The Official Borderlands 2 Thread

Oh man, it's like the Diablo 3 thread all over again.

Man I know, and I really don't want to go down that road, but I'm starting to get that vibe. Poor drops (at least for me, I'm actually using white weapons at lvl 20), difficulty level that ramps up like a brick wall..*sigh*

I was using zero, and I just gave up on him, SP with him is just brutal. I started over with the commando and things are going much, much smoother now. We'll see how it goes.

Just keep looking. I haven't found a single orange weapon either and I'm level 18.

Still having a blast sniping everyone from afar as Zer0. He's quite fun in SP if you know how to use him.

I haven't been getting a ton of awesome drops either, but I've found a fair amount of blues and one orange (the Cradle shield, which is kinda cool but the extremely low capacity kinda kills it). I find a ton of good sniper rifles but as a Commando I am using assault rifles and shotguns mostly. Decent assault rifles and ammo seem to be hard to find.

I almost think rare/orange drops might be bugged on PC, because I see a LOT of people getting oranges on the 360 at like, level 8.

Got a really awesome blue shotgun called the "Thre Dog" or something like that...rapes up-close.

One question: When I join my GF's game (she is the Siren) it seems like we get a TON of sniper, SMG, and pistol ammo (all weapons she uses) but I find almost no assault rifle ammo. Are the ammo spawns related to the host?

I have absolutely no idea. Theoretically speaking, drop rates should be completely uniform and character/people/computer agnostic.

the gun drops flat out suck. used to be you could replace a core gun every couple of levels or so. now it takes much longer. I have been trying to complete the campaign before messing with the side missions. And the red crates, where they hell are they? Some places only have a shit white box crate, other places, a single auto trunk. Were is something like old haven?

As for the weapons themselves, they function much better. The rocket launchers and explosive guns actually have area of effect, The slag guns, I am not exactly sure what they are. Maybe they allow for additional damage?

Anyway the only thing making this manageable was a sniper gun with 180% critical hits. It can take out robots by hitting their red eye. A definite improvement.

What level are you compared to him? You might have to level up some and come back later. Or you could try to lure him to your vehicle and rocket him down.

try shooting towards the feet and using melee.. seemed to work for me

I managed to beat him by finally getting him distracted by my turret (I think he got stuck or something because usually he had just killed it in two hits) and shotgunned him in the back until he died. Took me like 4-5 deaths before I finally managed to kill him. Oh, and whoever was saying that dying and then going back to a boss made them keep the decreased health, that is BS. Every time I went back to him he was at full health and shields again, and had reset to his "starting" point.

The slags are effect enhancer -- basically doubles your damage from a normal/elemental weapons. Shoot the baddie with a slag gun, then switch to a different weapon and you'll see they'll be far easier to take down.

If you're Zer0, it's fairly easy to just go through the whole game as a sniper and have a shotgun for the close range people. All I did was to cloak and headshot the baddies with badass prefix for one shot one kill, and regular critical hits for the rest of the dudes.

Anyone else find the antlion things AI to be broken? I just circle strafe around them and melee them to death and they can't hurt you at all.

The sheild guys you need to get up in their face so they swing the sheild then blast away.

I also died at least 4 times are Dr Mercy because of the stupid grenades that would kill me from full health and sheild instantly.

I don't understand all this hate for Dr. Mercy... he was among the easiest boss I had.

I was Zer0. All I did was to stay close to him, spam my holo, and simply do crit hit on his head with my sniper until he died.

I dont get complaints about guns or difficulty. I get too many good and varied guns. and the difficulty of enemies seems to be fixed, so just come back later if it is too difficult. it says right on the quest log that each quest has a level and a difficulty.

It's considerably more difficult if you're playing someone else.

Does anyone think it is worthwhile to complete the original Borderlands at least once before starting the second? I have both (including all the expansions for BL1), but I never finished the first one. If anyone else is interested in playing through the original, let me know!

Honestly, unless you really want to see the original storyline (which is nearly nonexistant and you could can watch the boss/ending cutscenes on youtube) there's no reason to play the original first. BL2 is better in nearly every way.

On the other side, I would recommend playing through borderland 1 once to see how the story goes... Borderland 2 makes a lot of references to characters and events in borderland 1, and personally, it makes it that little bit more fun.

BL2 makes tons of references to a lot of things in BL1, characters, events, areas, echo devices. BL1 doesn't have much of a story, but all the other stuff had its own thing and in BL2 it makes me smile when playing because they reference so much stuff from the first one, since I explore every nook and cranny I got a lot of enjoyment out of that seeing as things mentioned in BL2 about BL1 a person who just did the main story line in BL1 and skipped everything else is definitely missing out and not knowing it.

This is the difference between good games and great games. Even with good games it can sometimes feel like work. Like Max Payne 3, that I liked for what it was (not a Max Payne game). Borderlands 2 on the other hand just rips time away from me. Not once I have felt that I was "working" on playing a game. I just get sucked into one moment after another. Full on bliss and awesomeness.

