Preliminary numbers for Nvidia GPU client

GPU: EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 512MB
CPU: Q6600 @ 3.0GHz
CPU load while folding: 100% (Two SMP clients, One GPU2)
Board Connection (PCI-E, AGP, etc.): PCI-E
Memory used by the client: 20MB
Temps of the GPU (NVMonitor): 55-58C Load
GPU Clocks: 770/1910/1020
PPD (as stated by FahSpy): 5292

Increased my shader clocks to 1750, reduce core and memory to stk (may even under clock it later today)

and I went from 4233.60 to 4704 on my WC 8800GTX a 470.4 PPD gain just from that tweak alone!

Going to go try 1900 now... :) 2000 failed on me

Wow the G80's don't do so well in this area... 1750 was the max.. 1800 would fail.

Woot!

MoBo: Skulltrail.
GPU: GeForce 9800GTX 512MB.
CPU: 2x 5450's @ 3.0GHz.
Memory: 4x 2Gb DDR2-800 FB Dimm.
CPU load while folding: 100% (Four SMP clients, One GPU2).
Board Connection (PCI-E, AGP, etc.): PCI-E.
Memory used by the client: 17MB. 600-800Mb in the VM's
Temps of the GPU (NVMonitor): ~64C Load
GPU Clocks: 700/1900/1100
GPU, ~5270 PpD. VM's: p2605, ~1700 PpD, p2665, ~1500 PpD.
Power used ~500 watts.

Try ~12,000 PpD from this one boxen.
It puts in the top 20 for PpD by its self.

I've set affinity so that the GPU client runs on 1 core and the 4x VM's on the other 7.

Luck ............ :D

Holy shite Tigerbiten !!!! 12,000 big ones on one boxen , thats gots to be some kinda' world record, egads to the max!!! :D

If I could run 2x GPU clients on 2x 9800GTX's, you could add another 5,000 PpD on top of that.
At the moment the software stops it.

Luck ............ :D

Same here, I'm planning my main box with 2 GPU (actually asymetrical, 1 8800GT and 1 GTX 260) to take advantage of PhysX offloaded crunching and when the client allow it, run 2 GPU2 for over 10k ppd from a single box :D

Couple random thoughts:

I had serious trouble getting 177s with the hacked INF to work correctly on Vista 32. It would appear to install, but then once I reboot, it loaded up the standard vga. This was overcome when I found a leaked copy of 177.39 on softpedia. It still didn't install automatically for either my 8800GT or GTS (both on Vista 32), but I went to control panel and forced windows to install the drivers through device manager. Only the 9800GTX was listed, so I forced it to install those, and it worked fine for both systems. HUGE PPD increase compared to the 174.55s.

I also have a 320MB G80 based 8800GTS running on a q6600 pc, and I was surprised to see that with GPU2 running the pc can't handle full screen youtube vids. That PC is in the same room as my main pc, and is used to play youtube vids for the kid while I play on mine. Disappointing really that something as simple as youtube vids is too much to handle for a system running gpu2.

yeah, there is a lot of lag with the GPU2 client, but that will be fixed in the next version, the current GPU2 client is a beta version afterall

I get a lot of lag on my one PC with Server 2008 x64, but hardly any on my Vista x64 PC. The cards are basically the same on each 8800GT vs 8800 GTS G92 and Server 2008 uses the same drivers as Vista x64 so I'm not sure why they differ so much. PPD is in line though, and I only use the server box for folding at the moment so I don't really care.

Yes, the choppiness is a known issue and is being worked on.

Don't expect the GPU2 client to leave beta any time soon, if ever. Look at the SMP client. It's still a beta and it's been out for what, 2 years now?

oh heck, well at least i hope they fixed that annoying problem

The chopiness will be fixed shortly. They found why and how it happens and they're fixing it right now. I heard reports of people using 177.39 having things running smoother so it's already there.

Jebo which INF file did you use? I couldn't get the 177's to install properly either.

+1 8800GT folding

I downloaded some drivers from:
http://ashentech.com/index.php?topic=1124.0
They are working on vista x64 w/o pressing f8 to get in!! Sweetness.

FahMon is reporting 5985.34ppd!! q6600@3Ghz w/ 1 smp client + 8800gt w/ gpu client. Amazing!
Now if we can just get SLI support I can start using my 2nd 8800GT... can you say nearly 10k ppd on one machine?!?

This is perhaps the largest revolution in F@H Yet!

Is the ~6000PPD figure for the whole machine or just the GPU client?

Is the ~6000PPD figure for the whole machine or just the GPU client?

Sorry, that is the whole machine. 1 SMP Client + 1 GPU Client. That number seems to bounce around a bit (I've been playing some TF2, now it is near 5.3k)

well my Q6600 w/ 8800GTX has mellowed out to the following:

SMP1 = 1670.57
SMP2 = 1567.94
GPU = 4456.42 <had to lower it to 1700 kept getting EUE's

total points off one box = 7694.93

I wonder what the chance is these numbers will stay so high? I hope they don't get evened out 'cause I want to purchase a box specifically for GPU2 Nvidia.

