Starcraft II

I think I went mass thors for that one. Had the Odin take out the nortwest base solo (with SCVs on standby) while the thors took out the eastern base.

Yep. on the initial push, with just the odin, take out the starports of the NW base (probably cannot take out much more without losing ODIN - maybe, I only ran through on brutal). Air units are the thor's weakness. Then after that, it's easy go with mass thors :)

If you run out of SCV, get orbital mules to heal.

the media blitz, you get odin and a choice of 3 bases to attack at the beginning, right?

Attack the left one. Air units are the bane of thors (well, the Odin), and since the strat I followed was all thors, I destroyed the starbases there, first. The rest of the base was nothing but a shell after that, so I ignored it until I had a decent force of thors.

But I went through this on brutal. On hard, you should be able to get away with just the odin+ SCV+ about 4-5 thors.

Well, I always go after the tanks (north base) because they do heavy damage, then hit the starport.

But even 4-5 thors isn't enough... northeast base spawns bc and bunch of tanks, and they kill my thors pretty fast.

Hmm... I'll do another run.

Lol, your advice worked. Odin took out two bases by himself, and I put 4 scv on him. He did northwest and north by himself, and I sent 8 thors to do the northeast... there was like 2 thors left when the final tranmission was completed.

Thanks, lol.

hee hee, have fun! :p

don't forget to kill the sci center in the far lower right for a mission unlock :p

Here'sa great example of ghosts and bio beating Psi storm play and fast expand.

I love both of these players, they're hugely under rated and really damn good.

Well, its pretty obvious that ghosts are an important factor in a match up against HT's. :p. There's many examples of the opposite even with ghosts too heh.

At the end of the day, it really is just who has the better economy to keep churning these units out.

Don't think of it as an example about balance, think of viewing it at a style. I'm not trying to prove anything.

I'm not talking about balance, I'm just saying that you pretty much need to incorporate ghosts in a PvT one way or another if HT's hit the field, T3 > T1 it just makes sense :p.

I just got my ass kicked last night by a mix of blue flame hellions, tanks, thors and a raven against my immortal, stalker, hightemplar, chargelot army. My opponent read my build perfectly and built the exact right units to stop me. I still laid down a billion storms and they didn't do shit.

sounds like you needed more immortals :) i love that unit!

I always build them. I played 2 1v1 last night on steppes. Zerg fast expand so i 4 gate push with robo afterwards. I get a decent attack with zealot/stalker/sentry but he has a few spine crawlers and lots of lings. I hurt him but not enough. his expo was still fine. I remade the army but this time with 2 immortals. Used the immortals to demolish the spine crawlers and he lost the expo. GG after that.

2nd game my opponent was thor rushing. I built 1 gate into robo. I had 3 immortals and some T1. i went outside his base and was about to push in. he sends his units down the ramp with the move command....lost his whole army without firing a shot. he quit right after. He was a 1950 diamond player.

yeah, mech doesn't get affected by storm nearly as much as bio :p

immortols normally do well, inless if he was distracting or attacking with the ravens, too

I def needed more immortals, but I wasn't going for a robo build, I was doing HT/gateway build and this Terran player was able to counter it easily with good tank placement and the right unit mix. What I really should have done is gone carriers and voids with a mothership and some HT support. That would have dominated :D.

Replay please. :D

reminds me of the last game we played together. one day i will win. you just watch your back ;)

His positioning was great (I wasn't nearly aggressive enough that game; my first of the night) and I just got pinned in my base and there wasn't much I could do. I should have dropped some storms better on his harassing hellions, but I didn't. I'll upload the replay tonight and you'll see what I mean.

Heh, yeah I'd love to watch it. I never really watch anybodies replays but I really should, learn a tid bit or two and incorporate it into my own play. =p

EDIT: both on youtube
HDStarcraft just started doing daily ladder sessions from his point of view. Hes a decently high ranked zerg (2500ish Diamond), and his first ladder game alone already helped me a bit :p

PsyStarcraft occasionally does "LIVE" commentaries, when he commentates AS he is playing the game, which helpes quite a bit, too. I don't think he is as good as HDSC, but that's just my take on it.

