Skyrim Modding Megathread

I've really seen a considerable difference in a lot of textures. I'm not sure why I see it so much but the game feels much more immersive than before. With modder texture packs additionally, a lot looks great but I'm not sure if INI settings have brought out the best with the "HD" texture pack.

Funny how probably better than half of that stuff has already been created as mods.

I dunno, I'm impressed by some of the stuff they created in that video and would love to see some of it implemented. The flow based water shader would be awesome.

I'm noticing longer load and save times and occasional hitching with the hi-res pack. Running 'Ultra' but only 2x AA.

I noticed a longer load time for the initial load game screen, after that zoning and quick travel is the same. No hitching though.

If your shadows are at ultra, set them down to high and I bet that ends your performance issue.

Wow, why do they even put this out? "Look at what the game could have been if we let our team make a cool game?"

Seriously?

Combining spells is something that i assumed would be in the game because of how much hype they put into the dual casting. It was so disappointing that it wasn't there... then one of their ppl puts it in in a weeks time? Rubbish.

Does the mage/spell side in this game seem kind of short-changed to anyone else? I played as sword and board my first time through, and am now playing mage...not only is it exponentially harder, it just seems like the number of spells, type of gear, etc, just isn't as well thought out as the melee side.

Although the spell casting perks do seem to matter much more than the combat side.

I use a bunch of mods to add more spells, spell power & magicka regen. I have a blast being a mage. :D

Is it OP though or is it still a challenge? I would love to have a variety of spells, but looking at what's out there it seems like you'd just faceroll everything with the supercharged spells.

Slightly OP on normal even with Deadly Dragons set to normal, too. I think I'll change over to Hard for the game & Hard for the Deadly Dragons mod, too. I need more challenges since I'm smoking enemies with Thunderbolt in both hands. I also have high magic resistance & high spell absorption due to certain earned/gained perks (no mods for perks I think). Quite fun when dragons & spell casters can do much against. Only melee really have a chance, if they even get close to me.

Oh it's definitely short-changed imo. Not only are the end perks for the 3 types of destruction damage all basically the same useless thing, but there is a severe lack in spell variety. They really just axed too much stuff in this game.

So yea--get midas magic, then proceed to crank up the in-game difficulty and grab PISE to top it off. Shouldn't be OP then, and you'll have damage over time spells, and you'll have movement impairing spells too, in addition to lots more.

Started getting a little pissed off around 37:05 when he started talking about the feeling of pride and accomplishment you get from gaming.

Todd, have you fucking played Skyrim? The ending of the main quest line may be one of the biggest letdowns in the history of gaming. You just saved the world from destruction and nobody gives a shit.

I had the game at Master difficulty with PISE installed - with my sword and board it was still easy, but starting out as a mage it was brutal. I had to uninstall PISE and drop it to Expert, but at level 18 now I think I'm over the initial difficulty curve and will reinstall PISE. Particularly with a companion to tank.

What really sucks is they got rid of the crafting your own spells part of the game.

Yeah that was really crappy. I got back from the ending, looked around...mm, ok. Guess I'll go have a drink at the Thieves Guild bar to celebrate, where the bartender still says, "So you're the new kid Brynjolf brought in, eh?" despite the fact I'm the goddamn guild master and just saved the world. Not to mention the leader of the Companions, Arch-Mage, Thane of multiple cities....

Have any notable mods been made with the CK yet?

I've been on the lookout for this as well. A lot of what I've been seeing are a lot of overpowered mods or things to make the game easier.

Lot of mods have been remade or even duplicated.

Kinda sucks seeing all these mods getting released that aren't all that... innovative. Or look like they'd be extremely awesome to have but aren't anywhere near completion. Course, thats asking a lot of someone for only having a day or two with the CK. Still, it'd be nice to see more complete mods instead of little itty bitty placeholders.

Patience... patience... patience... I have to keep telling myself this.

Open Cities has a small version out.

There's work on an Unofficial Patch as well.

STEP is delayed for the HD texture pack testing. Sigh... gonna take forever to download that pack off steam.

Thanks for the ending of the game.

I haven't beat the game either, but after completing many quests which all had 0 effect on the world, are you really surprised that the main quest doesn't have an effect either?

Nope not really. But I had my thoughts/ideas on how it would eventually progress towards endgame. None of them included a lackluster ending.

Could have at least hinted at a spoiler warning so I could have skipped over the post.

Actually, I'm just going to pretend he was talking about Assassins Creed and move on.

Haven't finished the game here either, kind of taking my time and savoring it before the letdown.

Wow I almost shed a tear of joy because of those Sounds of Skyrim trailers. I CANNOT wait until everything is up and running.

Just the dungeon sounds have made a huge difference already. It's much more eerie being down there in the dark with draugrs.

Anyone else having issues geting mods to activate when using the Steam Workshop? I have subscribed to 46 mods but only about 10 have activated and are listed in the data files when I launch the game.

edit: Nevermind. Launch Skyrim, and then go do something else for a few minutes while it downloads them. Check the data files, then hit Play.

I really hope these end behaving like they actually should. They were a pain in the ass in Morrowind because you couldn't hit them. I want revenge!

Mod details say that you can't interact/kill them, just for cosmetic purposes. Seen flying around the Morrowind border, which is kinda cool.

Yeah, I saw that. By "end up", I meant I hope the dev continues to work on this so that they become something you can interact with.

So I'm just posting this here to try and motivate myself to actually get it done; I'm going to attempt to make my first mod ever, using the CK. I've got a few ideas, but for practice and to prove to myself I can actually do anything in the first place, I'm thinking I'll map out a basic large circular room/cave/arena, and try to make it some kind of gladiatorial arena, with different types of monsters summoned in after you kill each one. Wish me luck!

Dude--Good luck! I want to play.

because they cut every corner they could

11/11/11

Oblivion had a similiar release schedule, then they delayed it to march to actually finish it (as finished as these games can ever be). With the above date, that was "not an option" for Skyrim :/

500 million dollars later, we will see how motivated they are to actually finish/achieve that vision (eg. the 1 week Bethesda Imagination Game Jam video). The game is already a huge success, won many awards, so how much of that sort of stuff will actually be incorporated (outside of intrepid modders) remains to be seen.
