The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

Blkout, I want you to define "veteran GW1" player for me :D I just want to see if I meet the requirements:

1. Has at least 6 characters on account at lvl 20.
2. Has been on a team that has cleared domain of anguish in 35 min or less (DoASC)
3. Has been on a team that has cleared the Deep in 15 min.
4. Has been on a team that has cleared the Underworld in less than 35min. (After the Dhumm update)
5. Has at least 30pts in HoM.
6. Has pugged FoW more times than he can count.

If I fit the mold of a veteran GW1 player, i would like to provide my opinions on GW2, from the perspective of another GW1 veteran player (me).

I cannot put the game down. Literally. I'm trying to get my "Legendary Weapon" achievement and I'm staring at Foefire's Essence and Sunrise from a far distance. One day they will be mine. I have 3 lvl 80 characters (Guardian, Thief, and Mesmer) that offer various playstyles in between playing them, and I equally enjoy running all of them in dungeons, WvW, and farming (thief mostly for farming since they have 25% permanenet speed boost with Signet of Shadows). Each of them are decked out in full exotic gear that I have crafted/mystic forged and partially farmed matertials myself (I am lvl 400 in Armorsmith/Leatherworks/Tailor/Jewelry/Artificer/Chef...weaponsmith and huntsman are next). I craft stuff for my guild for free, which is pretty cool actually.

Aside from the fact that I dislike WvW because it comes down to how many people can overwhelm the other(only reason I go there is to get my monthly achievement)..I love this game. :D The Halloween update...bleh...it's ok, but I look forward to more updates for GW2 content. I'll be here for a while. There is so much to do in this game it's downright overwhelming. I'm in a guild of about 25-30 people that are active on Teamspeak on average,.....every day. Some peeps like to do WvW/PvP...some like to explore for that 100% explorer or see the scenery...some like to lvl up and gear out and theorycraft builds....some would like to group up and start new toons. I participate in almost every one of these aspects in my guild (except for PvP...I would like to get my mesmer in there :D )

If you want to, you can get immersed in this game. But if you don't like it...well, I guess you don't like it. I can't force you to like it. I'm not going to even try. :) All I know is that I'm enjoying almost every minute of it, no matter what I'm doing in the game.

There are 2 immediate downsides to the game that I dislike and that is WvW zerg aspect which is simply overwhelming the other teams and ...of course...bots. They run rampant, and I don't know why Anet hasn't addressed this issue on a grand scale. It messes up my farming on cursed shore since they changed the AI of the mobs that spawn there and aggro everything, slowing down my farming process of ecto. But other than that, the game is simply the best game I have ever played....ever. Who knows maybe my feelings will change about it in the future, but that is how I feel about the game now.

I have all of your criteria and more in some ways, I actually have 8 level 20's, I have two different GW accounts because I got in before they offered additonal characters slots and I wanted one of every profession so I had to have two accounts each with 4 slots to play all of the professions. Later they allowed you to purchase additional character slots but it was too late, I already had too much invested in my two accounts and 8 characters. I also have two copies of each of the expansions, Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North because I had to have one for each account to continue to playing those characters and capping new elites since Anet didn't allow merging of accounts. So I had a few hundred dollars ties up in my GW accounts between all the expansions. I have numerous sets of FoW armor, and 30 points in my HoM. I didn't bother going any further than 30 points as titles weren't really worth it to me. I've played all of the elite dungeons and completed them but I don't remember if I completed them in those time limits.

I'e already expressed my concerns about what makes it boring to me. they took out all the things that made the original fun.

So here's a quote from one of my previous posts:

I think the level caps are too high but that's really more of a time issue. For those people that can drop 3 or 4 hours per day in the game, it probably doesn't seem like an issue to them, it is for me though. And yes, the game is boring me, I really miss the ability to dual class which opened up a lot of playstyle options, I also miss the standard skill bar that wasn't tied to my weapons, I much preferred the choice of picking my skills for my skill bar from the hundreds that were available. I miss capturing elite skills, that was a great motivator to keep playing for the thrill of capping all of them, which I did. Now we only get a few elites per character and you don't even have to do anything special to get them, just need the skill points which comes in time. I miss tracking down the bosses that had the elite skills and capping them. The trait system is in some ways a replacement for the old skill system because you have lots of traits to choose from, however the problem is that you still have the same main 5 skills which honestly just gets boring to look at after a hundred plus hours of playing but I can't change my main 5 skills without changing weapons to something that I might not want to use.

Go back and read some of my original posts in this thread in the earlier pages and you'll see I was defending this game quite a bit and enjoying myself a good bit in the first few weeks, but what you're reading now is my current stae of mind on the game and I'm very unhappy that it has almost completely lost my interest inside of two months.

1. I wasn't asking you to provide your credentials in GW1:X, I just wanted you to define a "Veteran GW1" player based on my credentials. So, I'll take your response as "Yes, that qualifies you as a veteran GW1 player." :)

2. I'm not going to go back and read every single post you posted in this thread. Sorry :) Frankly, it doesn't matte to me becauuussseeee....

3. I'm not trying to convince you to get back into the game. I'm just posting my experience after playing +500 hours of the game across 3 lvl 80 characters (and 2 alts that will get to 80 eventually).

