The Official Guild Wars 2 thread

What magical server do you play on? You are literally the only person I have seen saying anything other than what I have said.

It's just about the biggest complaint I have seen in the game. People jump into an event and just mash buttons like zombies. No communication rarely any support and few ever bothering to res the fallen.

Personally I make it my mission in events to run around reviving since nobody else will.

Well other people have all ready replied to this and I would say the same thing, what asshat server do you play on? Never had any problem with people reviving in group events. Lots of communication and great support when doing events or just fighting randoms mobs and champions.

I do agree with you a little about the button mashing, but this only happens when there are too many people doing an event, but, why bother with any tactics when sheer numbers is going to win easily anyway. And, again, as I said in my last few posts, I really think that arenanet didn't expect such large volumes of people to buy the game and that's why this occurs.

Oh I am on Gunnar's hold, it's a european server. It's the server that most Irish people are trying to play on.

...and fell through the ground again. On a L80 Personal Story mission, after like 30 minutes of fighting. The /stuck command doesn't work :( Anet won't provide a /suicide command, so I have been at this for like 45 minutes trying to get my illusions to shoot the mobs through the floor.

//UPDATE: I finished the encounter by shooting through the floor when the boss came close to me :D Also I think I was getting in hits by shattering Illusions. Fortunately I didn't have to go anywhere else, that was the last past of the quest so I could just warp out :p

Unlucky, I have only fell through the floor once. And I am the only person in my guild to have experienced this.

Haha, I should change my unlucky to lucky :) It worked out well for you so!!

Blkout what my buddy was so mad about was all the people who used cooking for over a month then he gets the game and they IN YOUR WORDS fix it.
So he is forced to GRIND endless mobs to get his mats to level cooking.
WAIT didn't they say the hate grinding and did NOT want people to be forced to do endless grinding?

like I told him they have no clue and will Nerf anything daily just to F with the player base.
I said maybe you just need to go spend money in their shop and oh yea spend some more, maybe that will help...THEN LAUGHED AT HIM

hell when you have to buy gems to get gold at an inflated price then get charged 15% from the same company you just purchased them from to use them
THATS ANET

I bet they wished they had an RMAH like D3 then they could really F with people.

ps I saw a guy buy a skorn on the D3 RMAH for $300..... yep mom will be surprised on that visa bill ROFL

Having a blast started playing 2 days ago, joined a guild with some friendly people, crafting in not nearly as grindy or bad as WOW, i took artificing and tailoring for my Elementailst, lots of talking on my server im on, and lots of people to run with.

Oh your poor friend, instead of been able to get to 400 cooking in a few hours he has to go out and actually farm the mats for it. It was also an easy way to level. So they fixed it, now cooking works like other professions. Where is the nerf? Endless grind lol it's barely any grind at all. Your friend just sounds like he wants it all now without even playing the game.

You don't have to buy Gems at all. I can't see any reason to, unless you want an easy way to get some gold. Oh but that's it, it's an easy way to get gold all right, but there is a sting in the tail. I am delighted they put the sting in, why bother getting the game if you are only going to buy your way through it?

In fact why does "your buddy" even have this game? it's plain that neither you or him want any challenge and just want easy. You might as well just buy a bot and let it play for you and come back when it's reached level 80 with a ton of gold. Or get farmville or something, not much effort needed for those games.

I'm level 50 now on my Ranger. Been a fun ride so far about 50+ hours. I'm starting to slow down my playing a little bit the wife and me are going back to WoW she wants to do the expac so we'll see how it goes. My most enjoyment out of GW2 has so far been the dungeons. I've done the level 30, 35, 40 and 45 experiences for Story/Explore and that were a lot of fun, a nice balance of challenge and monster bashing. But i had some lucky good group of players to enjoy it with.

I did cooking from 0 to 400 the other day out of boredom and I didnt grind for anything.

Between picking up some mats on the TP for cheap, and then sneaking out to the NPC's who sell some mats for Karma and getting those done (the ones that were higher level than me were still easy thanks to all the other people around working on them).

Used a crafting xp booster that I had gotten and gained a ton of xp and levels. Very happy overall. If it was even easier than that before I can see why they tweaked it, cause it wasnt hard at all.

About 210 hours played and only 71, and still so much to see and do. I'm content with that.

Theres a more friendly atmosphere because there is NO player interaction at all its completely discouraged. Almost everything is designed to be solo and the parts that are not automatically put you into a group of random people that do not communicate, do not work together and may as well be NPCs.You can do every single thing in this game without ever typing a single word. Hell you could turn the chat completely off and it wouldnt affect the game one bit.

