The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

I think you have access to it by, like, level 6'ish? as soon as you can enter the first major town.

I am interested in these results, too!!

I literally just walked into Sanctuary last night right as I was done for the night. I shall now search for these pizza boxes tonight.

I scanned one of them and it said Nick Wilson Ho Ho

Same old easter egg I guess. But cool none the less.

Tried to join a friend last night and it bugged. Got some nice reasonably high-res HUD-less shots out of it though: http://imgur.com/a/XcD7g

I love those QR codes things too. "Got loads of disposable income, enough to spunk on a flashy smartphone? Then you're entitled to loads of desirable in-game freebies as well, boyo!".

There is a setting in the .ini too if you want to remove the HUD from screenshots too BTW. Not ideal for actual playing though obviously.

the thrasher enemies are the worst....critical spot is hard to hit. the stupid tenticals come at you from miles away and they take me from full shield/health to no shield and like 50 health in one go even though they are 3 or 4 levels behind me.

Corrosive caverns were just a plain old bitch and a half. Died over 10 times just trying to do the missions I had there.

So apparently there was an update today (minor fixes regarding checkpoint lag or something) and now, after updating, the game crashes before I even get to the intro movies.

EDIT: Got it to run by Verifying File Cache, but just played for a little while (under an hour) and then the game crashed for no reason with some long error list of files. Wtf?

Also, the launcher is super laggy now. Like when you start it I get this crazy mouse freezing/stutter. I think they fucked something up in the latest patch...

I got some lag and stuff today, after the patch. It seemed to right itself after 5 or so minutes of play. It was disappointing though.

I have been getting these random little pauses every once in a while, not sure why they started or whats causing them.

I got 2 complete freezes of the game today after the patch. Both times I had to kill borderlands with task manager.

I managed to play for another hour or so and no crash, but something definitely has changed with this latest patch...not for the better.

try using "-NoLauncher" on the launch options in Steam

I was farming for a lv50 The Bee in pt2.5 to replace my old lv46 pt2 The Bee (which replaced my old level 27 pt1 The Bee), but i definitely did not expect such good rolls (imo) to appear.
The jump in item stats from ~45 to 50 is really big

What can i say... i'm a The Bee lover

There are level ~27 versions, ~47 versions and 50 versions, for play-trough 1, 2 , and 2.5 respectively

Get to the quest "This Just In" (quest is around the time you get ready to do the final mission) , kill the guy (Hunter Helliquist) to finish the quest. Turn it in back in Sanctuary, and then return to the area and kill him endlessly till it drops. (Tip: Once you kill him and he doesn't drop it, just save & quit, then resume and you will be back in the zone , then grab a ride and return to the radio station. Warning: Could take hours of farming!! or minutes.

holy crap.... I haven't seen a shield over 1000 yet on play through one and I'm level 23 or 24. Wonder what bosses I could farm for possible cool stuff.

also how are you guys on play through 2.5 already??

We go hardcore.

Me and my friends tore up playthrough 1, taking our time on playthrough 2. Also there's 45K+ shields from Terramorphius.

What is the point in playing this hardcore? Someone fill me in on what I'm missing if I don't rush through the game like a race car at Nordschleife?

I find the true vault hunter mode more fun, since its just the whole game but more challenging.
I usually just blow through the first play through, and take my time on the second. plus you need to do it so you can lvl up to 50 so you and take on the raid boss

i play this ''hardcore'' more than any other game i played since... gasp.... minecraft!

Many people, including myself, live for endgame content. I blew through most of the content too. I don't care too much about gear because it gets replaced so quickly. I did it with D3, and am doing it with TL2 and somewhat bl2. It's not a right or wrong style of gameplay it's whatever floats your boat.

I'm finding playthrough 2 much more enjoyable. ThIngs are hard to kill, and it's much more fun in the early story to already use sniper rifles than slow ass 4 second reload assault rifles because that's all I could find.

I don't think I'm missing any content, it's all there in playthrough 2( and more!)

Well, millions of people disagree with you, so I guess the  is on you.

:p

Millions of people watch jersey shore, eat at McDonald's, and are morbidly obese. Using a number of how many people like what you like just makes you a tool because you can't even come up for an argument why you do or do not like something.

Back on topic, did you guys hear about "girlfriend mode" with the upcoming mechomancer class. It's designed to be the easiest spec to play so that those who suck at fps can still enjoy the game. The Internet mobs went crazy about the comment calling it completely sexist.

Ha! That's pretty funny, I have to say.

Just finished my first playthrough (lvl 34 completing); got my first orange drop and it was totally crap. :( Not only was the shotgun less damage than the one I already, it was basically a flak cannon that fills up a huge area with tiny bursts of explosives. Cool effect, but completely useless for, ya know, actually killing stuff.

Now that I'm on playthrough 2, "True Vault Hunter Mode", holy crap is it more difficult. Also, for those of you wondering why you have so much money and nothing to spend it on - in playthrough 2 at level 34-35 right now a good shield upgrade is ~$45k. And each slot machine costs about $3.2k. That being said, you still make a huge amount of money with gun drops of $1k minimum, usually around $4-6k.