Didn't mean for you to take it that way. Glad you're still having fun with it.

Personally, GW2 was getting very stale, PvE was predictable, the skills felt like a downgrade compared to GW1, and I had made enough money trading to do whatever I wanted. That was until I hopped onto WvWvW. Those matches have been absolutely awesome.

I could do with less zerg, but I also think that is down to the whole game being relatively new. In a few months time it would not surprise me to have groups that have very well executed and disciplined plans of attack. My server (Ehmry Bay) is getting there but too many people don't think of tactics and just mindlessly run with the zerg. I have literally watched a group of them run right off a cliff that was not survivable. I have also watched in amazement as a group of 15-20 of us fought off a zerg swarm that was 3 times our size with multiple siege golems... it was an absolutely epic battle. I originally never intended to do WvWvW but it is easily one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences I have had in GW2.

I'm on anvil rock and we try to capture keeps and supply depots and it almost feels like the 2 worlds gang up on us sometimes.... in fact I have seen it happen before :x after death I keep an eye on and sure enough 2 teams sandwiched us and didn't attack each other.

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/info/news/FOV-Field-of-View-Changes-Beta-Test

avnet has a FOV change you can test out...I love it

We’re ready to beta test a change to our FOV (Field of View) that should provide a better experience for those with widescreen monitors. We want your feedback about the change to help us decide whether to deploy it to all players.

To help test, you’ll need to add a special command line to your GW2 client’s shortcut. Here’s how:

1) Create a shortcut to your GW2 client (right-click -> “Create Shortcut”)
2) Right-click the GW2 client shortcut
3) Click “Properties”
4) Locate text field labeled “Target.”
It should contain the file path of your shortcut, and will look something like this:C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe
5) Type -testVerticalFov at the end of the Target line
Be sure to include a space between .exe and -test.
The line should look like this: C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe -testVerticalFov
Please note that your Target line may or may not have quotation marks. If it does have quotation marks, this tag should go outside of them. So it will look like this:
“C:\Games\Gw2\Gw2.exe” -testVerticalFov
6) Once the command line has been added, click Apply -> OK.
7) That’s it! Jump in and play with this new setting, and post your feedback in the following thread: https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/for...es-Beta-Test-Feedback-Thread/first#post551648

If at any time you want to return to the old FOV, simply remove the –testVerticalFov from your target line and it’ll return to normal.

I like the new FoV change but I feel like the hit detection is off a bit now. It seems like my character is swinging at air sometimes, even gap closing skills where my Guardian leaps to the target, sometimes he's just off and lands a few feet away. It might not be due to the FoV change but something seemed strange today.

Unrelated to FOV change, the hit detection is something I definitely think can be improved. In WvWvW the gates are probably one of the most egregious examples. If you are repairing a gate from the back, you will get hit by melee attacks on the other side of the gate. Also, you can sit in your keep and catapult your side of the gate to kill attackers on the other side without any damage to your door. It is so bad now that it is easier as the attacker to setup catapults and take down a wall/gate from range rather than attack directly.

Anvil Rock had a tough draw last week. Any team avoiding the other was probably due to commanders not wanting to risk engaging in a 2v1. After all, it only takes a quick message between guild commanders to get a zerg together to relieve the post in trouble.

On a side note, the WvWvW reset this week is going to be interesting for us. Northern Shiverpeaks, Sorrows Furnace, and Ehmry Bay.

Everyone must be playing the Hell out of the Halloween content. Every zone I go in to is mostly dead since the Halloween content hit. Hardly no one to be found. It sucks when there are so many champions and bosses waiting to be killed and I can't solo them and there's no one around to try it with me. Just another feeling of loneliness in this game.

On a brighter note, I manged to get my Guardian from level 58 to 73 over the last 5 days. Only a few more levels to 80 and then I can get back to my Ranger and bring him up from level 32.

Yeah, I guess most are either still trying the clock tower jump quest, farming mad king labyrinth or the mad king group event.

I've finally clear the clock tower after 2 days of jumping, lol. Now on to carving pumpkins and farming labyrinth

I there anything worth getting to be gained from this event? The weapon skins from the BL chests are ok, but what about the events, any original gifts or rewards that will be unique to this Halloween that can't be gotten again? I've seen that silly flaming backpack some people have, I have no desire to get that.

Well there's the Mad King armor set with real stats (not the mad king skins)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mad_King%27s_armor

Completing the jump quest guarantees you a mad king slippers, the rest are obtained through the labyrinth chest which can only be opened once a day so its really down to luck.

I think the mad king group event at Lion's Arch have a chance of dropping those armor too, I'm not sure as I did not take part in it yet.

There rest are just for achievement completion, the pumpkin carving all.

Edit: I'm not sure if the rune can be crafted after the event. But I believe at the moment they can be crafted.

All Mad King armor pieces can be farmed off the group event that debuted on Sunday. It's been comfirmed, albeit your odds are slim. Some have farmed it 20 times in a day without receiving anything. However, you have about a 1/5 chance at recieving an exotic from the chest. The only diminishing returns are the rewards you get after killing the King, not from the chest itself.

