My friend lost the PSU bracket for his case, so I decided to make him a nice ghetto one out of some spare aluminum from my case mod.

The bracket...

LOOK OUT, HE'S GOT A BOARD WITH A NAIL IN IT.

My Sapphire X800 GTO with 16 pipes out of the box, and a cooler meant for a core with 12, was reaching mid 80's and even 90 (Celcius!) sometimes in Oblivion. I thought an pci-slot exhaust would help, but its intake just battled the card's fan for air, and it made it worse.

SOO, I got rid of one of the fans, and made a little duct tape duct (lawl), reversing airflow, and giving the stock cooler an exhaust.

PICT0675.jpg

This mod AND lapping only dropped load temps like 7 degrees. I ended up going through an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 1 (temps were a little better, but not better enough), and am now using a Zalman VF900Cu. So much for a cheap card, 130+10(slot fan)+15(sandpaper and glass for lapping)+25(ATI silencer)+43(VF900) ~ $223. At least I'm loading at 51 tops now. Should have just went with Zalman from the start

Oh yeah, and I also hacked a fan into my netgear router, thanks to a tip from a friend, he said heat was his router's problem, it worked fine after he removed the side. I decided to take it a step further.

Using an old ATI fan...
PICT0680.jpg

The little clippy things inside the plug housing didn't need soldering! I just hooked them up directly to the 12V source. I didn't think the .07 amp draw would affect the 1 amp router.
PICT0681.jpg

ended up working fine. It's too bad though, the router wasn't the problem :{

Yeah, Tom did that a while ago, it's pretty easy to do, but not very efficient or viable for long-term use.

"How to integrate a CD shelf into a PC"...

Not sure if it counts as ghetto... but I DID do a hack job of cutting out the fan grills (relocating the power buttons also got rid of any restriction left over) and bashing out the tabs locking in the front bezel.

maybe I'll get those Sennheiser foldable headphone thingies when I get a real sound card. But oh well, they perform decent enough for cheap $30 Sony headphones from Japan. LOL.

useing a usb2 cd-rom external box to transfer some data to a 80GB WD drive, it was getting hot so i rigged up a little cooling solution, it actually works pretty good :)

Laptop was overheating while playing a few games, so I rigged up a cooling solution:

My "laptop stand" is made from the box my Microsoft mouse came in. The wire below the the black case fan leads to an old molex fan I grabbed off an AMD PC.

Here's the power supply for the two fans:

LOL! Actually, it wasn't a new box at all. Had it for about nine months now. Anyway:

Before Fan:
CPU: 52 degree C
HD: 41 degree C

After Fan:
CPU: 47 C
HD: 35 C

I hope I get to eat tonight!

Nice, a 5 degree drop on the CPU and a 6 degree on the hard drive. You may have your .5 foodstamp back.

You may purchase a day-old bagget, three slices of moldy cheese, and one package of expired bacon.

Happy eating!

1 foodstamp for the fan mounting, otherwise it's not ghetto

Since the first two are the same pc, then the score is simply averaged out and added to the rest. Which means, 3 foodstamps.

Dude your pictures make me feel sick not because of the 'Ghettoness' because of the quality. Sorry just the truth

A lot of people seem to be a fan of the CoolerMaster Stacker 845378s or whatever they're up to now. But not me, I can't afford them. So here's my ghetto-ized (yet still surprisingly quiet) Centurion 5 (first work with a dremel too. . .):

ghetto.jpg

hey im not gonna lie, good start with the dremel, but you should use one of the "designer" grill covers to cover up those imperfect circles. yes i called the designer grill covers because u know what i mean.

Lol. That is ghetto enuf, like look at it. What's the point of the window? Just make like 50 wholes and put 4 case fans inside of them.

I'll show you my shitty MX510 paint job when It dries and I put it back on the mouse again. We'll see how the Krylon Fusion works.

I'm redoing the foodstamp scale.

So my dad was like "build me a cheap Vista rig"

And I'm like, "tight man, k"

SO I purchase some cheap parts: 3500+ for $50, some crap mATX asscrap mobo for $30, 1gb ram for $50, and ATi x550 for $25. Hella tight.

So I build the rig in some POS beige full tower and I realise "wtf"

There is a passive heatsink on the motherboard chipset and and passive heatsink on the ATi. Oh sweet, a personal heater...isn't that just ubar cool. So I was like "screw it" and ripped up my shoebox from payless shoes and some mailing tape and built a tight f'n duct for directional airflow. CHYEA. Check it:

picture002xw0.jpg

YEah, that fan is in place with SANDPAPER wedged inbetween the slot covers. HELLA TIGHT.
Starting the duct:
picture001nq1.jpg

One fan in front, one fan in back. Both push it up the ramp and into the passive heatsinks. But what about the air leaking from the sides? Oh shizzzzzzz
picture003ko0.jpg

YEah, that works
Still empty space for the air 2 escape up front
picture004ul3.jpg

So I used my BRain:
picture007rz5.jpg

Word.
Lookin' PImp in the back:

Another fan to COol the RAm:

Cut a wedge for the SAta cable with tin snips:
picture008jj8.jpg

The whole setup:
picture009iz8.jpg

And the HD
picture010bt1.jpg

Temps are excellent, and I still got HAlf my shoebox left. WERD!

Actually, the ULI chipset produces next to no heat. It runs fine without a heatsink on it even.

0 foodstamps
+1 for cardboard
+1 for the fan-retention module in the back
+1 for clear tape

3 food stamps.

Oh, thought it was the asrock 939esata sli or something. On my dual-sata2, the chipsets ran cooler than the cpu, which was watercooled.

That's hot, or rather, cool.

I had a 939dual as well, and yes, the chipset ran VERY cool. I was thoroughly impressed with the ULi chipset.

NF4 is just a nasty, hot running beast, whereas ULi is deadly efficient :)

I just got a new case and wanted to document my favorite part of my old one, so here it is:

My Raidmax case had a single 60mm grill composed of a few 3mm holes drilled in kind of a circle. Not the best cooling. I wanted to put a 80mm fan back there, but there wasn't a flat space big enough to accomodate one. What to do? Well, I had an old Thermaltake PSU with a low profile fan in it so I yanked it out, and after a little time with some tin snips, pliers and HVAC tape, I got this:

It dropped my case and CPU temps by 7C each.