Try soloing Arah DE chain then holla back :D Me and like 4 other people were trying to tell other players what to do after failing to capture the altar the 1st time. People in the game actually listen when they don't want to fail, suprisingly.

Someone is getting his moneys worth...:D

I have ~220 hours with two lvl 80's. My Guardian (full crafted exotic armor/jewelry/mystic claymore. 400 armorsmith/400 jewelry). The other is my Thief (full karma exotic armor and is 400 chef/400 Leatherworks).

Working on charr warrior and asuran engineer. Looking forward to mastering all the crafts.

Funny thing is that I haven't completed the story mode on either of my 80's. :X

Borlis Pass, along with a lot of other [H] members. We've got a 50 man Ventrilo set up for members (Thanks Dremic ;) ) ,but I usually see a lot of people reviving. I'm actually sometimes scared at how well people work together. I'm also the guy that does the reviving too.

I'm just in no rush and there's tons to do if you don't stare at level 80 and think "OMG I HAVE TO GET THERE NOWZ!".

I craft, I RP a little, I explore, hell my story quest hasnt been worked on since about level 55 so I've got tons of that left to do. I think I'm supposed to go meet some tree next?

I've got a couple alts, all under level 7 that I'll mess with at some point.

If anything I'm trying to not hit 80 anytime soon, and I've got plenty of zones left to explore for 100% of the world.

Same here. I've got 140ish hours in with 3 chars. Level 60 warrior, with weaponsmith and armorsmith around 275, level 35 ele with jewel craft and cooking at. 300, and my newest char a level 25 mesmer with tailoring and artificing around 150.

I've got a long way to go before I've done everything I want to do in this game. I'm really enjoying myself just taking it easy. And wvw is a blast when you're with a competent group. We decimated jq last night. Took 2 of their towers, their garrison, all of their supply camps, and took the 3rd orb back. We basically laid waste to everything that was in our path

Most [H] members aren't morons. It's amazing what playing with non-idiots is like, isn't it?

QFT.

I had the most skilled and competent people around for raiding back in WoW (Vanilla-TBC), there's nothing like that feeling of having people back you up at any point.

Sitting on 98% completed on the Cursed Shore right now. The game is an odd contradiction of beautiful environments which cant be enjoyed due to a tight FOV, close camera, and absolutely relentless enemies that don't let you stop for a minute. I had trouble just warping to a waypoint a few times tonight, I couldn't get out of combat for long enough to pull up the map and pan to Lion's Arch.

When you do get a moment of peace, the game often looks amazing.

I don't know. I'm having fun. It's the first game I have stuck with in a long time. Just hit my 40's in game and really enjoying it. I actually find lots of people to group with and find this game has way less attitude from the players than others I have played.

absolutely true...the problem is, IF we could pan the camera back more, we'd realize just how small the world is..tsw did the same thing...imagine staring at your shoes while walking through your house...your focus of attention would give the 'illusion' your house is huge

they've also created alot of 'alleyway', linear travel paths..it gives you a clausterphobic feeling just trying to get through one zone..its one giant 'foxhole' you have to endure..i hate it

This rings false to me. There are plenty of maps with wide expanses that can be traversed as you see fit. There are also maps and areas that are set in treacherous terrain like mountains or caverns, where by design the paths are linear. I hate to break it to you, but it is like this in real life as well.

Anet has put in vistas that allow you to be a voyeur of your surroundings if you like. You can also surmount a lot of the obstacles you see if you want and just take in the sights.

Not to mention that the game is structured to present a challenge to players in each new zone. If you could just take a ferry ride over all of the enemies, people would complain that there's no incentive to actually fight the enemies in the game that aren't part of your personal story or dynamic events. As it is, once you visit a locale, you can always just transport yourself via the waypoint system if you want to avoid fighting baddies.

GW2 has a lot of problems, but I don't think the landscape being too restrictive is one of them.

On the final story mission right now...

Whoever designed these encounters doesn't understanding pacing AT ALL. Or difficulty. Sweet Jesus.

//Just finished... Pretty awesome :D

For those that want a wider FOV in GW2 you could try this out. I tested it and it does work, I just haven't had the time yet to actually get much play time with it.

Disclaimer:
This is a use at your own risk as it seems ANet knows about it and says they don't want people using it.

