The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

I actually do not like robots in the game. It is much more enjoyable to kill living creatures. Robots are boooring.

I love the robots because it's easy to blow their limbs off and watch them be less effective.

Also - what ARE these key codes I see being posted? does it have something to do with the crazy skull key to open up the chest in sanctuary? I'm only a level 17 right now -- and I Never played borderlands 1 -- loving the game so far.

Skull keys yes!

Just finished playthrough 1 (was gone all week for work). LVL 35 in the end.

Now I can start torchlight2

I am having issues with SLI as well. I did the same settings as above but still experience laggy firefights with 6-7+ enemies. Using older drivers (296.10) seems to smooth out the game but the second GPU sees no activity when I am monitoring it on MSI afterburner. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I fixed my lag! It turns out I had massive microstutter and after a few Google searches I found the settings to remedy the issue. In the program settings profile, I forced adaptive vsync and triple buffering. In game, I set my frames to unlimited and turned on vsync. However, the game now plays smooth as silk and my GPU usage between both cards have been reduced by 20-30%!

Edit: After a few plays I found that adaptive vsync is not working in fullscreen windowed mode since the fps is above 130ish fps from in the game fps command, so I believe the triple buffering and the in game vsync is what fixed my issue.

I don't think camps of people and creatures that attack you on sight rather than letting you wander through unmolested could be described as "peaceful".

just scored this on a side mission in the fridge. It's at least 5x more expensive than the next closest gun I've found. I'm lvl 30 which is a bit of a bummer.

funny thing about this is it says it explodes like a grenade like many guns do, but it explodes like 5 times while bouncing around per the name so if you weren't paying attention to the name or tried it you wouldn't have known.

where is a good place to try and get a goliath to god mode?

No real good place I've found.... so basically, don't kill anyone else, knock off the helmet, then weaken other bad guys with a pistol or a low damage weapon so goliath only needs one real hit to kill them.

Oh, and don't do this in the area with Mordecai providing sniper support.... his slag effect makes goliath die even faster.

The difficulty in this game makes no fucking sense.

It really is all over the place. One mission I'll be unstoppable, the next I'm getting one hit by some random bandit. They'll both be the same level mission too, it's bizarre. Badass pyro threshers anyone?

Fuck those threshers.

sucks I work a weekend shift and seem to be missing out on these short lived codes.

Oh well -- in 5 hours I will be off, and able to screw around for 3 days! Hooray 3 days off :)

Can't wait to open my first skull case soon.

I seriously pity console people and pure ATI people who are missing out on the PhysX. I didn't care about it prior to BL2 because it was just a bunch of really lame extra effects that didn't add anything of value to games. Oh no, batman doesn't get to walk through a bunch of swirly paper.

Short list of PhysX things I love in BL2:

All the shrapnel and debris from exposions
Chunks of dirt kicked up from bullets hitting the ground and other objects
Puddles of various colored blood when you gib mobs
Puddles of corrosive and slag that form from various weapons and gernades
Banners that blow in the distance giving you that uneasy feeling because suddenly not everything that moves in the distance is an enemy
Phaselock and singularity gernades sucking in all of the above into a swirling mess, despite the fact that it sometimes obscures your aim for crits
Sparks that bounce around from fire weapons and various other sources
How long all of the above sticks around on the ground, and not just disappearing after a few seconds making the battle field feel like a battle field after the fight is over

Things I don't like or wish were changed/added about PhysX (mostly added)

Destructable objects on tables, I can blow chunks out of the floor but I can't shatter the bottles on the table?
Destructable buildings, would be awesome to level bandit camps as you move through them
Blood from bandits often times doesn't move or feel right because it's way too thick, I realize this is due to the limitations on realtime fluid animations but still bugs me at times

My current list of must have weapons is:

Snipe: high damage jacobs, possibly some really high damage 2 shells/shot elementals
Shot: explosive and corrosive (corrosive preferably with lower shells/shot than the explosive)
SMG: one of each element type except explosive (esp moxi's good and bad touch)
Pistol: fire and electric
AR: explosive, maybe another elemental type if it's really high damage
Gernade: sticky slag bouncing betty, sticks to the target and keeps them slagged the whole time it's going off + normal slag time after? awesome

some things look okay but its the same silly looking chunks that have been used since physx was introduced. they fly out of some things that clearly would not even produce those kind of chunks. and those unrealistic chunks just sit there and needlessly tank the framerate in some spots. any liquid in this game looks like liquid mercury with physx on and does act like real blood or water at all.

Such weird liquid animation is still way better then no liquid animation at all.

I'm on an ATI setup and I have PhysX enabled (on medium) and I can see all the effects as demo'ed in the previews. I only have it set to medium because on high the framerates would bottom out, and hell even in some areas and firefights it still gets pretty low set to medium. I'm sure it would be a lot better on an nVidia setup but I'm not really missing out AFAIK.

oh and btw, thank you to all those people who are posting shift keys. I don't have twitter myself.

Honestly aside from the blowing flags, chunks, some smoke, and those odd thick liquid pools......I can't say the physx is all that impressive.......yes there is a difference between AMD cards and nvidia cards, but it's not really a game changer.

The game doesn't play any different.....except the rare smoke or debris that interferes with aiming.

We're not. You're just as capable of experiencing the full range of PhysX effects whilst running a good graphics card simply by switching a 0 to a 1 or 2 in a text file. PhysX isn't limited to terrible GPU manufacturers.

Elaborate?

For ATI users (and it works, i just tried.....with virtually no framerate loss on my 6970 btw):

C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2\WillowGame\Config\WillowEngine.ini

Search for:

PhysXLevel

Change

PhysXLevel=0 <- (low)

to either:

PhysXLevel=1 <- (mid)

or

PhysXLevel=2 <- (high)

Soooo.... -Dragon- , i pity those that paid for a PhysX card to get the same effects that i get from my ATI card for no additional costs ;)

Yeah, go to Caustic Caverns with ATI card and PhysX and look at your frame rates crawl to its knees:) Most other areas plays fine though.

With such logic we should not have played computer games last 20 years because 3d graphics all 20 years looked like shit :)
that is a pretty stupid thing to say as graphics are relative to the time. there is not much point in adding physx to blood or water if its going to act like like liquid mercury. the point of physx is more realistic physics and blobby looking blood and water that bounce around is NOT realistic and looks silly.
