My roommate has a sub and we're sharing it with another apartment of 4 guys. Divided that many ways, it's like a few bowls of ramen a month.

Find some friends that may be interested... anyone can log in anywhere, simultaneously.

Attention nerds: GSL finals are tomorrow! Anyone else going to be watching TSL Rain unleash a hailstorm of whoopass?

TSL Rain isn't that good. In fact, I'm pretty sure MC is just gonna stomp him so hard if he can't pull off his cheese correctly lol.

I recently got into this game because of friends but the majority of them are high Diamond level players. As such, their advice is... pretty much "don't be a noob and play more" and "you got to find your own style after watching replays and stuff".

How far up the leagues would I get with 4~6 hours of dedicated ladder play (for about a month) would I get from bronze league?

4-6 hours a day? or 4-6 hours in total in a month?

4-6 a day, you will be diamond in no time.

Reading the TeamLiquid WIki alone is enough to put your skills around the Gold level. Then it's just refinement through playing and learning to react. I find Day9's dailies very informative and help me spot some of the smaller mistakes I make.

4-6 a day of dedicated play. From a complete noob at SC. Not using any cheesy methods.

I want realistic figures. I kind of doubt I can manage to hit diamond level of play in a months time...

Edit: I watch day9, and it is pretty good stuff. Might have to start looking into TeamLiquid, looks like they got some BOs.

Oh, before I forget, I like terrran the most after trying out all the races.

4-6 hours a day will get you to diamond in no time. That's actually quite a bit of play time in fact. In one month if you just read up on BO's and try to mimic them, you can get to diamond for sure. Watch a few streams learn a bit from the pro's and you're well on your way!

Yeah man I play 4-6 matches a week if I'm lucky and I'm in diamond. It's really not that hard once you get the basics down.

Ive been playing SC2 on and off since April (beta) and even today I am still getting better. The skill ceiling for this game is incredibly high. I love it.

Finally... FINALLY! After weeks of pondering if I was going to league up after beating high ranking plats and diamonds (my highest win streak is 11 games so far, all against dia/plat, I was silver), I played tonight after not playing for a while.... Needless to say, I lost 3 in a row which annoyed me greatly (I hate, HATE Scrap Yard). Then I won one, and I went to Diamond, rank 20 in Overseer Gamma division! If some of you guys remember my old rant/moans, I was a Silver fighting either plats or diamonds constantly, with no leaguing up.

This is my first diamond, and it feels great.

Also, is it common for players to get placed into rank 20 in diamond from silver? What is the average ranking people get placed in Diamond?

If it was matching you up against diamond / plat, then it was testing you for placement in Diamond. Access granted.

Yeah, but the thing I got annoyed was that I had to play about 35-40 games (all of them) against dia/plats before ranking up because I lost 3 games in a row.

Wait for Blizzard forums to explode with "TOSS IS SO IMBA OMG !1111!!1!!!"

Decided to get back into ladder sc2 after months of not playing... and I got silver. Yay?

Whooped this guy by going all mech versus his banshee build. Watching the replays, he had over 4k min and gas and had two starports... odd.

Ah well.

Played a thousand point Diamond Terran last night and outmacro'd, outupgraded and outplayed him. He lost and starts bitching and moaning that storm is imba (after I feedbacked 5 dropships and stormed his whole army into oblivion). When I offered suggestions on how to do better against toss (don't go bio when storm comes out for one) his response was, "don't care I'm gonna bitch on the bnet forums until Blizzard changes it." Ridiculous.

LOL it's not going to happen, I was watching GLHF TV today, and there was some SICK use of ghosts, sniping and emping templar like they were nothing. The amount of micro is equal to using storm, Terran players just have to adjust their tactics.

Seriously, I should upload the replay and see if you guys think it was the storm that lost him the game, or if it was, as I think, his lack of adaptation, upgrades and early macro.

I bet it was his play that lost him the game. I've had pretty good success with ghost add-on to my army coupled with some mech here and there. Full on mech I don't think is viable because of the inevitable void ray tech switch if possible hahah.

You sir, got trolled ;)

Yeah man I think Thors will be even LESS viable post-patch, considering the 20% damage increase to massive they're about to receive. On the other hand, I'm going to miss Flux Veins, but it's going to be interesting to see how people use Void Rays post-patch.

To be honest, I think void rays (even after the nerf) is a very very good unit to have in any protoss army, they have pretty good base damage and could really put the hurt on if left unnoticed during a big battle. But I'm a fan of an army with a little bit of everything.. usually it somehow works out in the end.. if my macro is up to par that game :p.

Thor's are half worthless as it is. 20% damage increase to massive means jack and shit. Thor ground range for a Thor is 7 where Colossus with Thermal Lance is 9. Plus with that minor (and useless) buff Terran is still getting nerfed again with repair. VR's will just own a Thor post patch because Thor AA is pretty piss poor in reality.

Tanks half-assed? Check.
Depot before Rax? Check.
Reapers the most worthless unit in the game? Check.
Can't repair BC/Tanks/Thor/Barracks to make them cost effective? Check.

At this rate it may be time to switch to Protoss...

Just got it and started playing ladder on Friday and it's a whole lot of fun!

What is your choice of music when you play? Currently I've been listening to the TRON soundtrack on repeat. Makes everything epic.

When's the last time you saw a mothership come out in game? Do you even recall that there exists a unit for Protoss called the 'Mothership'?

EDIT: I hate my KB. It has a tendancy of dyslexia, which isn't present on my laptop... oh well.
and what does this have to do with it?

A mothership costs a crap ton of resources early on, so unless if your oponent isn't agressive enough, or isn't scouting enough mid game, then well... one mothership won't make a single difference.

It's some 400min/300gas+fleetbeacon+stargate (which will remain unsused because of the sheer cost of the mothership - this all depends on timing, of course).

But an amply agressive Protoss player with enough units and production will never get to the point of having enough resources for a mothership, IMO.

HDstarcraft did cast one game about a month ago with a mothership play, but that was it. And it all came down to a mistake made in collosii placement & reinforcing units, not the mothership (though the final vortex sealed the deal).
