Starfield

It wouldn't surprise me if microsoft shutters them like they did to arkane when ESVI bombs
I think the only people who are looking forward to that game are those who are still coasting on the nostalgia factor from playing skyrim and oblivion. To the rest of us, it's clear that Bethesda has not been able to make a good game in something like a decade now.

I don't know if they'll shutter Bethesda right away if ESVI fails. They might try and clean house first. Hopefully, they fire ReTodd.

I'm curious how the mod scene in general is doing at this point?
No Bethesda game has been worth a shit without the mod community behind it.

Was it though? Maybe as I can't recall anything other than Phantom Liberty coming out last year off the top of my head.
RE4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, System Shock Remake, Diablo IV, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Alan Wake II, RoboCop: Rogue City, Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

No chance in hell it will bomb. People going to run out and buy it on release. Then cry how much it sucks and continue to run out and buy their next turd.

Thanks for the reminder. In that case, Starfield isn't remotely the "second best game of 2023". At least, not as far as I'm concerned.

Phantom Liberty came out too. Though it's a DLC it came with a patch that largely fixed most of the problems with the base game. Plus, Jedi Survivor was excellent aside from the performance issues early on.

I also enjoyed RoboCop Rogue City. I do have a lot of hours in Starfield, but most are spent in the ship builder. Again, mods largely rescue the game as is common with Bethesda titles. Especially given how restrictive the ship builder is by default.

Maybe a better word is under perform.I think after starfield there are going to be a substantially fewer number of preorders for the next bethesda title. If that difference is substantial enough then microsoft would definitely be concerned

I agree that gamers are going to continue to fall for bethesda's marketing and gobble up their slop, and then complain about it after the fact. But also more and more of them finally woken up to the fact that they make bad games.

Really? Couldn't find them on Nexus Mods.
Yes, there are a few of them.

To name a few. You may also need other supporting mods to run those.

Bethesda has been using the same basic game design for almost two decades now. At one time, Bethesda set the standard for RPG's. Now, they have been surpassed by many others in everyway that matters. There are bugs present within Bethesda games that people have complained about for over a decade that are still present in all their games. (The infinite loading bug being one I have experienced myself.) When they do listen to feedback their execution on fixes is poorly done at best. The Rev-8 and Sharted Space are proof of that.

ReTodd believes that Starfield wasn't as well received as their other games because its different than their other games. (It really isn't, unless you count being worse in some ways as a difference.) Their quest designer thinks its the best game that Bethesda ever made. These two statements alone show you how tone deaf and out of touch with their audience Bethesda truly is.

And who can forget moments like this when they were trying to do damage control on player criticism: "When the astronauts went to the moon, they weren't bored!"
I don't think they realize quite how washed up they are

Even though I own the DLC through the edition I bought, I think I might actually skip it altogether.

I just tried it on gamepass, they say HDR is on, but it looks like grayish mess - worst implementation of HDR that I saw - there are no blacks, just grays. How is this acceptable for a AAA title in 2024 is beyond me.

Adjust HDR in settings.

The latest update that just dropped screwed up my game. Paradiso is stripped of vegetation and some resources across most of the planet. Had to go in to a cave to find a water seep. I do not have any graphics mods installed. Bastards.

Update:

Paradiso is the only planet affected. Every other planet I've visited is normal. No idea why it is the only one.

Final achievement from Shattered Space.

Also, broke the arrogant bastards Red Mile record. Amp and other chems helped with that one. :D

And, here we have it. 2000.2 hours into Starfield and still enjoying the game.

Also, I have put together one ugly ship, hence the name Spare Parts, but it is my best all around fighter / cargo / general purpose ship in my fleet. I am planning on re-arranging the right side of the ship to add more crew quarters. Up to 12 crew now but want to hit at least 16 if possible.

Damn. I plan on circling back to the game eventually (I really did like it), but I doubt I'll ever even see 300 hours. I put 750 into Fallout 76 and that gave me an arsenal + camp in the top 1% in the game.

I stopped playing around the end of the game, once I realized how grindy the NG+ was. Might go back some day, but it sounds like the paid mod store really cut the legs out from beneath the free modding community.

Not really. I mean, some really great mods are on there but there are plenty of free ones too. I've got a crap ton of ship mods in my game and I didn't pay for any of them.

We know you're eager for an update, and we truly appreciate your passion for Starfield. The team has been hard at work, and while we're not ready to share specific details just yet, we have a lot of exciting things planned for the game this year that we can't wait to talk about when the time is right.

We’re always listening and taking your feedback to heart. Thanks for being part of this journey with us.

That happened over a decade ago, it's called Elder Scrolls Online.
A different development studio works on ESO. ZeniMax Online Studios was formed specifically to make ESO, and it has been their exclusive purview ever since.
