Blkout, I want you to define "veteran GW1" player for meI just want to see if I meet the requirements:
1. Has at least 6 characters on account at lvl 20.
2. Has been on a team that has cleared domain of anguish in 35 min or less (DoASC)
3. Has been on a team that has cleared the Deep in 15 min.
4. Has been on a team that has cleared the Underworld in less than 35min. (After the Dhumm update)
5. Has at least 30pts in HoM.
6. Has pugged FoW more times than he can count.
If I fit the mold of a veteran GW1 player, i would like to provide my opinions on GW2, from the perspective of another GW1 veteran player (me).
I cannot put the game down. Literally. I'm trying to get my "Legendary Weapon" achievement and I'm staring at Foefire's Essence and Sunrise from a far distance. One day they will be mine. I have 3 lvl 80 characters (Guardian, Thief, and Mesmer) that offer various playstyles in between playing them, and I equally enjoy running all of them in dungeons, WvW, and farming (thief mostly for farming since they have 25% permanenet speed boost with Signet of Shadows). Each of them are decked out in full exotic gear that I have crafted/mystic forged and partially farmed matertials myself (I am lvl 400 in Armorsmith/Leatherworks/Tailor/Jewelry/Artificer/Chef...weaponsmith and huntsman are next). I craft stuff for my guild for free, which is pretty cool actually.
Aside from the fact that I dislike WvW because it comes down to how many people can overwhelm the other(only reason I go there is to get my monthly achievement)..I love this game.The Halloween update...bleh...it's ok, but I look forward to more updates for GW2 content. I'll be here for a while. There is so much to do in this game it's downright overwhelming. I'm in a guild of about 25-30 people that are active on Teamspeak on average,.....every day. Some peeps like to do WvW/PvP...some like to explore for that 100% explorer or see the scenery...some like to lvl up and gear out and theorycraft builds....some would like to group up and start new toons. I participate in almost every one of these aspects in my guild (except for PvP...I would like to get my mesmer in there
)
If you want to, you can get immersed in this game. But if you don't like it...well, I guess you don't like it. I can't force you to like it. I'm not going to even try.All I know is that I'm enjoying almost every minute of it, no matter what I'm doing in the game.
There are 2 immediate downsides to the game that I dislike and that is WvW zerg aspect which is simply overwhelming the other teams and ...of course...bots. They run rampant, and I don't know why Anet hasn't addressed this issue on a grand scale. It messes up my farming on cursed shore since they changed the AI of the mobs that spawn there and aggro everything, slowing down my farming process of ecto. But other than that, the game is simply the best game I have ever played....ever. Who knows maybe my feelings will change about it in the future, but that is how I feel about the game now.
I have all of your criteria and more in some ways, I actually have 8 level 20's, I have two different GW accounts because I got in before they offered additonal characters slots and I wanted one of every profession so I had to have two accounts each with 4 slots to play all of the professions. Later they allowed you to purchase additional character slots but it was too late, I already had too much invested in my two accounts and 8 characters. I also have two copies of each of the expansions, Factions, Nightfall and Eye of the North because I had to have one for each account to continue to playing those characters and capping new elites since Anet didn't allow merging of accounts. So I had a few hundred dollars ties up in my GW accounts between all the expansions. I have numerous sets of FoW armor, and 30 points in my HoM. I didn't bother going any further than 30 points as titles weren't really worth it to me. I've played all of the elite dungeons and completed them but I don't remember if I completed them in those time limits.
I'e already expressed my concerns about what makes it boring to me. they took out all the things that made the original fun.
So here's a quote from one of my previous posts:
I think the level caps are too high but that's really more of a time issue. For those people that can drop 3 or 4 hours per day in the game, it probably doesn't seem like an issue to them, it is for me though. And yes, the game is boring me, I really miss the ability to dual class which opened up a lot of playstyle options, I also miss the standard skill bar that wasn't tied to my weapons, I much preferred the choice of picking my skills for my skill bar from the hundreds that were available. I miss capturing elite skills, that was a great motivator to keep playing for the thrill of capping all of them, which I did. Now we only get a few elites per character and you don't even have to do anything special to get them, just need the skill points which comes in time. I miss tracking down the bosses that had the elite skills and capping them. The trait system is in some ways a replacement for the old skill system because you have lots of traits to choose from, however the problem is that you still have the same main 5 skills which honestly just gets boring to look at after a hundred plus hours of playing but I can't change my main 5 skills without changing weapons to something that I might not want to use.
Go back and read some of my original posts in this thread in the earlier pages and you'll see I was defending this game quite a bit and enjoying myself a good bit in the first few weeks, but what you're reading now is my current stae of mind on the game and I'm very unhappy that it has almost completely lost my interest inside of two months.
