Rage sucks

Not really on topic, but I thought I should just say:

I thought to steer clear of this game on pc, didn't feel like spending 60 dollars to play it once with all these issues so I just rented it for PS3 from redbox. I have to say that even on PS3 the txture pop in is absolutely atrocious. I can barely even play because its so distracting.

This is after the game update and the install to the hdd.

So, it seems the issues with this game are just as bad on console, despite what I was lead to believe.

If that's true, and I'm not doubting your word, that's just plain sad.

Terrible texture pop in and low quality graphics as well. Thats pretty pathetic of id. Are they going to blame that on drivers as well?

Hey Rage, Doom 3 called wondering whats up with the lack of graphic options. :D

Now the big question is, all this took like a week to fix, why the HELL could they not simply do this for release? They could have gone from a universally bad reception on release to actually a pretty good one with only a weeks worth of work, or less. First impressions are so important and every game on the PC these days seems to release with stupid bugs that are trivial to fix, it's completely retarded.

Are you sure it only took a week to fix? How do we know they weren't working on bugs prior to that? RAGE went gold what two or three weeks prior to shipping? Even if it did only take them a week to fix it, games can't stay in development forever. I'm sure Bethesda said it had to ship when it did and delaying it wasn't worth the cost to them.

Well, maybe it took longer (I doubt it), but the total time since release has been about a week. Fact is most of this stuff is in the engine 99% of it is not exposed through the menus is all, so things like adding vsync to the game menu is pretty damn trivial, that's a few hours work from a handful of people and a few hours testing on different systems.

Waiting a week when you have had your game in development like 5 years is nothing, going from an incredibly harsh reception to what probably would be a good one had these problems not existed is a massive black mark on an otherwise huge investment.

Also, blaming Nvidia and AMD for issues with drivers is pathetic, all major players in the gaming world are actually working along side Nvidia and AMD so they have compatible drivers for launch, this should have been a higher priority especially considering the advancement of the technology they're using, releasing in that state is absolute insanity if you ask me, I have no idea what part of the testing chain failed to catch these game breaking problems but it's a completel shambles.

The whole thing is a farce, the game itself is actually pretty damn enjoyable once all this shit has been fixed, the first 4-5 hours was really fun for me. All this negative press it's had was NOT worth an extra weeks development time, I don't care what anyone says.

well i beat rage, the ending sucks big time.

spoiler below

There is no final boss fight!!!

that blows my mind.

driver issues on a pc are one thing. A poorly optimized console experience is another.

another thing that made rage sucks.

when u beat rage, u cant go and do the submissions. u got to start a new game.

The ending definitely leaves an opening for Rage 2. Probably another "Rage sucks thread" by then if ID doesn't get it right haha

I think Carmack said he was open to doing a sequel if Rage was successful.

It will be interesting to see the sale figures. I don't know if it will meet their criteria of success to warrant a sequel.

I'd rather they finish Doom 4 and then revisit another old ip like Quake (in the original Lovecraft style) or a Wolfenstein game in the same vein as Grey Matter's version.

does this game still suck? hehe

well, i still have my copy, they never gave me a refund, i'll have to see what the new patch did

is that the voice of John Goodman? It sure sounds like him btw

Yup, it's Goodman.

The new "patch" is just adding VSync on-off, and some detailing to AF and texture loading.

It's essentially the .cfg patches that we had on day 1 that were published on Steamforums and geforce

If you use triple monitors however, Hayden at widescreengamingforums has a nice HUD centering hack and there are some FOV corrections that are really nice.

Unfortunately, doesn't change the texture ugliness in parts.

except that's not stock doom 3.

So............it's still depressing that a 2005 game, even with a texture pack, can outdo a brand new release in places.......

That said, Rage has some excellent graphics in places, but overall scene after scene Doom3 can still look better.

I still cant play this damn game, I have tried the new betas with my 6970 setup and now it shows the loading screen then Black Screens locking my PC. I have to reboot and to get my computer running again and now 1 of my Hard Drives is borked. This is the worst expierience i have had with a PC game ever, This game has told me that i should never Pre-Buy a game again and wait a month before something comes out to see if its worth a shit. This fucking company should refund PC users for releasing such a horseshit steaming pile of crap.

