Starcraft II

Hydra -- bug report.

If you die to Boss levi, you don't respawn -- even if you have lives.

The viking hero sucks. He has no area attack, and within 2 minutes of choosing him, he was dead. I chose to go with archon cuz he had area attacks, which helped out until the boss.

I've had the leviathan death bug reported a couple of times, but I can't seem to reproduce it. I'm not sure why. The death trigger in general seems to be finicky, only working most of the time.

The passive missile skill for the viking hero is his AOE attack. It's like a multi-shot. In general, every hero has an AOE skill and at least 1 defensive skill. The general build for every hero is to get the AOE first then some sort of defense second. The archon though has 2 AOE skills, but I think he's mediocre against bosses.

Anyone following the MLG? Quite a few good games, and to my surprise... huk, idra, selct, kiwikaki... all in the losers bracket.

Wow it's really BoxeR? He's back? It'd be no surprise if it was BoxeR pulling off Terran miracles.

-Damn, it's FAKE BoxeR aka Foxer

-edit better quality, 720p on Youtube

(split into various vids though, that's the start)

Anyone have another link to this? The link is deaaaaaaaaad

the early round streamed matches were mostly mediocre, but the quality of matches picked up pretty well today

plenty of upsets and interesting matches today

Unbelievable... Lag at MLG dallas during the grand finals. The players were all dropped during a very close match at an incredibly pivotal moment.

Way to go blizzard.

I just tried the viking, and he doesn't suck now. He's actually good, got farther than the archon. I got to the very end and won. I like the mini games, especially the frog hopper thingy.

how are the stats calculated? I tried to increase the viking attack speed through faster attack speed charms/weapons and tons of points in agility, but the most I got was (1.6) (-1.47). Is there some sort of depreciating gains in effect the more you invest in agility? I think I had over 700 points in agility by that time.

Attack speed is actually exponential. Due to that, right now the multiplier for 1 agility is set at 1.003. That is, the first point of agility increases base attack speed by 0.3%. However since it's exponential, attack speed quickly takes off. The max attack speed should be 12800% (aka you'll never realistically hit that).

When you reach such a high attack speed (low time in between attacks), the number of significant digits shown by the game is actually insufficient.

For example, you had 1.6-1.47 attack speed which is 0.13 time in between attacks. Changing that from 0.13 to 0.12 is a significant increase in attack speed so behind the scenes it may be changing from 0.13 to 0.129 etc. and won't show the change to 0.12 until much later due to the fact that it only shows 2 decimals. If that made any sense.

I am finally caught up with the GSL so i can post here again!

I think Foxer marines arent going to be able to take down NesTea. That guy is an animal. I thought fruit dealer was amazing but NesTea is the real zerg king.

It was sad to see SlayerS_Boxer get beat so bad. I wanted him to get a couple wins but he did go far in his first tourney. not bad.

On another note, if you have a demonoid account I put the entire GSL on there in 720p.

Anyone with a 3 monitor eyefinity setup play in windowed fullscreen?

I am having an issue with the windows toolbar. I'm unable to move down with the cursor in game without having the toolbar come up.

Anyone experience this or know of a solution besides going fullscreen?

Thanks in advance.

I assume your eyefinity group is off when you run SC2?

I have a 3 monitor eyefinity setup and windowed fullscreen works fine for me. No issues with the windows toolbar.

I actually have group on.

I just assumed since I'm able to move up, left & right that there was something wrong that caused the toolbar to activate when moving down.

I was using the left and right screen to surf the web, etc. and the middle screen for SC2 since it doesn't support eyefinity.

I have two profiles set up: One for eyefinity (a 3x1 landscape group) and one where it's just normal triple screen where each screen is independent. I switch to the independent profile when I launch SC2.

I have a question about ranking guys.

Why am I not ranking up above silver? I am pitted against high ranking plats and diamond players, beating them, yet I'm still in silver. I've been doing this for a while, but it almost feels like I'm destined to stay in silver forever. I am never placed against silver or golds, only high plats and diamonds! And I usually end up winning.

Here's my 1v1 info: 29 won, 12 lost, ratio of 70.73%

Any ideas?

eventually you will move up
it took me to win 20 games straight to move to plat against diamond and plat players
hahahhaahah
it took me literally winning 20 games straight to do that

There's multiple reasons but the short answer to just keep playing.

The system doesn't promote / demote in real time, it does so at checkpoints.

Promotion and demotion is also based off of your hidden MMR as well as a confidence interval. Sometimes losing could increase your chance of promotion if it decreases the confidence interval even if your MMR goes down slightly. For example, if your opponent is expected to win (favored), but you beat him... you gain MMR but your confidence interval becomes larger because the system was wrong about the outcome of the game so it becomes less confident in its assessment of your rating. That's one reason why undefeated teams never make it into diamond.

But in short, just keep playing. Eventually the system will promote you. You really don't have a 'ton' of games under belt anyway so it's not a big deal.

WHAT!?

they reset every month? I mean, I'll still have my ranking? Or does the whole system start again on a blank slate?

They don't reset every month. When they do reset, it's just displayed points. Word on the street is that you keep your MMR and simply play 1 game to get re-placed.

Is battle.net down for you guys? I get that message on the site and then when I try to launch SC2 I dont even get a login screen. It times out, and the same for a friend?

Yeah, all of the games were too quick and "all in" overall. Both players really wanted to end it quick.

They weren't all in. Just Terran needed to have aggressive early attacks to keep the Zerg from expanding and macroing up. The Terran player always tried to be very aggressive early while often building up his own base and expanding. 4 times, it backfired though.

I suppose so. There were at least 3 or 4 games where one of the players put everything on the line though. The rest were just really rushed.

Game 1, Terran tried to go all in but his economy was still going due to mules which led to later attacks so it wasn't an all-in-one attack. In game 7, it was similar but more like a game against Fruitdealer in an earlier round. The rest were early aggression + build. Game 7 was still bitterly disappointing.

Yeah, one of the games (I forget which but it was in Steppes of War), NesTea had to go all-in or be screwed too. It was more delayed, but even the commentators knew it was over after the rush failed.

that's what happens with combination of open tournament + large prize pool + single elimination
no1 wants to entertain crowd they just want to win gsl is boring

The first and last games were all-ins. I dont think any of the games in between were all-ins though. When you send all of your SCVs to attack, that's an all-in.

Nestea's play was perfect in game 7 as he got some clutch surrounds which saved him the game
