The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

Soooo.... -Dragon- , i pity those that paid for a PhysX card to get the same effects that i get from my ATI card for no additional costs ;)

How is that any different from enabling PhysX in the menu itself? It's not like the option is locked out for AMD users.

Man, after that one conference call shotgun dropped off the last boss, can't get any more legendaries.

The PhysX options in the menu don't do anything if you have an AMD card.

you haven't tried it have you? If you mean it won't let you change it, be sure to check the options from the first menu. Once you change it, looks just like on an nvidia card - but a helluva lot slower.

See my specs below, it does come to a crawl. Running it on my GTX 680M laptop however, it runs smooth as silk maxed out. So yeah, that's a no-go on the AMD. I can usually get away with Low Physx using that tweak. But it does come to a crawl if you put it higher, even on a 2600K i7. :(

My friend has a 6900 series card and can change the settings just fine without having to edit the .ini file. He has to run it on medium though because high is too stressful on the CPU.

I got framerate dips without PhysX enabled too. But it maintains a steady 72fps 90% of the time so I have no complaints.
well I had drops into the 20s with one area that had some persistent chunks. I finally just turned physx to low and have no intentions of turning it back on.

I don't think base 560 would be able to handle both render and physx at a decent res anyway. oc 560ti maybe, that's what I have and still a bit of headroom left @ 1680, and the gtx260 I use to offload the phsyx barely tops out at 30-50% use even during the most intense firefights.

I know my card is not fast but that was not the point. I was originally talking to the person that was running it on their cpu. they have to be dropping to really low framerates at times even worse than me running physx. and to me thats not worth it even if it does run okay most of the time.

No.

I dare you go to caustic carven with your physx CPU and come back and tell me it's perfectly smooth.

My game ground down to about 15fps with physx on medium when I got to the dam. Too much shit flying around, so I had turn it off.

ya, I was like holy.... had to turn it down. not sure why he posted the ini change, it is in graphics settings

Well, for ATI users, the option is grayed out. I know it is grayed out for me. (6950)

It was grayed out for me, too. After changing the .ini file, i can now change it in the options though.

It is grayed out for me too on 5870. After changing ini files it is still greyed out but PhysX works fine. Except infamous Caustic Caverns where I switch it off.

yes but I was saying just because its fine most of the time does not make up for the times where it dips to basically unplayable.

Do you experience that on your system? Because mine's not got to the unplayable part yet. I've even been able to record a bunch of stuff whilst playing, even in very busy areas and with two other people doing stuff. Maybe I'm getting lucky.

there was one area where it would drop into the 20s even with medium physx but with physx on low I was getting over 90 fps in the same area. and it was not just a fluke as I replayed that part a few times.

I have PhysX option on my 6950's, didn't have to mess with the ini. I wonder why some people are having that issue.
Caustic Cavern brings most people's systems to their knees it seems, I know I get pretty laggy in there. Still playable and not worth restarting to change PhysX.

There was a new version of PhysX released last week that has either improved performance drop offs...or I haven't gone back to the areas that really bottomed out.
For me, the areas that gave me the most performance problems were the "drain" area of the Bloodshots Hideout and the Soaring Dragon area with max view distance.
In those two areas, tossing out my turret bogged things down once it starts spewing rockets.

Lately I haven't seen the same issues, though. The Caustic Caverns have been normal, and even the chaotic part at the end of the Widlife preserve was no big deal.

Without giving out any spoilers does anybody here find the end boss fight a bit disorienting? I don't mind everything going to hell around me but with all the effects and attacks from boss and adds it just creates a mess on screen.

I actually hate PhysX in this game so I wouldnt worry to anyone not having it. I turned it off. Blood / Corrosion et all look remarkably fake, and it gets in the way of getting headshots with Maya (you cant see the head in phase lock with all the crap flying around).

I wish we could specify certain PhysX effects. I like the particle effects for explosions and shockwaves but I agree the blood and water effects look silly. I love the cloth effects as well.

I don't particularly have an issue with it, been farming it on + for a bit now.

My reccomendation would be to deal with the ground adds early, only hit the air ones if downed and watch for the bosses location blip on the minimap.

Should be far more bearable.

Also, the 'raid' boss is great fight after him. Was FIIIINALLY able to solo him last night on + as well, very happy!

Must be a driver issue or something, I really don't know. Like I said, I know my friend has a 6900 series card and was able to enable PhysX right in the menu like normal.

Do the ground adds endlessly re spawn? I kept seeing them everywhere.

It is not the same.....

I have played this game with physx off an nVidia gpu and also just using my 5870 and 6870.
The nVidia physics are MUCH more detailed.
The reason you get no performance drop locally is because the nVidia physx are doing much more visually.

Well finished run through #1 this weekend. Gotta say the part leading up to the end was the most challenging part. I died maybe 5 times throughout the whole game until I got to the last zone. I don't know what happened but a couple of shots from anything would take me to 20 or 30 health. I think at level 33 my health and shields combined wasn't over 8,000

RPG loaders? You can go fuck yourselves you bastards!

Except for the very last warrior zone. I was surprised that it wasn't more difficult. Like....super easy.

No more than 3 at a time, I believe, about 15s apart once killed.

Edit: would it be of value to you if I make a video of my farming run and post it? I can use a slighlty less awesome weapon to draw the fight out. :p

No real good place I've found.... so basically, don't kill anyone else, knock off the helmet, then weaken other bad guys with a pistol or a low damage weapon so goliath only needs one real hit to kill them.

Oh, and don't do this in the area with Mordecai providing sniper support.... his slag effect makes goliath die even faster.

There is a quest once you get Brick back in the group. Go back to his area there is a quest to protect some drop supplys. Weaken the bots and let the goliath kill em.

This may be a stupid question but I've searched around and not found a definitive answer...

Concerning damage multipliers...say grenades...

If I have one grenade mod that does 1000x9 damage, and another that does 2000x3 damage, would not the first one be far more powerful? And if so why does the game show the second one as having more damage when comparing?
edit: to be clear, I have two nade mods that both spawn the respective number of child nades and seek out the enemy.

Also when looking at gun stats, when say a pistol has a damage rating of 100x4
I know that means it shoots four bullets every shot while only counting as one round, but does each bullet do 100 damage, or does each bullet do 25 damage?
