TF2 scout update!

Wow, the servers were all screwed up this weekend. I had super high ping on servers I always play on, and was lagging just horribly. I thought it was me, but everybody was that way, even the mods on the servers were lagging awful. They said it was some kind of server update thats got everything screwed up. Hopefully they'll fix that soon.

Strange, I didn't have any issues playing here in the UK or on Saigns servers in Germany. Typical pings as per normal, 16 - 20ms to UK and 40ms to Deutschland

Hmmmm...I talked to the mods on about 3 servers that I normally play on, all of em said it messed it up.

its still stupid. Scouts are still WAY to overpowered.
stun should not effect ubers, period.
in fact scouts shouldn't have stun at all.

Oh hai, im super fast, I can push you back with my main weapon and knock you in the air, I can become invulnerable by myself without a medic, and I can stun anyone, including ubers.

seriously, how can valve not see this? or they are just trying to expand their market to pre-teens hooked on mountain dew regardless of what it does to everyone else?

They have 125 health and no main weapon that worth a damn at more than about 25ft. They have to be under cover to take the energy drink or they'll be slaughtered, it's effects are quite short lived, and even if they can close the distance to where their main weapon is effective, it's at best even money against any of the combat classes.

They changed the scout, he can participate more in the offense, and isn't just a class to sneak by a steal a point; it's probably still the easiest class to kill (medics will find themselves with a body guard more often than not), and totally ineffective at medium and long distance. They made good scouts more effective, which was needed; and they made a lot more easy targets for heavies and soldiers until the scout newbies get their achievements and move back to their class.

Well said man....I personally don't have a problem with the Scout update. I think it makes the class much more useful in a typical game scenario which can add a new dimension to your team, particularly the offense.

Yeppers. Pretty much the reason I'm still playing heavy and not scout. Scout does not "own" everything. It's still pretty weak, but at least now it has some uses.

Completely agree. 50% of 'I Win' is still 'I Win'. A very poor direction this game has been taken.

QFT. I've been playing scout pretty heavily for the past week and it's much more viable now than before. I'm actually on the leaderboard now. You actually get healed (because you're worth something), and you aren't flying solo all the time anymore because you actually help augment the offense instead of being a lone wolf. BUT you get taken down very quickly if you aren't careful or turn the corner and run head first into a rocket.

You could have 1 health and still be ok because you can stun everyone who run into if you can twitch faster than them, and kill them before the stun wears off. Scout can now make a sentry useless with no skill whatsoever just by using the drink. At least a spy has to maneuver and sneak by people and deal with the engy before sapping. Scout can just walk up, and absorb all the fire while someone else takes down the sentry. Accidentally run around a corner into someone who can kill you, and dont have your stun ready? Use the new "pushback" gun and push the opponent back and yourself away before they can do anything.

If you are not completely owning people with the scout its because you are not good enough with it yet. Come to the server I play on "circle x gaming", and when 2 or 3 *good* scouts are playing on the other team its a nightmare. On a defensive map like dustbowl, they can stop every single uber rush. On the last dustbowl, its almost impossible to get by them.

Scouts were useful before, fast, cap points faster, and could still do decent damage as long as they weren't trying to solo. Other classes get some alternate weapons and such, scouts got WAY too much for one update.

Take away that bullshit stun thing, and they go from overpowered to just a pain in the ass.

 the classis "well u just haven't played good people yet" excuse. chill out. it looks like you need a break from TF2

I will take a break. Hopefully common sense will return and that stupid stun shit will go away. And it not an excuse, its a reality. When you die, spend 30 seconds walking out to the front line, only to get stunned and killed 3 times in a row without being able to do anything about it - how is that fun for anyone but the scout? Why am I playing again?

So you think a medic getting an uber should be an autowin?

I've played with good scouts. And they aren't invincible. They can easily be sniped before a uber rush. They can also be demo'ed as they have no health. A good scout is not a "insta-win" for the defense.

No but it definitely helps. I play goldrush mostly and had a god-awful team one night. I just wasn't caring. So i spend the end of the last stage running from the spawn to the cart hitting baseballs and stunning people - medics, ubers, whatever.