Just installed 177.39. It hasn't completely eliminated the choppiness problem, but it's definitely improved quite a bit.

hrmm, i installed it on my home PC (8800GTX) and my video card (i thinik?) starts making a high-pitched whine/scream sound and my computer will become unstable/artifact and reboot itself after a while...

anyone got any ideas?

MSI 8800GTX
P5WDG2-WS
750w silverstone PSU

and when i close it i get

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library: FahCore_11.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7473f2ac" referenced memory at "0x01470130". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program

For fun, did you do some 3DMark06 looping or fur test running to see if it's stable ? If it isn't, something if fucked between the psu and the gpu.

A fur test? I've not head of that one.:D

And yeah, mine whines once in a while too. Not much but a little bit. My motherboard will also do it when i run OCCT at a high vcore. So you might have some kind of power problem or power delivery problem like xilikon said. if you don't like 3dmark, I run RTHDRIBL at full screen or close to full screen for an hour or two and see what you get. RTHDRIBL is for single gpu only though, it won't load 2 cards in SLI fyi.

In other news I got the 177.39 drivers loaded! vista thinks i own a 9800GTX now, but it appears to be folding away just fine and I got the sneaky ppd boost that's been avoiding me for a week. I figured it was all in the drivers, and after jebo said he forced 177.39 to install i set out to do the same. I'm currently running stock settings of 600/1500 and 900 on the mem and I'm making 4705 ppd while running a winSMP as well so i'm making about 6650 right now, I'm gonna hope to push the 7k threshold with a little shader overclocking.

BOOYAH, top 100 here I come!

yep ira happening in 3dmark also now... its definately the PSU screaming... figured as it sounded like switching noise... it wasnt doing this yesterday when i was playing guitar hero i swear lol

i think im going to sell all my PC crap and go buy an imac or something

Cool glad you got it sorted out. Sorry I wasn't around to respond.

Double check the choke coils around the voltage regulation circuit on your mobo. Many were shipped unpotted and they can scream like hell. Stick a piece of WC tubing in your ear and probe around with the open end, it will lead you right to the noise. If it turns out to be the chokes some silly cone or epoxy should take care of it.;)

My computer is making the same high pitch noise. It also makes this when I boot up Crysis....
I only have a 500W power supply, Coolmax CXI-500B. I am thinking that is insufficient for all of the power I'm sucking right now...

I have also had issues with coming home to a computer that is shutdown, which is really uncool.

Anyone notice the new WU length? 479 pts about 2hrs 45min to complete? Same points overall but takes longer to complete! I love it!

Know the feeling.
My 9800's @725,1950,1111 are doing them in 2 hours dead.

Luck ............ :D

Sunin, the 5003 WU is just a 5002 where they put 5 of them together to make it longer. Hopefully, this will help alleviate some strain on the servers.

hey whaddya know.
Them dudes over thur at Stanford are actually using their noggins.

My first results are in. I went ahead and grabbed an older 8800GTS 640mb card, G80 core. After the 20 MIR it was only 129. So - popped it in last night on my q6600 box at home. Ran the shader clock up to 1650. Launched the client plus 2 smp clients with affinity changer already running. Box is showing a total of 7400ppd this morning. About 4500 on the gpu client and around 1450 each on the smp clients. :D Freaking sweet!

Excellent! So, you could still run two SMP clients with the GPU client on a quad, wow. What frequency is your processor running?

A paltry 3ghz.... It runs hot too - it's the older core 6600. At least 2 of the cores are always around 70 degrees.... I'm probably going to pull the heatsink and proc and lap them.

Definitely lap the processor. I'm going to be doing this to some of my hotter running systems. Also, if you have a mediocre HSF get a TR TRUE or Ultima-90, or one of the newer direct heat pipe contact HSFs, which perform great.

I'm running 4x VM's and 1x GPU2 client on both of my Dual Quads.
The 4x VM's are set to run on 7 cores and only slow down by ~100 PpD each.
The GPU2 client runs on its own core.
Try ~13,500 (4x2,000+5,500) & ~11,500 (4x1,500+5,500) from just two boxen.

Luck .......... :D

Big recommendation for the Xigmatech rifle s1283 120mm heatsink. Cheaper that the TRUE and performs similarly (I own both). There's also a knockoff version of the s1283 made by Kingwin that is an exact copy, but typically sells for $5-10 cheaper on newegg. Makes for really cheap, high end air cooling.

I'm using the Xigmatek HDT-RS1283 HSF on that box. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233012

Will probably not get the time to do it until next week but I'll probably lap both the proc and heatsink. Coretemp reports 2 cores at around 69 to 72 and 2 cores at around 63 to 66. It is also hard mounted with one of the kits that comes with the back plate and screws also which helps.
