PS3 camping update

What the hell happened to buying a gaming console to, oh, I don't know, play games on it?!

The way I see it, you're all buying PS3s with the pure and simple intention of denying it to people who want to buy it to play games on, so that you can sell them to these people at a high price to line your own pockets.

Disclaimer: the kotaku article has probably soured me on this whole thing.

This thread is making for good entertainment, though.

We aren't denying it to anyone. If you want it....buy it. It'll be on Ebay Friday morning. If you can't afford it then stfu! Money talks. It isn't our fault they are worth so much. You think Sony and Wal-Mart don't hike the price up because they are virtuous, ethical companies? No! It's because they can't do it legally. It would be price gouging. Every news network would lambast Sony and blood would rain down from the heavens. High demand, low supply means price goes up somehow or other.

"But I've been a loyal gamer for upmteen years and I deserve one if i'm willing to pay the msrp....waaah." Nobody gives a flying rat turd! There are people willing to pay big $$$ for the latest and greatest without having to wait in line for it. Direct your anger toward those that are creating the demand. You guys talk about gaming like it's some noble, praiseworthy cause and that without a PS3 you won't be able to carry on your righteous crusade of slaying non-existent monsters. It's a piece of consumer electronics that's in high demand!... That's it!

Hrm. I am in northwest IL. What I wouldn't do to live in Texas or Florida right now....
No doubt. The only 24/7 place in my town is a 24/7 walmart, but somehow they are only getting 4 in and there are already 4 people waiting in line as of 11:00 this morning. Everywhere else is going to be outside camping in 40 degrees and below weather for me and I'm not sure how bad I really want to do that.

Even in Texas its highs in the 50s maybe 60 if your lucky with 20-30/mph winds out of the north. Its getting into the 30s at night, with the same wind. Its still cold.

I am checking out my local walmarts(3), both best buys, and if anybody is camping at either I am just going to Sam's Club right by my house and hoping.

I just got back from my local best buy in dallas tx central expressway & there are 50 people in line.

You guys are nuts! hahaha nice.

I see people in tents at most places selling PS3s in my area (Bay Area, CA)

Nobody camping in IA. I talked to Wal-mart over lunch and they are planning a lottery release for the 5 (maybe) systems they have. Best Buy is doing a regular release, but they said their shipments were cut. I went to three retailers and they all gave me the impression that the actual shipments won't be close to what they advertised. Most retailers in my area aren't getting them until tomorrow.

wow, some of those guys don't look like "kids".

I'm sure a bunch of em are parents hoping to get one for their kids, I know I'd do it if my kid REALLY REALLY wanted one for Christmas. Luckily he doesn't know what a PS3 is :D

Meh I sulate all of you currently in line. You guys are champions.

I am really hoping that going to my Walmart tomorrow at about 6pm will do it. The walmart I am going to is right in the middle of basically farm country..

If I get there and there is a huge line, oh well. I tried. If I can get one, fucking cheers!

Well im leaving here at 9 to wait at mejier which there lines starts at 12

12 people waiting outside of Best Buy here, as of 3:30 PM. Walmart is unknown, will check it out tomorrow at 3 PM. Odds are stacked against me, but I'll try.

I'm in Texas...
It's 38 degrees here (day), and colder at night.

Stupid cold front had to come in the day before the night before the PS3 comes out.

There are already 50 people camped out in front of the premeire midnight launch Best Buy in Saint Louis!!! AND its cold and raining pretty hard with no sign of letting up.

Well damn it all to hell. I went to target, they said we cant start till 6PM tomorrow. Treid CC, they were 5PM. BB was noon. Meijers was a raffle, fuck that. Wal-Mart isn't letting people wait at all. Gunna show up at BB around 8AM tomorrow and wait in the car. I will be so pissed if they let people in line early though.

There's at least 70 people lined up at a Best Buy here in MI, the line is on the left side of the building and it's already around that corner.

Well, I went to 4 places in town last night: Circuit City, 2 Walmarts, and one K-mart. No lines at any of them yet.

The guys at Circuit City said they guarantee at least 5 units. He said plan on getting there at about 6:00 AM Friday morning if I want to have a chance.

The guys at the upscale Walmart said they would be receiving 20 units for sale at midnight but could not offer any more info.

The guys at the ghetto Walmart said they would also be receiving 20 units for sale at midnight and would be giving out tickets. He said that most of the people who had asked him about the PS3 said they were planning on getting there about 10PM Thursday night with the local gangs and thugs lining up at the exits at about 11:30.

The guy at the ultra ghetto K-mart had to put his teeth in first but then told me that they would be doing a midnight launch but did not know how many units would be available. However, all bullet-proof vests and coffins would be 20% off, located at the beginning of the line.

I think my best bet is going to be the ghetto walmart. They seemed to have the best plan and had the most info. I am going to try and get there at about 1:45 PM tomorrow and check everything out. If the line is too long, I'll just put on a doo rag and wait with the others at the exit.

I feel sorry for the poor sap who's going to get mugged at those ghetto Wal marts and k-marts :D

Make sure you bring about $1,700 with you because walmart is only offering bundles.

anyone have an update for the CC in new jersey/phili, the one with the special midnight deal?

I've called 10 walmarts within 50 miles. Supercenters are getting 6, others get 4. All but 2 already had lines. I can't decide what the best bet is to get one, I really dont' feel like waiting more than 24 hours, but I don't think that's going to be possible.