We lost in the end but it definitely helped. Without the stun to stop or greatly hinder the medics/ubers we would've lost a lot quicker.

This is just false.
With the damage reduction, it's very hard to kill a healthy demo or soldier with a single stun, and about impossible to do it to a heavy unless you get a crit. To say nothing of the fact that you can't really stun more than one person at a time so unless you're constantly wandering off by yourself in a team based shooter the scout won't have a free pass to run up and take two or three shots at you while you're stunned.

Scout can now make a sentry useless with no skill whatsoever just by using the drink. At least a spy has to maneuver and sneak by people and deal with the engy before sapping. Scout can just walk up, and absorb all the fire while someone else takes down the sentry.

The counter to the energy drink is the pause before you activate the ability. If you're not all hiding behind the sentry defense, the support won't have enough time to deal with you and take advantage of the scout drawing fire.

Accidentally run around a corner into someone who can kill you, and dont have your stun ready? Use the new "pushback" gun and push the opponent back and yourself away before they can do anything.

the pushback is hardly a protection, it doesn't knock anyone out of range; and for the soldier and demo is probably better than being right up against scout to minimize splash damage. The push back is handy to clear a path or have some occasional fun with fall damage; but it's not going to reliably save your ass.

Wow, in all my hours of playing it's amazing I've not run into a good scout.

The uber thing is annoying, no doubt. With the number of people still playing scout, probably more disruptive than it should be. It's a lot more flexible than the demo man's ability to stop and uber because it takes less time to set on the fly and works just as well when you can run them down a choke point. If it were a 50% chance of stunning on an uber, that would bring it a lot more inline with what the demo can do. (the stun is needed to allow scouts to close the gap between them and enemies in open areas, without they'll loose a straight up fight every time)

No, pyro blast and demo stickies can blow them back, but NOT make them helpless. See the difference? Sniping a scout? I guess if the scout is a moron and just sitting there waiting to get shot.

Or you have good snipers... ?

Although I did bonk a sniper with a ball from across the last part of stage2 of goldrush. (Spawn to the building on the back right corner)

Then I just plinked him with my pistol, he never died but it was hilarious..

It's a game... Valve will make it balanced... even though for some reason they feel it necessary to keep nerfing the Demo... they really hate the darkie

i am just glad to see servers are going back to normal, like with any release, everyone went to scout, got the achievments and now you may see 2-3 scouts at most

You must really suck then. Since the scout update, I have been stunned a total of 3 times out of 80 hours logged on.

I play on circlexgaming, and have seen some pretty good scouts on that server.
Definitely have not found them to be OP'ed yet, as a demonman (my fav class) I feel like I still blow them apart.

I think no matter how valve patches/updates classes, people will endlessly bitch regardless. I find it easiest not to read their forums, and just enjoy the game for what it is.

you def can.... i did a little experiment since the scout update, and went demo... was able to blast apart even the best scouts effortlessly...

even with all the nerfs, the demo still rules all....

I don't know what I'm doing wrong then. If a scout manages to get close to me the only way I'm getting out alive is if I land a couple of bottle shots. A close in nade almost always kills us both. :(

well if you're a true azn and you're not #1, then you're a failure

99% of everyone I play is terrible compared to my standards. I'm ranked top 10 out of 200,000 people on Lotus Clan Servers.

Ooh top 10 on the Lotus Clan 32 player clusterfuck-fests, you must be astounding. And that's forgetting the fact that rankings reflect time spent on a server to a far greater degree than individual ability.

Take a class in math and we'll talk. The more skill points you have, the more points you lose when you die to someone. Unless you have a KDR of 10+ , everyone's skill level asymptotes. It does not linearly continue to grow with time unless of course you improve.

I am pretty astounding, thanks for the complement.

lol damn, now i want to play against you out of curiosity... steam id?

It's funny, you have 600+ hours playing and only 100,000 points, i have about 200 hours and have ~50,000 (few thousand from achievement whoring, but you're guilty of that too :p )

So yea, you are pretty amazing

LOL at people talking ranks in TF2. In a game where you can randomly one shot people, I don't think ranks matter much.

It's more than just randomly one shotting people. As previously pointed out, every time you die, you lose skill points and every time you kill someone you gain skill points.