I have to say my only real argument against this game is the pacing of leveling. Originally I leveled a Warrior and so it didn't matter so much that the content I was doing severely out-leveled me although killing mobs 12+ levels above me did take awhile; however leveling my Elementalist is quite a bit different and it seems like if I don't specifically look around for events to pad my XP then I am doomed to go 100% another zone the same level.

They have been banning for it. Anets official stance is suck it up and take the 75 FOV, or go buy 3 monitors and rock Eyefinity.

Silly.

the name of this game should be changed to Bot Wars. the amount of bots running around i haven't seen since lineage 2.

Going from a Warrior to an Ele is like going from Rainman to I Am Sam.

Their playstyles and difficulty are on complete opposite spectrums. You want an easier transition? Get Lightning Hammer and spec out your toughness and power.

I've hit 80 on my warrior, picked up the mystic claymore and haven't had the motivation to make an exotic set of armor. BUT, I did start leveling my Necromancer. They are fun!

I suprised you find it fun! Necro's are monsters efrom lvl 1-60 but they slowly start dropping off after that. Their damage pails in comparrison to a Greatsword Warriors, which is why I'm surprised you're enjoying them. Death Shroud is a great escape mechanic though :D

I have a 70 Ele, a 65 Necro, a 55 Ranger, and a 20 warrior. I've been delaying my endgame experience :p

I think it's the staff gameplay, really. I really like the marks moreso than I thought I would. Also, I like the ability to then swap to my dagger/focus and mess people up in melee.

It's a completely different style, but it's something I appreciate.

Can't be worse than Aion at launch. There were 5 man bot teams competing against other bot teams to gather resources. A team would have each member on follow as they raced around with speed hacks gathering. At one spot where you gathered dragon teeth for some pattern, the bot trail was a circle. We nicknamed that one Watkins Glen as it looked like a NASCAR race. We'd climb on top of a hill and oversee the bot races to tag the mobs since none of us were fast enough to tag a mob before they could.

Was even funnier when the opposite faction would invade and think they were going to farm bots. Those 5 man teams that consisted of cleric, templar, 2 rogues and the cleric / melee hybrid would all blow them up so fast with attack speed hacks. Many epic lulz watching that!

Yea I seen that thread, that's why I had added in the "use at your own risk".
For the life of me I can't understand why they can't give players a choice by adding in a FOV slider.

I think they believe that the zoomed in camera adds a sense of surprise in pvp as you can't tell who's coming up behind you. Well from the sides either really. :)

And that 1% loves it. Seriously, you can get 3 monitors for $500 and they will last you nearly a decade. Surround gaming is in no way expensive. While I did opt for Crossfire when I rebuilt my PC last year (I used a Matrox TH2Go with a single card), it is the last time ever I run a dual card setup. A solid $350 card will run surround just fine with none of the multiple crashes and incompatibilities.

It took a very long time for this game to grow on me. I went through all the classes 1-10 before I found one or 2 that did not bore me. What worries me the most is that it was hyped for its PvP. I have yet to experience sPvP, but I found WvWvW to grow old REALLY fast (minutes) and be a total clusterfrack mindless button mash completely lacking focus. Worse, any decent pvp encouter on a smaller scale was just amongst the most boring and uninspiring pvp I've had in 20 years of gaming. I sure hope there is some good engame PVE, because I can but chuckle every time I'm reminded that this was presented as a "pvp" game.

Ha ha! Good one there! The camera gives me headaches so I stopped playing 2 weeks ago or so. I was wondering why I was getting irritated while playing the game so I stopped and analyzed what was irking me. Funny how the smallest of issues can ruin an experience.

Borderlands 2 irks me also but I can adjust that FoV. Doesn't fix everything but it sure is light years ahead of GW2.

I would argue that a fairly similar percentage of people actually care about an adjustable FOV. People that care about adjustable FOV always talk like everyone should care. Just like people who complain about lacking Eyefinity support bring up issues like they are the worst things in the world :D

Yup. I run 3 1080p monitors in eyefinity with my single 6950 and it is still holding up surprisingly well. I totally have to droll things like shadows down a bit in games but Im ok with that. And eyefinit is so worth it. Spent $450 on my 3 monitors and think it was still the right thing to do..

I had pretty much given up on NV Surround - I sold one of my 680s but I decided to wait until GW2 came out because I loved the first game so much.

So glad I waited - this game is fantastic at 5760x1080

I do play single screen occasionally and it really doesn't bother me, but I think this is a game that really begs to be played on 3 monitors.

I run everything on max except for shadows on medium and it's flawless - almost always 60fps on a single GTX680
