Street Fighter 6

Yeah i'm that guy, i'm annoyed I am still waiting on Sagat. Pretty much stopped playing after first few months waiting on the rumors. Just never have understood why he gets relegated.

Alex feels like an odd choice. He isn't popular and the core of his design is basically flawed. It's why he has full-on sucked in every game he has been in. They had to buff him like a dozen times to even make him viable by the end of SF5's lifespan. Seems futile to do that again. His kit is a bunch of unreliable moves that don't work together. They're just random. The only way he'll ever be worth a damn is if they make his grab vacuum style with no pre-animation. They've shown 0 desire to do that, so I bet he ends up sucking again.

I think whatever version I originally bought seems to have included the Year 2 pass. I was glancing at Steam to see how much it was and it's telling me it's already in my library. I won't argue.

Sagat looks pretty bad ass in SF6. Love the different clinch attacks. Kind of interesting that they mostly show him rushing people down and playing a very up-close oriented game. I get that's what SF6 tends to play like, but Sagat is all about that range management. He seems to have all of his core distance-making attacks.

EDIT: Apparently one interesting change is that you no longer have access to 3 different speeds of high/low tiger shots. You perform low tiger shots with light punch and high tiger shots with medium and heavy. Basically, you aren't able to throw super slow high tigers or super quick low tigers. Not sure that matters in the world of SF6, but it's at least worth noting.

My old ass stayed up super late watching EVO. Pretty cool to see MenaRD ignore the tiers and meta that everyone else was following to completely wreck everyone with Blanka. Even JP was a welcome sight after seeing like 500 Mai and Cammy matches. It makes me wonder what SF6 would look like if throws weren't repeatable over and over. I'd estimate 70% of the moves landed in top 8 were normal grabs. At a certain point watching speedy characters throw/strike mixup endlessly gets kinda tired. It also makes me wish Cammy had some kind of other grab just for the sake of variety, too.

Sagat definitely does damage. It'll be interesting to see where he falls within the meta since he's not particularly fast. SF6 revolves around speed and closing distance more than ever. I could see him being one of those characters that struggles for most of a round only to be able to turn things around in a hurry. It's wild to think about it, but he seems like Marisa with an actual fireball rather than that projectile'ish punch.

Watched Evo. Like the direction the game is going style wise and sagat looks good. That said, there is just way too many mechanics going on in this game. Drive rush is like the worst mechanic ever I think.

launched SF6 first time in forever just to run through Sagats SP, now time to get into his mechanics and see if he ends up fun in VS.

I don't see SF6 changing much at this point, but I think one solution to SF's meta getting stale is pushback. Too many moves simply don't push back enough, so the matches always boil down to button lockdowns and strike/throw mix-ups in close. If anything ever lands, with no pushback you can link a pile of normals and specials together and stay point blank. Older SF titles didn't have that because moves pushed back more on both hit and block. Most knockdown attacks, throws, and special moves forced the characters back, too. Things reset to neutral more and there were very few easy/free ways back in.

Justin Wong is so good that he doesn't really even train/play seriously anymore. Dude can just roll up to most major SF6 events after streaming SNK vs. Capcom 2 troll attempts for a month and still place. That's all while placing in (or winning) a dozen other undercard games, too.

He's likely the most versatile and enduring fighter of all time.
9 EVO gold wins, over 3 games.

Top 8 in 11 games. Many of his top 8's are also silver and bronze.

And thats just EVO!

I think he absolutely is. He can pick up almost anything and end up world-level at it. The other old-school players like Valle, Choi, Watson, etc. will pop up here and there but they're not consistent like Justin. Either that or you'll have someone like Daigo who is always good, but he only plays one game series. You can make an argument for Sonic Fox, but he's mostly a Neversoft player and he's only been at it for a 1/2 as long. Ditto with Xiaohai and Go1. They're multi-talented, but only for a short period of time. I guess Tokido used to play almost everything, but not so much anymore.

I just bought SF6 for $27 felt like it was a good deal so pulled the trigger. Let's get into it...

Are you guys playing classic or modern controls on PC? Xbox controller?

I use this variation of a style of peripheral tyipcally meant for fighting games, called a "leverless".

I replaced all switches on my "Haute Board", with Epomaker Sea Salt Silent switches. They feel good and are so quiet. Love it.

Found a Switch case I no longer use. Works perfectly for Haute Board and its cable.

This is a product from a brand called "Haute 42". This one is called the "Haute Board".

Haute is well known at this point, for making economically priced leverless, which are feature rich, and good to great quality. *looks like they have a more premium sub-brand now, called Cosmox.

I would say this particular product is great quality. It looks as good or better than similar products on Etsy. Costs 1/3 to 1/4 the price. Uses the same standard, popular arm chip and standard GP2040 firmware used by many leverless. And its very tightly built in all aspects.

I play classic controls just because I have like 30 years of muscle memory built up. Some really good players have started using modern since you can do high-execution things at the touch of button. You can also negate the damage reduction by performing normal move motions using modern. The only real knock on modern is that you lose about 1/2 of your normal moves. With some characters that matters more than others.

Controller-wise, I'm rocking a PS5 pad. I used the analog stick on an Xbox pad for SF4 and SF5. For me, I can do my motions cleaner that way. SF6 is quicker and very heavy on dashing and double-tapping, so playing with an analog stick is tough. The PS5 pad works well, though. I find myself using its analog stick for a few moves here and there, too.

I use classic controls on my ancient Xbox 360 controller :).
