldn't be hard to implement at all, considering I can already pickup quest weapons and such that are completely different than anything the class normally has.

Plus I would love to switch from one Greatsword to ANOTHER Greatsword with a different move set.

The thing is now more than ever there are a ton of great games available and the competition in the market has never been higher. You have a generation of completely jaded gamers with tons of options and with GW2 there aren't things like subscription fees that keep them "needing" to play. The clearest indicator of the former is that there are few legitimate or well thought out arguments for why GW2 "needs improvement." In the end it comes down to people stating "I don't like it." I've mentioned before the amazing dichotomy present in many of these rants/arguments about GW2; essentially people want a game that's completely customized to them and extols them as the savior as the world, with however much/little time they put in, and no one else, but also want a rich and deep multiplayer social experience. It doesn't work that way, you have one or the other.

Also, GW2 will always suffer from "sequel scrutiny" simply because it isn't the warm and cuddly nostalgia-filled GW1 from days of old. Again, couple in the fact that this isn't WoW where people have been addicted for years and can't break the hold on their lives.

GW2 is an amazing game, it's bigger, more accessible, and more open. That means there's a steep "enjoyment" curve where the theme park part ends and the end game begins. Some people like gear treadmills for endgame so they're adding that. In the end, with so much competition on the field and no subscription fee, players are just going to cycle through, especially for events.

There are plenty of threads on the GW2Guru forums with suggestions on how the game could be improved, you're just not going to see them here on this forum. There are complaints and suggestions so it goes both ways. Either way, its painfully obvious this game has let down a LOT of people and I'm afraid to say its too late to fix it because the game design itself seems to be the root of most of the problems and that's just not something that can be easily fixed with a patch, if at all. Anet chose to go in a different direction with this game and I think its proving to be a mistake, time will tell but I'll go ahead and go on record now and say its going to flop inside of a year. Its my opinion, but I feel strongly about it at this point.

I had a bad feeling when one or two of the lead developers for the original GW team left the GW 2 project only a few months from release. These were key people that had everything to do with the design of the first game. I don't know why they left, but my speculation would be that they didn't like the direction this game was going, and maybe they were being forced to develop a game that they didn't feel would work.

Sorry but this game hasnt let many people down. The people who are still enjoying this game are silent and dont bother posting and just play and enjoy the game like me who hardly posts in this thread that i created.

No one is saying this game is perfect. what game is? but most of the peoples reasons as to why this game is not good is completely irrelivent giving the impression that

1, They are playing the game wrong and expecting a WOW clone
2. They play one class for a couple of hours and decided thats enough, its crap without actually making full use of this game
3. That people actually have not played it and just picked random stuff about the game and turned it into a negetive opinion(this game sucks, it only has 8 skills!!!)"

I have not read many legitament deal breaking issues in this game.

If you can name me some then i am all ears.

OK, Coolio.

Well why dont u post the major issues with this game then?

no content?
poor level design?
game breaking bugs?
no variety in combat?
no originality?
poor graphics?
poor sound?
poor animations?
poor classes?
poor skills?

what is it then?

Dude, have you read any of this thread? I've posted numerous issues throughout this thread. I know this thread is long now but I've written a lot about its issues and many others have also. I shouldn't have to reiterate it again now just to satisfy you. No offense, but there's plenty of info here already in this thread and there's a LOT more on the GW2Guru forums which I've already stated. It sounds like you really don't care that the game has issues or maybe they just don't bother you because you don't know any better, that's fine, just don't tell me I'm hallucinating.

You are Hallucinating my friend :)

But yes this is a large thread and i do have a life and dont spend hours reading this thread from top to bottom looking for issues.

i have read some of the issues here already and most folks issues are that lack of end game content(now being sorted with world events happening every month and one event this weekend offering a new dungeon to do as well) and how the skills combinations in this game is lacklust dispite each weapon containing a whole list of new skillsets, the fact u can combined weapons together(dagger plus a pistol), can dynamically change weapon sets plus u have all the util skills u can unlock using skill points etc etc and that is all for just one class.

Make another char with another class and a whole new set of skill combinations are opened to u.

So again what issues then have u discovered?

Lol this is getting to be worse than that Secret World thread. I'm all with you Blkout, been following this thread from the beginning and understand your concerns and issues. Anyone else who doesn't see them is living in la-la land, or just plain doesn't care, and plays games outright without a care in the world. Not a bad thing, but it's a pain when trying to explain to someone the flaws.