Have fun! :)

Starcraft 2 is such a beautiful game. The more I play it, the more I love it.

Oh yeah, 153-123 1v1 Zerg Platinum. I had to fight my way through the cheese gauntlet known as Silver and Gold to get here.

I'm perfectly satisfied to be in plat, since being in Diamond would ask too much commitment to maintain that level of play.

Hmm, there's nothing in sc2 that requires commitment to maintain anything. You can cheese your way into diamond and just sit there forever. My friend got diamond in 25 games by doing a 8 marine + 8 scv all in build.

I have a Diamond friend who only 4-gate, and any game lasting more than 10 minutes is likely to hurt him.

I could very well practice only the baneling bust and throw in an occasional 6pool on my way to Diamond, but I've never been about "fishing" for points using just one bait. My emphasis is more geared towards developing a certain sensitivity--a game sense--rather than just winning. Trying to understand the game is to apprieciate it all that much more. That means lots of scouting and having a fluid build order based on the rush distance, racial matchup strategy, and appropriately punishing the opponent for being greedy.

Speaking of greed, most of my deaths comeswhile droning up, you know, getting caught with my pants down trying to get ahead economically, haha.

^ This is why its taking you longer to get into diamond. Trust me, that is EXACTLY what you would want. You are learning to become a reactionary player and not just a mechanical one that is Idra.

Ugh, I have sucked the last couple times I've played. Need to get better this break though.. you all should hit me up for a couple games :)

I'm in Diamond :)

He's probably talking to BusyBeaverHP.

In any case, my point was that Diamond isn't this 'pedestal' or 'higher level of play'. Fact of the matter is that people can win in SC2 with all in builds which makes something like the ladder (something akin to a 'best of 1') not a good measure of absolute skill. It certainly doesn't require commitment since there's no decay. The ladder is basically a cesspool of inactivity. I personally haven't played 1v1 in forever... over 1100 bonus pool.

Yo! We need to play some games again!

@petertew - Sorry that was directed at BusyBeaverHP

What's the bonus pool for? I noticed my league has over 1900 points in it...

You get roughly 1 point every 12 hours. It's just point inflation. When you win you get points and your bonus pool matches those points for extra points. Supposed to encourage people to play and be active... except at this point it has the opposite effect.

Basically in terms of ladder points (which by the way has nothing to do with promotion), players who play just enough to use up their bonus pool are the most efficient. Players who play when they have 0 bonus pool will in theory go nowhere in the long run (assuming they have an established MMR). And obviously players who don't use up their bonus pool are at a disadvantage.

Except at this point with over 1000 bonus pool, it would require a ton of games to use it up. Just makes me not want to do it. Player MMR is established pretty quickly. But bonus pool is what makes the ladder 'dynamic'. Problem is, you're still matched using MMR. So ultimately ladder points are quite meaningless since there's massive inflation to simulate upward movement while the actual meaningful MMR has already stagnated.

Oh... thank you very much :(

So I guess I'll just have an insane amount of points, then

I kinda got sick of ladder after the nth all maruders/all stalkers constant stream from oponents. I always expect them to pull some kind of fast tech switch, but it never happens.

Though this was around the time when it was still possible to get reall early reapers :p

It's not as easy to tech switch when you're terran. Zerg on the other hand is god amongst men when it comes to tech switching. If you have enough econ to re-max your army, you can just waste your 200 army size and counter with another 200/200 army of different composition :p.

Me getting whooped by a platinum (the shame) Terran going mech.

http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/117196-1v1-terran-protoss-lost-temple

Wow, that is a nice game. It just boggled the mind how the terran pretty much decentralized his production buildings and his supply depots all over the map.

I saw where he "read" you perfectly... he had complete control over the xel naga towers. And your army was in perfect view for about 2 minutes -- and he had plenty of time to bring up counters.

So many barracks, factories, starports... wow lol. And so many gateways too.

If I were in this situation, seeing how his army was half way across the map, I would've built a nydus at his original base and sent in heavy hitters to wipe out his production buildings.

Not sure how a protoss player would go about that... I'm primarily a zerg player, and I'm really fond of hit and run tactics. :p
