The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

Been reading and commenting on the official forums. Seems ANet is tap dancing around the whole WvW invisible army player culling issue and they have no clue how to fix it.

I also found out that the servers only allow a paltry 500 players per WvW map. So that is only 166 players per side. That is pretty sad, especially for how poor the performance is. I think ANet really skimped on the server hardware.

Started playing GW2 about a week or more ago and thought I was doing pretty good.
Then some guy blows by me, same level as I am and is killing everything is sight with seemingly no effort.

I once again have hit the “have no clue what I am doing” wall. Am I going to have to theorycraft my ass off again to get even passable in this game?

OMG Toejam & Earl...I loved that game on Genesis!

I've had some moments like that but what I've found recently is that I need to try different weapon combo's. I have a 12 warrior that I found is pretty gnarly with a main hand axe and off hand horn... love dual axes as well... but the horn allows you to zoom around the map a bit more.

Engineer is fun but I adjusted a bit to the elixir gun and that's pretty cool...

I have more time in on a Guardian though, fairly easy to level and self heal... nuke the hell out of things with a greatsword (I've just been cheap and haven't upgraded it for awhile)... so again, keep checking your weapons and gear for upgrades and combo's that will roid up your toon the way you like to play it.

Rogue with Daggers is fun but a paper armor problem... rogue with pistols is fun as a distance player but not as much dps output... with Sword/Dagger lately found a nice combo of dps and distance moves...

Game is really cool in the subtle and not so subtle changes tied to how you setup your weapons.

Ok, I will play around some more. Good game so far, world seems massive.

I know you say he was the same level, but was he downleveled? Going to a low level area as a high level pretty much means you'll be killing things in just a couple or a few hits.

Or the other guy was a Warrior

Im sorry, but if you want to faceroll farm, Warrior is by far what the class is for,

You'll never be able to do this with an ele or engi for example

Maybe. Personally, my dual dagger elementalist was much better at facerolling than my gs warrior. Got warrior to 49 then rerolled ele which sits at 62(?).

Ele's are entirely too squishy to faceroll mobs as quickly as a Warrior can. Don't get me wrong, Ele's are a fantastic class to play, and I love my 80 ele to death. But if you're looking for an easy class to farm with, and very quickly, a Greatsword Warrier will outshine an Ele any day of the week.

For now

I dunno, as a D/D condition/crit/toughness thief I bring down mobs extremely fast, especially with Heartseeker crit + 20% extra damage after they fall below 50% + quickness runes and haste

Just to reinforce the point - I now run around with a GW1 throwback exotic hammer called the Ugly Stick which gives extra power(damage) every time I kill an enemy, up to 25 stacks. When it's fully charged, down-leveled or not, I'll be out dps ing anyone other than a similarly juiced character.

Sigil of Bloodlust is pretty heavily outclassed by Sigil of Fire or Sigil of Air, AoE or single-target preference assuming you have decent crit.

Pretty surprised, just leveled Artificing for less than 1g total after reselling leftovers and refined mats on the TP. 1g for ~11 levels is a trade I'll take any day.

I used cooking to get a ton of levels and nearly broke even as well, even after they patched it so that some mats were drop only.

If possible, when doing crafting for XP, use a crafting booster off the Trading Post, the gains are amazing.

I got a couple of characters up in their 30's but now I can't bring myself to play the game.

:(

I haven't played in a week, since I've been enjoying BL2 and some Diablo3 (with the wife) lately...but I am pretty excited about the halloween event :)

So, how about them bots?

ArenaNet needs to get off their ass and nuke the bot population. I see some of the same bots, every day, in the same place, even though I report them regularly. Its not even like you have to dig to find them. Pretty surprised ANET can't dig up one or two people to hop around between servers, check the bot reports, and ban the shit of of these characters. I don't know what their plan is, but it doesn't seem very complicated to have some GM characters hop around and drop the ban hammer on these characters. The game has an economy with RMT transacitons, ANET needs to do better.

Just started playing again after taking a break due to school/work and checking out BL2 for a bit. I've got to say the game is still just awesomely fun. Explore a little here, DE here and there, play the Trading Post, etc. It's a good time-waster to relax to at the end of the day for an hour or two.

Its getting really annoying, on my server they run in swarms. It completely ruins an area. Sure you can still get the quest done by following them and tagging but then you run the risk of being recognized in a swarm of bots and getting lumped in with them.

They are like 90% Rangers and 10% Warriors on my server. They are getting more crafty too. Today I've seen a few use cooldowns to move faster between locations. And they are using Armor Dyes now

I didnt see this mentioned in the thread (though I may have missed it) but if anyone is interested, they have a writeup on how to turn on Mobile Two Factor Authentication.

https://forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/info/news/Beta-Feature-Mobile-Two-Factor-Authentication

Uses a Google app on your phone to generate the check code. It's no replacement for a proper, single use, complex password, but if you value your account, it's one more thing to slow the hackers down I guess.