Bought on release here too and still can't get past the first 4 minutes of the game. Walk into store with the old man, pick up gun, and FREEZE!

Even with new drivers and tried the cfg file mod too. Will Amazon accept a return on an opened PC game?

I must be an oddity, I've had exactly one crash with this game, and the few graphical errors I have had were removed by the recent update. I like the game, and the engine has potential.

That said, it looks more like Quake II in places than Doom 3, let alone a modern game. I have a feeling we can thank the consoles for that.

Why? Doom 3 was an utter disaster. Yeah it was impressive visually but the entire game crawled and was non stop "hey look a zombie in a locker". Not to mention it had weapon reloading, which has no place in a Doom game, and the game play of it was slow as all hell compared to Doom 2.

The last Quake, Quake 4, was also an utter disaster. Leaving out that the single player campaign was a mess the multi player was complete crap compared to the earlier 3 Quakes.

Can't play this game at all on my 6950, applied all the updates and used Driver Cleaner to remove all old drivers, it just freezes every few seconds rendering it unplayable. However, I can play this on my GTX 590 rig without any issues.

But seriously there is something wrong with this game on ATI cards.

The patch caused issues with the custom "fix" cfg file for me, but once I deleted the cfg, everything is dandy again.
I'm honestly enjoying the game. After the horrible Brink and Dead Island, I've found this to be the best PC game I've played in a little while.

Am I the only one that thought the background music in Dan's building was reminiscent of the Roseanne theme? Anyway I also noticed Claudia Black is the voice of the racing chick in subway town.

Have you played Deus Ex: HR yet? That'll make you forget this game very quickly if you haven't.

Same here... I'm liking it alot more then those two... I'd probably rate it a 7.5 out of ten

Deus Ex is much better in all aspects though :)

I havent picked this one up yet but I think im gonna buy me a copy. I have heard lots of good things about it so I think im gonna go for it. It has to be an improvement over rage.

With ease.

Definitely. I preordered the game, and came out satisfied. Stealth is slightly stupid, but the story and gameplay will keep you going much more than Rage

the best thing I can say about rage is that it makes me want to play borderlands again. fuck rage.

I tried it again after the patch. The seizure inducing menu flashing line is still there for me. The mouse accell is still way off in the menus. The pop-in is lessened but still there.

I think I'll just switch it to the HDTV and play on the couch. The FOV is giving me a headache on the monitor.

On the plus side, I do like how they put a monitor choice in the options. It lets me choose not only resolution, but which screen to play it on without having to muck around in control panel and switching primary displays or playing windowed. If only they had put thought like that into most everything else.

Here is another review from AtomicPC in Australia:

"Review: id delivers a problematic tech demo for idTech 5, and not much of a game besides."

And this snippet had an interesting point:

"Given that every other NPC is fully voiced in RAGE, the idea to not give the player any voice is particularly odd. Instead, we end up with a true cipher as the player’s agent in the world, a guy who seems happy to be used by every person who meets him. If his ‘arc suit’ were a shiny leather gimp outfit, we wouldn’t be surprised – that’s how passive your ‘character’ is in the game."

Huge +1

I seriously never thought of that. Why the hell am I killing hundreds of bandits for random strangers? Because one guy saved my life? Bullshit

I honestly don't see what the problem is with a mute protagonist. Look at Gordon Freeman, he's praised as one of FPS gods. The real complaint would be that the guy is doing damage for people with no question.

You gotta give the audience a compelling reason to play the game. Rage missed the mark here... most people simply don't care about the main character or what is going on. Blame the writers, maybe? The game might've been better had they not TRIED to make a compelling dialog?

Whatever, it's not really worth discussing any further, the game was a let down and nothing much will change that now.

That review is excellent. You basically are playing a complete nonentity.

I'm definitely feeling the itch to revisit Borderlands thanks to this game.