I'm really not trying to bash the game, I wanted to love it so much. I had been eagerly waiting for GW 2 for years since it was announced. But now that I've had 2 months to play it, I feel less and less interested already and that's just not a good sign. I love the free to play business model and whole heartedly support games with that business model and I can pick-up GW 2 any time I want and play it but that doesn't change the fact that I feel after only 2 months the way I felt after the original GW after 3-4 years. Sure I could say, well that's just my issue but after spending a good bit of time on the GW 2 forums, I'm finding that I'm not alone at all, there are far more people that feel the same way than I ever would have expected at this point in the game life cycle. I'm not ranting or bashing, what you hear from me is dissapointment and frustration. I was very passionate about the first game and it just feels like the series is almost dead now, even with this new game to play which is a tough pill for me to swallow.

I LOVE THIS GAME, and im only level 5 haha :D I love how you are encouraged to explore (i hope they dont implement flying mounts...) you need to walk everywhere, climb up hills and try to find vantage points! its amazing, i explore every cave i see. I love the PVP in the game, and how the actions are totally customizable. and WvW is awesome! I'm hooked.

No but I didn't start off with a lvl 35 guardian trying to do a dungeon.

I played a necro 1-21 and felt that the spells/skills were not thought out very well.

fair enough. I somewhat agree with it but it is their game design and I adapted. I actually like it, especially on the thief. It provides interesting builds and tactics.

SO I played GW1 even if you said I didn't and I knew nothing about it.
never said you didn't.

Get off your high horse and thing for yourself and if you don't like what I post don't read it.
Simple as that.
Stop being a spas and take some constructive criticism.

I felt that way too, and who knows, maybe you'll feel that way right up until 80. Have fun with it, I wish I had more time to play!

Great man, I think many of us here were the same way early-on. I really do hope it continues to amaze you for years to come. The game is huge and there is a LOT to see and even though I have one level 80 character and almost 250 hours of gameplay between my 8 characters, I've only explored 40% of the game.

Honestly I feel this way with every game now. I think it is just burnout. If Blizzard released WoW 2 tomorrow I can almost guarantee people would be bitching about it 3 months from release. I haven't finished a game ina long time. I start them and get bored halfway through. No stories, no lore, no attachment to my character, and the laundry list goes on. I still haven't finished Skyrim and that is an amazing game. I just get bored. GW 2 is similar but I only play it a few hours a week so I'm not burnt out on it yet. I still love exploring, love the story line, and enjoy the combat. I just have no desire to log in every night like I used to back when I was younger. All of my friends are in the same boat and the amount of bitching on game forums seem to echo those sentiments. People are looking for the fun they used to have but just aren't finding it anymore. At least that is my humble opinion on the matter.

Haha. I'm level 58 and I've got 61% of the world explored. That is all I do most of the time I log in.

Yea, the world is huge, I was more interested in finishing the story than anything else. Everything else I did was just to get to level 80 so I could finish the story. Not that the story was anything to brag about, it wasn't really all that interesting, it was just a goal of mine.

I liked doing an entire zone before going to the story portion, was always an OCD like schedule with me. Man I really want to play again...

Were you on Borlis Blk?

It sounds like u are, You have not stated why its not fun for you anymore.

no plausable reasons why whether its opinions or factual reasons, you have not stated what is seriously wrong with this game.

Im all for critisism. no game is perfect, no one here is saying that but all i want to know is what is seriouslly wrong with this game that makes u and some others hate it or not enjoy it?

Why does something have to be "seriously wrong" with it? I felt that the game was extremely boring. It's your standard theme-park MMO setup, environment, and gameplay with a few small changes. There's nothing wrong with it but there's also nothing there that really makes it any more fun than any other MMO IMO. It's still just a random number generator underneath a 3rd person RPG skin, skill cooldowns, a mostly static world, mobs with no real AI, etc.

There are a few in here (myself included) that will say that it's a fine game but it just didn't draw them in like they thought it would. All of the friends that I started with have now quit so it's not like it's an uncommon attitude.

Ok first of all why did u bother trying this game knowing that with the heaps and heaps of information, videos etc, you could have digested all of this and found out that this is a umm MMO game.

It is clear to me that you do not like MMO games as a whole. that is fine. there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

now does that make this a bad game? a failure?

In your eyes maybe but as a whole? no. why no? Well let me put it this way.

I hate RTS games in general. Does that mean every single RTS game ie supreme commander( a highly rated highly regarded RTS game) is shit?

Yes it may be shit to me but thats my own doing, it doesnt mean supreme commander is a shit game, its just a type of game that I do not like, Just like u, You dont liek MMO. you have now made that clear as daylight. Absoluetly nothing wrong with that.

Now lets go back in time on my posts and what i asked. I ASKED specifically what flaws? issues? game brekaing bugs? are there?