Good read on the security of the game and how they are tracking the hacking attempts....

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/

Since we’ve been observing hackers constantly scanning accounts that don’t even exist yet, waiting for someone to create those accounts, we obviously want to make sure that if those new customers do join the game, they don’t use the password that the hackers are waiting for. Thus we’re building a blacklist of all the passwords that hackers are scanning for — it’s already at 20 million passwords and growing — and we’re preventing new customers from choosing any of those passwords. (The blacklist contains passwords only, not account names.)

If they are truly doing everything he claims (and I have no reason to doubt him), I'm impressed.

*goes back to listening to the 4 CD soundtrack for the game*

I cannot stress enough DO NOT use smartphone authenticaters. Anything happens to your phone it's a nightmare and a half to regain access to your account.

I use an old phone that never leaves the house. It has auth's for all the major game clients on it.

I figured it was a decent use for an old phone (as well as a good MP3 player while gaming).

As for recovery, that varies a lot by company, but I'd rather be locked out of a secured account for a while than be trying to get back one that was hacked and stripped I think.

Granted, everyone looks at it differently.

Just turned level 64 and haven't even started crafting yet. Guess it's about time...

By the way, you guys saw this? https://www.guildwars2.com/en/events/halloween-2012

Shadow of the Mad King
Release Overview
Halloween has a long history in Tyria, and in times past was always marked by the spirit of Mad King Thorn cavorting among the people unleashing his own brand of insanity. However, it’s been over 250 years since he was last seen, and for most people he is merely a figure of folklore. Despite this, rumors persist among the populace that something wicked this way comes.

Shadow of the Mad King is the first major game release for Guild Wars 2 and will go live on October 22. This new game update will include a number of new features for all of our players to enjoy, new content to explore and see, and a week-long Halloween event.

I agree 100%.

Totally ruins the game when these robo-swarms run by killing everything.

Hope anet does something about them.

How did you spec your warrior? Going up the precision tree while leveling, there's no question the warrior is currently the most powerful class while leveling up. I have an 80 guardian, 80 ranger, and originally rolled an elementalist for duel daggers.

There's no comparison on DPS. Hundred blades can rack up 3000+ damage at level 40. Auto attacks hit for 1500 with 90% crit at early levels. It's pretty insane.

What really tells the story, is that every level 80 elementalist in my guild has re-rolled another character because of the subpar DPS and survivablity compared to other classes. That's not an indicator of how fun the class is to play. But as a profession, they're not in a good place right now. Same with rangers. Extremely enjoyable, but subpar DPS and utility at the moment with the shortbow nerf.

Once you see a level 80 warrior tear it up with dual axes, you'll realize the meaning of facerolling.

Having serious withdrawal symptoms because no internet at home till Dec 1st...

Sure glad there is no subscription though.

the reason I said Nov maybe is that Dec is 6 weeks so I was hoping he made a mistake.
At least for his sake I guess it was just hoping.

Ahhh. Christ, getting up earlier than usual to go to work really messes with me. This isn't the first instance ugh. I agree, Dec would blow. Hard.

So I've been going around making money just so I can build orichalcum boxes. Useless really from a functional standpoint as I already have enough room to manage. However, I find that I just enjoy gathering stuff and playing the trading post.

Wtf, the official Anet forum is ridiculously moderated.

This is an automated message. Your post in Wealth Distribution was infracted.

Your original post in Wealth Distribution:

We can use another one of those infographic about now from John Smith. It would be nice to see what it's like now.

Seriously???? If they only spend that energy actually banning bots you know...

There is currently a GW2 forum debacle going on where numerous people spent $50+++ on Black Lion Chest keys and got zero unique skins from it. The Nexon comparison is getting tossed around like crazy, not the best PR move for ArenaNet. ANet built up a lot of goodwill with players and they are currently getting slammed all over the forum.

Now I am all for some people winning and some people losing on random items like those chests. However if they are going to market the hell out of the chest and keys, the drop rate should at least be high enough where if someone drops $[over the cost of the retail game] on keys they will get something out of it. People who drop large amount of money won't be buying keys the next time around with the drop rates so low. I was going to buy a bunch of keys myself and that won't be happening now.

Also ArenaNet changed the in-game BLTC ad for Keys to show the Halloween items *before* the patch came out. I know two people (casuals) who jumped in and bought keys once they changed the ad, thinking they could get the Halloween items. They opened a bunch of chests and... Nope! Not only did they waste money, there was literally a 0% chance they could have acquired Halloween items at that point in time. Bad move by Arena Net, they should not have updated their in-game spam ads until the items were actually in the game...

Plus they should be more worried about pissing off actual players when bots out number humans in multiple zones on my server and others...

Yeah, the drop rates in the chest is ridiculous. I used 20 keys and got jack shit and honestly I'm a bit pissed. Granted 20 keys next to what some people have claimed they used and got nothing or just 1 skin isn't that much but still should have yield something imo. For this being a limited time thing and not an always around items the drop rates are retard
