Absolutely, but having so little progress after spending close to, what, $700 Million is something out of the ordinary.I don't think there must be any fraud ongoing.
Messy software projects are common enough.

So little progress? That is disingenuous, there has been a tremendous amount of progress and I don't think anyone should discount that, people are upset about feature creep and the perpetual alpha status.Absolutely, but having so little progress after spending close to, what, $700 Million is something out of the ordinary.
Why does Cyberpunk 2077 & The Witcher 3 always get roped along with every comparison for SC? SC still hasn't been released & has no solid ETA.So little progress? That is disingenuous, there has been a tremendous amount of progress and I don't think anyone should discount that, people are upset about feature creep and the perpetual alpha status.
We are passing 10-11 years on SC, to put things in perspective. Cyberpunk took something like 8 years if you include pre-production. But CDPR also had the Witcher 3 to work off of technology wise. The total cost was over $400M including DLCs.(that is for an already established developer)
Because those are open world games, which both have a big scale in game and a big budget. Why does Cyberpunk 2077 & The Witcher 3 always get roped along with every comparison for SC? SC still hasn't been released & has no solid ETA.
Don't want to be an ass, but do you really want to compare SC to Cyberpunk given:So little progress? That is disingenuous, there has been a tremendous amount of progress and I don't think anyone should discount that, people are upset about feature creep and the perpetual alpha status.

CP also was developed by an established studio, with employees, and previous game IP. So a lot of those costs had already been absorbed by other projectsDon't want to be an ass, but do you really want to compare SC to Cyberpunk given:
a) Cyberpunk has actually been released
b) SC has taken 75% longer to develop (so far) than Cyberpunk - and you can't count Cyberpunk's pre-production time without doing the same for SC, which started pre-production in 2010, so we're actually talking 14 years not 10-11.
c) SC has cost twice as much (so far) as Cyberpunk
So what you're saying is that the two projects aren't comparable?CP also was developed by an established studio, with employees, and previous game IP. So a lot of those costs had already been absorbed by other projects
Umm, they are.. both massive open worlds, both have huge budgets, both have long development times. So they are comparable. Are they the same ? No... that is why they are different games, with different requirements and goals from different developers. So what you're saying is that the two projects aren't comparable?
Oh, so they are comparable after all.Umm, they are.. both massive open worlds, both have huge budgets, both have long development times. So they are comparable.
Yeah you don't need to trot our dictionary definitions here, we all understand what these words meanUmm, they are.. both massive open worlds, both have huge budgets, both have long development times. So they are comparable. Are they the same ? No... that is why they are different games, with different requirements and goals from different developers.
Incase you want to continue arguing something silly...
Comparison:
a consideration or estimate of the similarities or dissimilarities between two things or people.
Comparable:
(of a person or thing) able to be likened to another; similar.
Likened:
point out the resemblance of someone or something to.
Does that satisfy your standards to compare the 2 projects on their similarities ?
Was going to say. If we want to play the direct comparison game: Star Citizen has literally been in development for twice the amount of time and twice the amount of money as Cyberpunk 2077, and there is still no finish line in sight.Oh, so they are comparable after all.Meaning star citizen is way behind the eight ball.
Of course there has been progress, but when you look at how long it has taken, how much money they have spent plus the fact that most, if not all the things actual in the game are in tier 0 status, it isn't very impressive. So little progress? There have been ads on youtube. I've seen a few myself.Of course there has been progress, but when you look at how long it has taken, how much money they have spent plus the fact that most, if not all the things actual in the game are in tier 0 status, it isn't very impressive.
And remember that advertising is about 25-30% of a game's cost, and I haven't seen any ads for Star Citizen anywhere yet.
I believe you of course, but that's not at all on a scale you need to advertise for a modern game. When you see Star Citizen compared to other games cost wise you should remember that they are almost always released games with the cost of advertising included, Star Citizen is not even close to being released, at least not in the form they have promised, and little to no cost have been sunk into advertising yet either. There have been ads on youtube. I've seen a few myself.
