The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

I've had two issues with Borderlands 2.

First, and this only happens maybe once a day, is when entering a vendor to sell weapons/items, scrolling acts weird. Simple fix is to change back to the buy tab then back to the sell tab.

Second, Borderlands 2 crashed after roughly 13 hours of playing. I'm attributing this to the Steam update since the notification screen was on after ALT+F4ing the game.

Besides those two minor issues I've been quite impressed with the game overall. The AI is a definite improvement over BL1. Loot finds coincide with my experience from BL1, though, a bit better. Graphics-wise I am able to run in windowed mode (max screen with taskbar showing), settings at max, PhysX set to High, with a few tweeks applied from nVidia's website which a member posted the link earlier in this thread.

This game handles alt-tabs better than any game I've ever played.

Wot. The first thing I noticed about this was how shitty alt-tabbing was, as bad as Skyrim and even almost as bad as Source-engine games. The first time I alt-tabbed I was forced to end the process because I couldn't get back in, and since then I have to do that shitty skyrim trick where you tab back in, then tab out again, then back in before it expands from the taskbar.

Also thanks for the heads-up on the willowengine tweak for PhysX, runs perfectly and looks great.

Neither my son or I have had any issues with alt+tab

That's funny, a lot of people have been complaining about a framerate drop to 1 FPS that stays until you restart the game if you alt-tab. I haven't seen that personally but I do know that if I alt-tab I will get a huge framerate drop (down to 15-20 maybe) for a little bit after going back into the game, but it stabilizes after a minute or so.

Yeah, I get a slideshow for about 5 seconds after alt-tabbing back in. It always seems to come back fine, but just feels like it's on the brink of a crash.

Found out what it is (not the alt-tabbing issues, but the frame drop when you tab back in). Since I enabled PhysX it falls apart when I alt-tab and I get the 4-5fps drop until I restart the game. Before then I didn't have an issue.

Alt-Tab is really good for me. There is texture pop-in when you return to game, but that was the same in Borderlands 1. It works better than Skyrim!

Try running in windowed full screen.

You'll never have alt-tabbing issues again.

Fair warning to all:

Do not use the Ignore Quest feature or the Sort Quest feature , they eventually cause your save file to get kinda bugged.
The symptom being checkpoint lag.
When i go past a checkpoint i get a 1 second freeze. Some people that have used the Ignore/Sort feature for a while have save files that are beyond 200kb which gives them a good 3-5 second freeze per checkpoint, i heard excessive 400+ kb and your game will crash on zoning. Mine is currently at ~60kb, Gearbox knows about this bug and are trying to fix it.

Gearbox found the problem:
We have isolated the issue and will be deploying an update as soon as we are able to for PC.

Consoles have a different process regarding updates so we will get this out as soon as possible for those users. We will keep you updated on that front. Thanks.

I'm level 31, Just finished the first playthrough and my save file is only 19k. Hopefully they fix it before I start having the problem.

Confirmed. It's a tough mutha depending upon the weapons a player currently owns. Even though I have found better weapons the challenge of getting through each main or side mission has been strenuous.

holy crap.... after the sanctuary debacle the difficult ramps WAY the hell up....

holy crap.... after the sanctuary debacle the difficult ramps WAY the hell up....

Like how?

The most difficulty spike I ever had was with that boss in creature containment unit arena thingy, but then again, I had a 4000 dmg RPG that I used at point blank range.

Honestly, the difficulty level here are actually pretty linear... if you hold on to a favorite weapon for a bit too long, then yes, it becomes harder.

You could say that because I'm a sniper (Zer0) and have basically coasted through the game by headshots and crit hits, I may have it easier than other characters (since sniper crit hits are usually 1 hit kill shots, even when uncloaked), and you'd be right.

I'll be trying out other characters after I finish this playthrough.

it just got to the point where everything is killing me quickly and I am not being able to kill them without lots of ammo usage.

I am level 20, enemies are 17 to 21. i hadn't this much trouble anywhere else.

the right kind of shield to fit your playstyle helps too. I found the best all purpose type to be the adaptive shields that change resistance to your last damage taken, it reduces an absurd amount of incoming damage compared to the generic ones. look for a decent capacity, high recharge rate and low delay, usually the drops balance so that the better the rates the lower the cap. then nova/spike shields for melee/run and gun maximum health builds, and turtle shields for those who like to stay at range.

found one shield at level 11, recharge rate was 25% higher than the cap lol. But the cap was 1/3 of other shields at the same levels. SO basicly it instantly recharged if you could get out of fire for 1-2 seconds but went down easily.

