The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

Actually each time they did one during EU prime times they did another during US times, although when they first started dropping codes on twitter they were only good for 1k or 10k redemptions. It wasnt until this past weekend that they started having unlimited redemptions for 1 or 2 hours and again they did one euro prime and then US primetime each time.

...and generally the lower redemption ones were still in the middle of the US workday, so you had no real chance of getting one when you got home.

But no, I have been following them and they certainly did not do them twice a day for both time zones each time.

Something happened and steam cloud got out of sync with my save and it wouldn't let me play without syncing, when it synced I lost my data.

Not entirely steam's fault I guess, if I kept a backup it wouldn't be a problem, but one shouldn't have to do that.

Always pick Local. What do you think saves more often your PC or the cloud servers? If somehow your PC save gets corrupted well that is the chance you take. The cloud servers will always be older because it does not sync every second.

It is partially steam fault because it does not include a timestamp, only a date.

Origin gives a time stamp. :p

Thought they patched that to add a time-stamp for Steam?

Well they have been since at least the 23rd, which is when I started following Randy's tweets.

Had the pop up like a week ago and there was no time stamp. I dont pay attention to the steam patch notes so maybe it was added.

I'm pretty sure they added it. Seemed to be a big outrage about it, and rightfully so. I saw a reddit post a few days or so ago (could've been up to a week, I dunno) and it had a screenshot with a time-stamp.

Here's a mission related question.
I recently (no spoiler) completed the mission where the world changes a little bit as part of the Sanctuary storyline involving the train.
However as I was finishing up the final step of that mission, I saw 2 exclamation points show up for side quests, literally as I was clicking to finish that mission.

Will I ever get the chance to do those quests or did I just miss out?

i did the exact same thing, and yes, you can get those quests later.

New shift code: 5TW33-SRZFH-63J33-BJ3TJ-FXF9F

active from 6pm-8pm central time

i don't consider listening to one long ass run on sentence very entertaining.

Aahh all the SHIFT codes I am missing out on.. I need to set up Pitchford's tweets to notify.

Anyway here is another WARNING or what not to do.

Experiencing Steam sync issues? Well I did last night. Connection to steam lost. Got back on 40 minutes later and was forced to chose between: Download from cloud or Upload from computer (referring to game state). So I had confidence in the cloud and picked "download from cloud", silly me. Lost 5 hours of game play. All loot gathered, all the money earned, all the experience points.. you get the idea. Very nice, thank you Steam. Now I know not to trust the cloud.

Finally completed first play through (EU got this game a work week later). Did close to all side missions, ended up level 34. Final boss fight was a walk in the park. Did not even use my action skill once. Looking forward to True Vault Hunter mode.

So does anyone remember back before the game radically changed? when it was realistic and dark like fallout? I was pretty excited about that but when it changed I thought it was so dumb....but then I played it :)

and why should you not trust them now, because you failed to understand what it is or what it does? I think the main misconception here is, people are assuming that this "cloud" is replacing their own hard drive, they're not realising what a dangerous and stupid idea this would be. that's not what it does at all, nor should it, no matter how solid the service is.

think of it as a backup, that's all it is. now which copy is guaranteed to be more up to date... the one you've just been playing and constantly saving on for the last 5 hours, or the one you haven't touched since the last time you signed in?

see this is what I meant before... the service is basically useless, when they rely on the user to make the decision. it ends up wasting more time than you could ever save, as opposed to manually transferring these files yourself. somehow that makes way more sense to people, than clicking buttons that say "cloud" on it.

Thanks for the answer, arrogant and all.

Some people get off on this sort of discourse. :(

When Steam offers people this choice for the first time, they could offer additional info or at least link to info as to the exact mechanics of a Steam cloud save. I made the mistake of assuming cloud save was up to date and did not take time to study it myself because people were waiting for me.

What the hell is a shift code? Thanks

The shift codes being posted give you a gold key that opens the gold weapon crate in sanctuary.

When you sign up for Shift and link it to your Steam account you get one gold key, and if you enter the codes that Randy Pitchford has been posting on his twitter feed you get a gold key for each code he posts.

FYI each time he posts one code for the PC, another for the 360 and another for the PS3.

I think I've got like 8 gold keys by posting the codes he's tweeted,

So did it tell you which was newer via date & time-stamp? Did you just choose to ignore that portion?

Also, again. This is your own fault. You lost connection to steam for 40 minutes or so. Were you playing BL2 during that time? Why would you think the service you lost connection to would have a more up-to-date file?

Never choose to download from the cloud unless you are on a new computer and need the save file located on the cloud.

If you are playing SP and not MP or Co-op, why not just use offline mode?

I am nearly done with my first play through and have been solely using offline mode, no problems.:D

Now I know what people were referring to with the sudden increase of side quests. I just got about 20 in less than 2 minutes. Kind of odd to pace things out like that.

shift keys are the hats of borderlands. now that they have everyone hooked they will probably start selling 5 packs. Maybe they will allow you to put guns and stuff up for sale in the TF2 store.

yea, they seem to do that after each major milestone in the main quest line.

Like, never?

Thanks for the tip about signing up for Shift giving you a key, I thought it was only from the codes Randy was giving out. Wouldn't mind another one, first crate gave me an awesome shield.

You're talking about the super old like alpha build screenshots.

Pretty sure it's already been pointed out, but your cloud save will NEVER be newer than what's on your computer already, unless you play on multiple PCs.

Never choose to download from the cloud unless you are on a new computer and need the save file located on the cloud.

Also, if you install a game on a new PC that has cloud support, it automatically downloads the saved games without even prompting you. There's no need to ask you because there are no local saves in this case.

Finally picked this up from the GMG sale, and sure am glad I didn't drop $60 on it.
Inventory management is torture-tier bad. I couldn't make it more tedious if I tried.
BL1 inventory was light years better. Why the hell do I need to see the picture of every weapon
when I am going to have to mouse over each one anyway to compare the stats??? It makes
the vertical inventory list of items need to be scrolled a bunch of times to get down the list!
Also the FOV is still a mess, I hate when FPS games do this thing where when the environment seems to stretch at the edges, it's pretty annoying. Also the multiplayer is barely better, with all the copies sold I figured full groups would be easy to create but no, I have yet to see more than 2 people in a single game. Oh well.

pros: Senator Jack or whatever is funny.