Gearbox did a great job on the technical aspect too. Zero issues from day one, everything flawless here. I do get heavy encounter fps dips, but that is expected with that much physics being calculated along with everything else. Nothing that breaks the game immersion for me though.

My Gunzerker has a classmod that gives everybody regenerating ammo which is pretty nice. Sniper rifle ammo recharges a little slow, and if rocket launcher ammo recharges it is incredibly slow. It only works on whatever weapon is currently equipped too.

I just got this at lvl 20, 19 hours in, it's a 1.3% Mod and just essential for co-op now.

I seriously hope they fix the texture streaming in the first patch. It is WAY worse than BL1, which was already pretty bad at times.

EDIT2: Possible texture streaming fix/improvement. Gonna try it when I get home.

http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showpost.php?p=2771836&postcount=68

I have no texture streaming issues here, never had and I am absolutely intolerant to this. Using a 660Ti OC.

Just picked this up tonight. Pretty sweet game so far. I'm only lvl 7 at the moment. Anything I should be aware of? finally starting to figure out the whole inventory thing.

Like many already talked about, the slot machines in Sanctuary at Moxxi's. I got an incredible rocketlauncher at level 13 - 939 x 3 dmg. It still takes out just about everything in a few shots. Just not that many rockets in my SDU yet, 18 I think.

Yeah, the FXAA is not super great in this. I still notice a lot of aliasing, probably accentuated by the black outlines.

It is abhorrent. Smudgefest.

I have two other minor complaints....The death animation...wtf...in BL1 you died, you got that tunnel screen and boom, alive and running.

Now you watch that stupid materialization thing which seems to take forever.

The black market...why did they need to have two types of currency? does the black market get used for anything but the ammo upgrades and such? quite annoying.

This is most certainly a lot harder than BL1

Loving it though.

Good point about the black market currency. Mostly it was to have a place with purple light and a guy relentlessly hammering the facade for an improved auditory experience.

I find the difficultly level to be about the same as BL1, but I am playing co-op with a friend...and have great aim hehe

There is a way to avoid watching a lot of that long death animation ;)

happens to everyone

Texture pop-in do NOT happen to everyone, just to be clear. Not on my 660 Ti, not on my friends 580.

I think they wanted to avoid New Haven farming. There sure isn't a lot of loot, even in co-op, but that might be my friend the Siren who ninja loots just about EVERYTHING for himself, then he hands down his old gear to me.. great feeling lol Plus he rushes like we are on a schedule and late for something all the time, different story.

I do want your sniper, that sounds sick! What is the base dmg? I have a Jakobs "vanilla" 238 dmg. high accuracy, non elemental, but it does a good job. How far are you?

So happy to finally have rocket launchers make sense. I use it all the time now for my Zerker.

I also died at least 4 times are Dr Mercy because of the stupid grenades that would kill me from full health and sheild instantly.

hehe Dr. Mercy was my first death, those damn nades of his did the job here as well :p

Honestly Borderlands is a great game. Play it, could be difficult to go back in time, but there are still things in BL1 that is better implemented.. dismemberment to mention one critically fun aspect :D ..also there is a ton of great humor to feast on in BL1.

Yeah the texture streaming isn't an issue for me either, on an AMD 7970.

I've found that I can't open containers "rapid-fire" anymore. In the first game I could strafe a row of lockers and have them all open in one quick pass. Now it seems to be much more picky about where your crosshair is aiming.

On drop rates, I'm lv 19 and have found my fair share of purples and blues. I've picked up two orange items, both were grenades which have some pretty awesome effects. I'm assuming there will be a new version of Crawmerax for this game which will shower high-level characters with plenty of rare loot, so I'm content with how things are progressing. I remember in the first game that, once I got a nice Pestilent Defiler, I'd basically become a one-trick-pony since that gun made taking out enemies so easy. I'm glad I haven't found it's equivalent yet, my arsenal hasn't stayed the same for more than a few missions.

Bought this game several days ago, very pleased with it. At least this game is not your generic FPS CoD wannabe bullshit, had enough of that crap already. Works well on my rig and getting 80FPS+ on my setup at 1440p at max settings.

The happens to everyone was how people burn their gold key without realizing it. There is another slot machine where you meet brick, that is how far I am. My sniper base damage is 430 pts.

So at this point what kind of tweaks are people doing with this game with success?

So I did some testing last night, but it was late and I don't really remember.

Using the SMAA injector I lose about 20fps (v-sync off) but it looks good. It also seems like that adds lag/choppiness. This is with v-sync off so it doesn't really dip that far, avg would be 90-100 I'd say, dips into the 70s - 80s.

I've been saying how my fps will only dip to the 50s (v-sync on), yet the game will not be smooth. I think turning off the injector fixes this but I'll test it again today. Personally if my fps is anywhere about 40 it should seem pretty smooth.

Using V-sync in-game didn't seem to work, my fps was still going over 60, not sure what happened there.

I tried using The nvidia inspector to use better AA, but the performance hit was too much.