Some guys in lions arch said to report me in the bank for spaming emotes. Now I will be suspended for another 52 hours and because there is nothing I can do about it and miss my last achievement for holloween.

I am going to sell my accounts for both games because I am sick of how retarded this game suspension system works. I will post with my ebay listing in a couple days if you want the achievements for linked guild wars accounts.

A) Ebay will just pull the auction.

B) you'll get in trouble here.

C) f2p game accounts are not worth shit.

Who in the hell would buy a FtP game account?

The accounts are non transferable the best solution is to ask them for a refund by describing to them the issue I have with the game. They would ban the account sooner or later if I did because they are cock suckers.

Make sure you stomp your feet and throw things on the way out, that'll show them. Honestly, the community won't miss players like you.

I will list the games on ebay without the serial codes with a description why and then I will make a federal case out of it. Because I cant tolerate a game that has placed an assault preventing me to participate in a holiday event.

When I made that post I was thinking of those others that have banned accounts might want mine but what was I thinking those banned accounts are from people like me thinking the account could be given to someone else rather than a relative.

Believe me that I am angry that I cannot participate in the Holloween event today. The little fact that the suspension on my account ends when the event ends November 1st.

I dont like this game anymore mainly the support community of all things. The game includes features to block someone yet there are ingrates that have to report you for things like this to happen.

Thats right take that big baby fit to the next level. Take that shit all the way to the supreme court!

So uh, why was Blkout banned from the forum? That's the REAL question haha. Maybe I'm the only one that noticed.

I went through his last few posts, didn't see anything at all that would normally deserve a ban :(, not sure what happened.

Idk, seen it happen to a few people and no history of it that I found. W/e. Not our problem, meh. :p

Back on topic. How's everyone liking the Halloween stuff?

I think they delete the last post or the offending posts. He probably got snarkey and insulted someone.

However, as far as the game goes I'm loving the Halloween content

I'm pretty sure no holiday event in any game can stand up to the clock tower jumping puzzle. It took me a good 17 minutes to master and I've gone back and done it on all 5 of my toons.

Halloween event is by far the most unique experience I've had in some time. No subscription game giving this type of stuff to players? Yes please!

Haha I gave up on it in about 10 minutes. I actually really enjoy the jumping puzzles in general, but I hated it being essentially against the clock, just not for me.

Apart from that I've paid pretty much no attention to the holiday stuff. I did the Memoires once just to see what it was about, but it was mostly about teleporting (or running) from one place to another over and over again.

The jumping puzzle was hell for my Nord warrior, gave up after an hour and failing the 1st jump repeatedly. I've been working, so I've missed the other events. What's the big finale?

I really enjoyed the Halloween event. Spend about $20 on gems to get the mad king's costume and extra bank slots for the halloween stuffs :p I really love the jumping puzzle too, which is strange considering that I've never liked the other jumping puzzles and this one is even more challenging. Took me 2 days to finally got to the top but I love it.

The finale is on, just a quest at Lion's Arch grand plaza, where every 40-60mins, Mad King will appear and you could play the "Mad King says..." event where he will tell you what to do and you need to do using the /action thing. Upon completion, there will be a chest containing a witch hat.

It will be up till noon server time, then the event ends.

Probably one of the best events in any game I've experienced. I raged so bad at the clock tower but finally got it after a couple hours. Picked up my title last night and was also able to grab a greatsaw skin. Here's to hoping the skins sky rocket after the event!

I've repeated the clock tower atleast 10 times on all my characters. not bragging, its a BITCH at first. but once you complete it once, everything is muscle memory. took me 3 hours to get it the first time.

it is the quickest way of farming trick or treat bags, and ill be making stacks of gold selling them when the event ends :D

Why oh why does Guild Wars 2 run like complete crap on the GeForce GTX 680? I'm not looking for troubleshooting, rather, I just need to vent...

I replaced my crossfire Radeon 6970's with a GTX 680 SLI setup. On most games the improvement is noticeable with all the bells and whistled turned on. However, in Guild Wars 2 the GTX 680's (tried with and w/o SLI) the performance is just downright appalling at 2560x1600. Inconsistent frame rates, slideshow frame rates in certain PvE areas, frame rate stutters on quick motion changes, rendering bugs, and screen flickering render it all but unplayable. Sadly, I reinstalled my Radeon setup because GW2 (where I spend most of my time) runs much smoother on it with the same settings and remains very playable even when the frame rates drop into the 20's.

To preempt the obvious questions people ask, the rest of the system is complete overkill for GW2. The main specs being: Core i7-970, 24GB DDR3-1600, and 256GB SSD. I simply cannot fathom how ANet released something that runs like complete crap on high end current generation video hardware but runs very well on 2 yr old hardware that should be outclassed in every possible way. It makes me wonder how many people are turned off from the game because this performance impacted my enjoyment of the game enough to essentially put $1000 on the shelf and run old hardware until it gets fixed. (Which is a luxury many people may not have/cannot afford.) Seriously, WTH ANet!!!!

The previous WHQL driver gave my 680 quite a boost especially in large areas. I guess there's still more room to improve.