Dying and losing $25k a pop really sucks though, and it happens fairly often; even with a 3400 dmg sniper rifle, I can't 1 shot kill all the normal mobs anymore, except when I'm ghosting.

And I stupidly tried to solo Terramorphius at level 34, just to see what he's about...holy crap that's going to be hard, a 20k rocket launcher was just giving him love taps.

*sigh*
explains why it doesn't live up to its spec numbers, just doesn't kill as well as it should. guess i have to check ALL the shottys now

AFAIK there is only one other gun that does that, which is the Lechaux SMG, and it spreads in the pattern of a bull.

HILARIOUS. People need to relax, it's a joke.

My GF hardly ever plays FPS games (I think the only other one she's played is Skyrim and that's not exactly a shooter...maybe Goldeneye) but we are playing co-op BL2 and she's doing just fine.

You guys should've notice this by now... girls who don't usually play games are suddenly into games when it doesn't look "real". I'm pretty sure if you kept Borderland identical, but changed the graphics to resemble the CoD or BF3, girls won't be playing it.

Could it be something in the "realism"?

Interesting theory except I've run into plenty of girl gamers in those games too that, frankly, handed me my ass. ;)

The Octo does it too. It shoots a pattern that would be 9 pellets in a square, except the bottom left is missing. As the shot goes out, the pellets come together at some point. It was actually pretty deadly for short/medium range encounters. Also, it explodes when you reload and reforms in your hand.

The only people upset were the sissy boyfriends and future hopefuls of said girlfriends that wanted to appear tough, yet compassionate, in order to possibly have a chance of "getting some" with the girl in question at an undisclosed point in the future.*

* I'm married so I'm entitled to this observation, as I'm out of the pool of people who give a shit any longer.

I'm not married, and I still agree.

Im having huge framerate issues. Im on a gtx460. But with my settings i was getting 30fps solid with some dips.

Now i cant even play it, its hung @ 10 fps and i didnt change anything.

edit: And no im not alt tabbin out.

My GF hardly ever plays FPS games (I think the only other one she's played is Skyrim and that's not exactly a shooter...maybe Goldeneye) but we are playing co-op BL2 and she's doing just fine.

I rolled the dice and picked up a copy of BL2 for my wife last week. She agreed to "try it out" and play coop with me for a few hours; now she's hooked. She's never really played any FPS games before and was mostly just a Sims or point and click adventure gamer but she's caught on quickly. I started her off with a sniper rifle, which she loves, but she's gradually moving more towards the shotgun and rocket launcher.

I would agree however that if the game was more realistic looking she would probably be less apt to try it. I think this is simply because it would be more difficult to identify targets/objects/locations, and consequently, more confusing to learn. Since there's not much to really "learn" about playing BL it's much easier to jump in and enjoy the environment and story.

I think it's a matter of the game being silly and funny, but also because there's a team effort in place, so she probably feels, like anyone, as part of a team that's necessary to accomplish stuff.

Yeah, well one night mine (somewhat buzzed, lol) confessed she wanted to be a "real gamer" and not just play The Sims or point-and-click games (like Machinarium and such). So I got her going on Skyrim and she got absolutely addicted to it. She played it more than me and I put almost 100 hours into it.

It took me awhile but I got her to try the first Borderlands just before the second one came out, and it seemed like she liked it enough that I picked up BL2 on a pre-order for her. We've played it to about level 15 or so so far, and she likes it better than the first one.

Now, though, she is back on the Skyrim and I'm having a hard time trying to get her to play BL2 again. I want to progress in the story but she doesn't want me to get "too far ahead" of our co-op game. Ugghh...

So I found this:

Disable Black Outline Shader
You know that big black outline that surrounds most objects and gives them a more cartoonish look? It’s cool, but removing it is another way you can tone down the graphical requirements of Borderlands 2 to get it to run better.

In WillowEngine.ini, find this line:

DefaultPostProcessName=WillowEngineMaterials.WillowScenePostProcess

To turn off the shader, you need to make adjustments to the line — namely, remove both instances of the word “Willow,” so it looks like this:

DefaultPostProcessName=EngineMaterials.ScenePostProcess

Disable Cel Shading

In WillowEngine.ini, find the same line as above:

DefaultPostProcessName=WillowEngineMaterials.WillowScenePostProcess

and change it to:

DefaultPostProcessName=WillowEngineMaterials.RyanScenePostProcess

That will remove the black outline shader as above, and also disable the cel shading effect to make the graphics slightly more realistic and add more contrast on surfaces. You’ll also get a pretty marked performance boost, because these shaders take a fair amount of processing power
here: http://www.gamefront.com/how-to-improve-borderlands-2-with-ini-file-tweaks/

and noticed that they have separate tweaks. I've only taken off the black outline per their first tweak and kinda like how it looks. What will the second one do? I'm a little confused on the cel-shading aspect for some reason.