CC in Madison, Wisconsin is getting 6 and no one is lined up yet. BB on the other hand doesn't know how many are coming in and has a line forming. I plan to leave UW campus in 2 hours and go check it out, I might wait at BB at 8 AM tomorrow or just check CC for a line after class at 4 PM since people seem to prefer to wait outside BB over CC for some reason.

Back 3 years ago when the network adapter came out it retailed for $40, went for $70 on eBay. I must have picked up 7 or so from CC over a 3 week span and sold them. Maybe four people will wait outside CC and I wil beable to buy 3 PS3s.

No K-Mart in the area, Wal-Mart is being a bitch about it, CompUSA here isn't receiving any till after X-mas, CC and BB are my only options.

The EB Games on campus told me that their presales for PS3 were gone in an hour, I guess there wasn't even a line. How I wish I knew how much it would eBay for 5 weeks ago and got a pre-order.

So you people think walmarts are only getting 4-6 units ?

The one here says it's 10 per store minimum but "they don't guarantee anything".

One supercenter already has 3 people in line.
I plan to go to a regular non-24 hour walmart tommorow afternoon.
12-18 hours I can handle. If I got in line now, it would be a 31 1/2 hour wait !
No thanks.
:)

edit: also the supercenter told me no bundle. You can buy just the system.

WHy don't stores just say to be there between 5am-7am to put your name on a raffle and then at 7:30 they will draw how amount of tickets they have of the PS3 units.

Does this not make any sense?

Every store in my area has a full line.'

Best Buy filled up their line of 26 units by Tuesday afternoon.

Circuit City, all of the Wal-Marts, Targets, etc, are all filled. I had to drive to 5 different stores this morning at 7AM before I found one that had a spot in line - and that spot was #4 of 4 at a Wal-Mart.

I just came back from the spot I wanted to camp...
In a word: NOPE!
Ain't happenin.
There's already a good 100+ people there... it was the Circuit City @ Union Square. I tried to take a census with my friend about how many people were there to buy and how many were there to win one of the 100. Just about 90% of the people on the line said they were there to buy it..
Womp...
Fortunately, I did some scouting just before going there and have a location to camp tomorrow morning with a friend that's empty. :D

Woot. -crosses fingers

EDIT: Scratch that. I just had another friend tell me there's people lining up already. Pfft.
My last resort is the Circuit City closest to me...
It's inside a mall, so it closes and opens, meaning people CAN'T camp outside the store. Plus it's a predominantly "dangerous" area so... yeah. :)
Hopefully that'll be my ticket to PS3-dom. lol

BestBuy Wheaton Maryland...

5+ hrs in line I'm #24... employees are saying 100+ ps3 but none of us believe them. Managers are saying they cant divulge any info.

Crowd is cool... theres a lady here who's #4 in line and still breast feeding her child... a bit sad.

There are some kids here that look like theyre under 10 yrs old.

The majority of the people out here are local community college students from one class.

What kills me is that 11:47am there was no one here, I went home, packed and came back in less than 2 hrs and I'm #24

I have constant internet access and electricity so ill try and update frequently if theres anything interesting. I have a nice tent and enough food entertainment and sex (girlfriend is with me ) for the next 30+ hrs.

Heres the weather forecast for my area for the time I'm out here
http://www.weather.com/weather/tend...pnav_undeclared
http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/20902?dayNum=1
I hope this flushed people away!

I have pics but no way to upload them at the moment.

WTF is that stupid chick doing. GO HOME AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR KID.

If you take priority of a ps3 over your kid in the cold, raining weather, you should just not be alive.

I have officially had it with the Ps3 that's the last straw. Sony can go F themselves if this is what its come down to.

READ A BOOK!

Does anyone know if you can get access to wireless internet at walmart supercenters? I'm about to leave to go camp (still spots open at the one I'm going to) and it would be helpful to know.

Best Buy seems to really not have their shit together. I have called a couple Circuit Citys, a few targets, a few walmarts, couple mejiers, and a couple Best Buys. Every store except best buy all gave me the same time, whatever that chain set it to, as far as when you could camp. Best Buy, two of them were letting peopel camp already, one was noon tomorrow, one was five tomorrow, and was wasn't letting people wait at all and wouldnt be using vouchers, it was first come first serve when the doors opened. It seems like each store can just do whatever the fuck they please.

Thats very lame. They shouldnt hand out vouchers until an hour before opening, tops.

The thing is, when they hand them out days in advance then people no longer have to wait. It basically defeats the purpose of a line. Its stupid to just say "Oh well we got 20 systems and there is already 20 people here so lets just hand them out."

Does Sony deliberately create these launch shortages? I would think they would have learned something from the PS2 launch, which as I recall was as bad as this... If I owned a store, it would be tickets only, no reason to chance some idiot suing the roof off of my establishment...

So, to quote myself, BB has 38/40 spots filled in line. I expect 15-20 go go away empty handed. Walmart says first come first serve at 5:30 AM Friday. They were expecting 8 but got 6 and think the UPS guy stole 2 of them (maybe I'll work for UPS on PS4 launch day). CC has 7/6 people in line, I'm guessing two are together. EB games on campus is getting 2 on launch day. Looks like I'll be getting 0.