I used the ini tweak to take away the streaming, which fixes all the loot boxes/chests, but wondering if it affects performance in other ways (High-end PC with SSD though).

I saw a tweet post that said Nvidia was aware of some framerate issues and was working to fix them. I'll try to find it and post it.

I really wished they had at least given us the option to turn respawning already beaten enemies off. Respawns suck in this game and it's getting a tad bit annoying.

even regular spawning is annoying at times. I have literally watched them spawn right out the blue and that sort of ruins the immersion.

i agree. it makes the game harder, but does take away from the emersion

Alright, setting the Physx in the Nvidia Control panel to my GPU instead of auto-detect seems to have helped, but I still dip into the 30's and 40's when I don't believe I should.

I could not find that tweet about the nvidia driver problem though. But I expect we'll be seeing patches and Gearbox fixes soon.

A lot of people are reporting issues when running Physx, even with a 2nd GPU dedicated to it. One guy on the Gearbox forums said he had 2 GTX 680s, one for Physx only and he still had problems.

I got killed a bunch of times by Dr. Mercy...he kept annoying killing my Sabre Turret in like 2 hits and then spamming homing grenades.

Those fucking full-body shields are cheap as hell. Is there any way to destroy them?

The siren's ability makes these shielded guys into clowns. Otherwise explosive weapons like the Torgue rifles do a good job.

I also got super lucky around level 8 with a grenade mod that's lasted me forever, an orange/legendary that explodes into a cluster of nine other grenades - each of which seemingly explodes into three or four more. You can basically dump one of those in an area and then run away before you end up doing yourself in.

Just so you know for future, ,"tad" and "bit" mean the same thing so you only need use one or the other, otherwise you're basically saying it's a bit bit annoying. :p

i love this game. so much. i never even played the first one for some reason, but i'll have to go back and finish it now.

my only complaint is that sometimes the quests get bugged out. triggers don't work, get stuck in that arena deal there all the time in between rounds. that's happened to me at least five times. i'll blame most of it on me being buzzed and not paying attention.. like last night i went to the animal preserve for the main questline and jumped around on the mountains to get inside of the damn place. got all the way through it to find a crucial door wouldn't open.

oh, i had to go have a discussion with that dude on top of the mountain over there before the switches work? alright..

also, this rock is extremely questionable.

Somewhat related to that picture, I was doing the quest to rename the beasts in the first area and my 3 year old happened to be watching TV in the same room. Now he will not stop saying Bonerfart.

Why would it either way?

I've been reading a lot about the online aspects of the game causing lag. Not sure why that is, either, but apparently playing offline improves performance.

Anyone figure out the deal with the lack of dismemberment in the game?

I've only seen it once, with an explosive gun, on a slag who burst into chunks, and that was just one time.

In the first game, heads and bodies exploded even just on crits without an explosive weapon, and explosive weapons basically blew everything into chunks.

Not sure what the deal is, but I see the issue of the lack of dismemberment mentioned around but seemingly no answers that I can find.

Anyone know what's up?

The rumor is that they toned all gore down so that it would be the same in all countries. Which is BS, because they then said it was "uncut everywhere!", when in reality that means less gore than in BL1.

A Gearbox artist said they were going to try to figure out a way to make it better but still have it be "acceptable" in all nations.

Personally I think they should just release an "uncensored" patch for those nations that allow it.

I don't get why they didn't just cut the versoin in Germany and let us have our damn gore like BL1.
Peronslaly I think it it was some bullshit PR move. So they could say "It's uncensored in every region!" when really, they just self-censored their own game and forced the US/UK players not to have the gore they expected compared to BL1.

I allt he time get crit headshots with Zero and I'll see gibs flying, but there is the body lying on the ground with a perfectly intact head.

Here's what's "strange"...

I heard the exact same rumor and inquired about it elsewhere. At the time, I was one of the first people commenting on the issue, and I wasn't happy about it, and I had to quote only two different places at the time that had articles regarding the dev team stating the gore would be toned-down.

The response I received was the the gore filter in-game would take care of the issue, because they could then claim that you could just turn off the gore.

What that insinuated to me, and I think many others, was that dismemberment etc. would still be included in the game, with an option to turn down/off the gore.

But, it seems that they actually did tone it down completely, which is bullshit, as the option to turn off the gore should be enough. I'm 37 years old, I don't want or need my games censored or policed just due to the "delicate sensibilities" of people who make it such a huge issue.

It certainly hasn't ruined the game for me, but it would make it more enjoyable, as I love gore, it's visceral, and funny, as it was in the first Borderlands.

It's part of the reason I love games such as Rise of the Triad or Hitman, or any game with a lot of gore, though Borderlands has it's own aesthetic.

I'm actually extremely disappointed in Gearbox for bending over like that, and catering to the minority, making one "watered-down" version in terms of the gore, just to appease weak-minded idiots.

Eh, anyway... so that's that, then... thought I might have been missing something, but I guess this is the final version. With the exception of one skag I managed to blow into bloody chunks. That must has been a "mishap" of some sort.