You i believed did not give me any straight answer. i gave u some examples of what you may dislike(combat? game world? lack of abilities? poor graphics?) That is what i am after but now i understand you. You simply do not like this "Type" of game.

What i personally want to know is what is wrong with this game from users who enjoy this type of game. i do not personally want to hear what people like u have to say because as i have stated in this post, your views and opinions are relivent due to the fact you do not even like this genra and thats fine.

i would not want this game to turn into skyrim or the witcher. this is a different type of game. You seem to fail to understand that. To understand what this type of game is all about. To grasp the concept of what this game wants to achieve instead of expecting something completely different. completely out of context, completlet out of genra.

If you wish to play some sort of rpg game with great AI and a huge world to explore etc etc, there are games designed for your needs. why are u expecting this game aimed at a different croud, a different genra, a different topic to please u?

I go back to RTS genra. its like me expecting supreme commander to be like Battlefield 3. sorry but dont u think thats stupid for me to think that of supreme commander and for u to think gw2 is some kind of witcher/skyrim game?

Did u not do ANY research about this game?

It looks like you need to take your meds.

I do like MMOs although I now question how much due to the turn they've taken over the past few years. I bought it because I fell for the hype and my friends' love of the game during the beta weekends.

What I said is that it hasn't improved the MMO at all and because of that it's no more enjoyable than any other MMO. GW2 was just like TOR to me; boring due to the casual play changes that have crept into every other MMO. It doesn't feel like it's own game it feels just like Cataclysm/TOR/Rift/Tera/etc.

Anyone that knows anything about RTSes knows that TA is the only one that matters.

Check planetside 2. if that doesnt tickle your fancy then i think u might as well give up on MMO as a whole lol

I'm waiting for my beta invite. I'll just keep going back to Pre-BC WoW when the need to play an MMO strikes me as it actually feels like something new and different now.

If you don't like the game it's your fault. If you don't like the game you must express in great detail exactly why. If you don't like the game you're crazy. If you don't like it you're just telling. If you don't like the game you're just a bad player.

This is what I have gathered from the last couple pages...

This rampant fanboy mentality is bullshit. The population is tanking and there's a reason. It's a generic theme park MMO that brings nothing truly unique the the genre. It was promised not to be a fear grind but just as the most dedicated player base is getting decked out in exotic here comes better great to attain. The end game is lame with nothing to do but a couple new dungeons. It's grindy as shit with no reward for all that grind.

The game is boring as shit. Like I said before in every MMO you hit level cap and then the game starts in this one you hit level cap and it's game over reroll.

I don't think it matters if it tanks after 3 months. people will still come back to it because it's free to play. no sub handcuffs :)

If you don't like the game it's your fault. If you don't like the game you must express in great detail exactly why. If you don't like the game you're crazy. If you don't like it you're just telling. If you don't like the game you're just a bad player.

How about, if you don't like it...you ....umm...don't like it.

As far as it being grindy...I dunno what that means.....if grindy means playing the game, then, I guess it's grindy.

i've read it and some of the comments are bizare and as i mentioned before, springs into two main things

lack of end game content for hardcore players who play games 24/ and expect same amount of content as a 8 year old MMO and lack of skills, not understanding how each weapon and each weapon combo has different skills and how u can choose 4 util skills

It's impossible to have opinions on this forum. We can leave it at that...

Jk we can't, because that's my opinion.

Typical response...

I work 60 hours a week and only wish i could game 24/7 and still think the amount of content is pathetic. Its not about it having less content than WoW it has less end game content than every single AAA MMO released in the last 5 years...

There is also a lack of skills. It was promised that it would be a strategic thing that required planning and it turned out that was bullshit. Its just not enough diversity in skills compared to other games.

That works both ways. If you like it you get an opinion, if you dont you're supposed to shut up and go away...

Grindy = doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over endlessly... This game is that in a nutshell.

I played enough to unlock three extra character slots so I could try all the classes with just paying in game gold. Overall I just never really connected to any of the professions, they all feel relatively boring to me. I enjoy managing mana in other games and having access to lots of different skills even if the majority of them ended up being situational.

The game is gorges though so even for just exploring the world I felt like I got my moneys worth but gameplay wise it felt very shallow and nothing I did in dynamic events really mattered.

I think you have made your point pretty clear by now. You don't like this game, so move on?

Why do you feel the need to "correct" others who have a different opinion? jonneymendoza wasn't even quoting you, yet you feel the need to keep coming back here and argue.

This thread here isn't for people who hate the game to come in and complain about it again and again. Its here for other players to discuss about the game, keeping others updated about upcoming event and contents and so on.

Please respect that.;)