Bingo.

I use a turtle shield -- it's quite neat when you have more shield than life and thus, can stand to a lot of abuse (so long the shield is up). But you better have a shotty or high damage RPG handy for the melee dudes, because when they get near you, they can halve your shields in 1 hit.

hell yea it does. I hit a brick wall for awhile until i was well over level and had gotten much better guns. I was breezing through fairly well until a certain point where you needed to find a way into a big ass pipe and then I couldn't do shit except die over and over in that area.

I'm on L8 with my gunzerker, got to Sanctuary. I've taken my first mission, that of killing the assassins. It says it's a L8 mission but I keep dying when the big fanatic shows up in the dam.

And PhysX is cool.

Me and two other lvl 33 people fought
Terramorphous
tonight. We didn't even dent him.

If anyone is having problems with fps drops and low GPU usage, try this:

Go to 'Video Options' > 'Window Mode' and change it from 'Fullscreen' to 'Fullscreen Windowed'

It worked for me :) Smooth gameplay and ~90% GPU utilization (where before it had 30 fps at random and 60% GPU utilization).

Thanks for posting this. I had them off in BL1... was waiting for someone to figure out how to do it in BL2.

Yeah I think the outlines seemed much thicker and uglier in BL1, they're not nearly as bad in BL2, but I may still try it out.

Is there any difference, other then performance, if you run it on a system with an n-vidia GPU and on another with an AMD GPU assuming all the settings, including the PhysX level?

My rig is:

i7-930 @ 3.4 GHz
6GB RAM
Radeon HD 5970 2GB
256GB Crucial SSD
Win 7 premium

But I'm able to play BL2 at 1920x1080 with all the graphics on high, AA on 8X and PhysX on medium (haven't tried high yet, but I will this weekend) and the game is completely playable and I've never seen even a hint of framerate dropping low enough to be noticable.

Checked my settings last night and I actually already had the PhysX set to high and the AA to 16X with everything set to high and the draw distance to very high and haven't noticed a single slowdown.

On a side note, finally had my first alt+tab issue last night just as the tried to go back into game to put in the shift code that was tweeted for 5 gold keys. Figures! :(

Turning the thick black lines off looks much better IMO.

Though the black lines are part of the visual profile of Borderlands and belongs very much to this universe, I could not help surrender to this tweak. It just looks great without the lines. It is much less stressful for the eyes and as a bonus you get a very small performance bump. Thanks man!

I have the best shield I have found. into the 900s with some other junk attached. I've got a lot of basass point in shield stuff and my class item deals with shields as well but it drops like a rock at the point where I am.

I the guns I have, have also outlived their usefulness but unless I can find better ones, they are best things and I've been using elemental stuff in my 3 open slots so Ican at least switch to something that is useful against the enemies I am fighting.

Specially those weird worm like enemies with the tenticals. They rape me in seconds. I don't even have time to fight one unless it is long range and then it take so many rounds to kill one.

That big boss one in the hyperion depot place I died 6 times in row with in like a minute or two until I happen to get lucky and find a random place it couldn't hurt me and I could just sniper the critical spot until it died.

I am going to just grind away until I can get to level 22 or 23 I think. I don't have any side missions opens either to just go back and do.

Turning the thick black lines off looks much better IMO.

I debated this as well and went back and forth with it but without the lines it just seems to be missing something.

i dont really have any friends to play it with.. does the game have any options to be paired with random people to play with instead of premade games with people you know and have to invite? Or On PC or 360 can u just auto join up with random people you dont know like diablo 3?

What platform are you on? On the PC in the start menu there is an option (can't recall the terminology) but matchup or something where you can browse other games and see stats and pings.

In my opinion BL2 is meant to be played with several people! It's way harder, the enemies get stronger, but the loot is amazing and it's just chaos at it's best. Definitely try it out.

A couple minuses are some people just try grab all the loot/ammo and you can hardly keep up, so if this is the case just find another server. Most people tend to share the loot and are fun to play with so don't let this deter you!

has anyone tried to screenshot the bar-code thing on the Moxxi Pizza boxes and then scan it with thier phone?
