Very quiet :D I did that because the stock fan was ever so noisy :D

Here's another pic showing the temps which I didn't have time to upload...

That's about 4C above other idle and this is funny makeshift HSF :p

nice, I did that with one of my video cards (cause the fan broke)

but why didn't you just take a screen shot of your desktop instead of taking a picture? :p

ok, so its been like this for a while.... i am working ona new home for all this stuff (see worklog for project: transfusion) it all works great and get super low temps.... just looks like garbage. thought you guys might get a kick out of it though.
A crapass wire management job doen't make it Ghetto.

Oh yes it does! It's exactly the kinda thing you do when you're tired, it's late, you have NOTHING else to work with...or so you think. And hey, why the hell not just string up a bunch of string? Cheers mate, nicely ghettified.

Because I had the camera and thought I might as well :D Saves time kinda.

no but butchering a heatercore into an Exos sure as hell is! i think having the cooling loop for the VGA held together with electrical tape and sitting on my mose pad counts too. but hey, mabey thats just me.

Total cost: 10 bucks for paint, mini screwdrivers, sandpaper, and razor.

10 Dollar case + 10 dollar mod = this ghetto rig.

ahh the use of cardboad for a computer, a ghetto laptop anyway.......

ghetto waterblock for laptop that didnt leak until i put it in.....

laptop is a sA 1700+, GF 4 mx440, other random componets. the lappy would run but i ran out of ghetto supplies for another HSF. waterblock is a converted stock sA HSF with 6 bendy straw outlets, hose from kitchen sink sprayer, ducttape, more ducttape, vasaline for waterproofing, and some AL tape for bling

I dunno if I'd ever want a "laptop" like that on my lap with that grill-less fan so close.. :p

that's nice ghetto watercooling though. Probably a waste if you're getting the water directly from the sink heh

wouldnt be ghetto if it was all safe with a fan grill but anyway. the screen i stole off of my sisters gamecube

ok, my computer isn't exactly mod-ed, but the rack is...

here:
serverSteak_small.jpg

if you'll look closely, have a look at those rails that the server appears to be riding on in that rack.
does anyone else think that color looks just a little like pine?
thats because they're 2x4s.

next, allow me to direct your attention up to the thermometer, which as you can see, is a good bit into the nice balmy 'red zone'

and i'm sure you can't miss the two beefy steak, thawing on top.

now, heres the stuff you can't see:
- this rack is located in the laundry room of my house
- PII 500Mhz proc
- 384 Mb of ram
- 2 18GB LVD scsi HDD's
- creative audigy SBlive sound card
- 1 200GB seagate HDD
- 2 120GB seagate HDDs
- 3com 10/100/1000 NIC
- OS: knoppix 4.1

total spent: about $180
and not a lick of it is stolen

Not ghetto enough. Steal something from somebody and get it in the picture.

This thread can't get pushed back any farther! Time for some more ghettoness from a regular poster :D Not as ghetto this time, but close:

I'm going to get a real loop setup soon, so I knew that my tiny passive NB heatsink wouldn't do so well without much airflow in the case (going to just have psu fan and passive radiator for cooling), so I got a nice Zalman NB heatsZM-NB47Jink (ZM-NB47J) to replace the wimpy stock cooler (less than 1/2" thick). Unfortunately, it has these tiny little tabs that you must use to mount the cooler, and I of course lost one of them. Paper clips to the rescue!

About 15 minutes of bending gave me this, and it actually holds the tiny pushpins and screw supplied by Zalman.

Even though I'll hopefully have all this hardware, along with a new loop in my soon-to-be-modded Super Lanboy, I thought I might as well do some ducting right now. They haven't helped that much cooling-wise (maybe a degree or two) but they have definately made things quieter, and now I mostly hear a pleasantwhoosh from the fans instead of their buzzing and rattling (mostly from the gpu fan, which won't be there once I slap a Maze 4 on it). And the second shows that my paperclip mounting clip did indeed allow the pushpin to get in the mobo hole, although it did get bent a bit in the process (I don't care, the AS5 hasn't set at all and the nb is several degrrees cooler than before, with less airlfow).

Step back everyone, your about to get out-ghettod

Silverstone fan caused grill to vibrate, so I put a compressed air tab in between them to referee. I took the bottom plate off of the front so a second fan could get some intake (it is inside the hdd cage, you cannot see the second, upper one).

How about no:

I decided that my cpu ducting needed a muffler, so I recycled my microwave tomato soup cup (I won't take credit for the idea, someone did it a while back in this thread with Ramen cups). And yes, in that blurry picture there is my black cat's tail and a back leg (I think).

I took that stupid grill off and reversed the fan, so your safe for now. Ambient temps went down 5-6 C, CPU and MB wend down 3-4 C.

I call this one "Ode to a Prescot owner" :D The fans are running in that pic btw...guess the cam was to quick for them.

I know, its not a mod, but it is ultra ghetto (and looks even worse from outside, I assure you)

No, I don’t actually own a Prescott; Athlon 64 all the way! Seriously though, right before morning when it’s still cool I stick box fans in the bedroom windows and open up the backdoor. After 30 minutes (and one hell of a cross breeze) and the whole house is cool for the better part of the day without the need for me to turn on my AC.

...I have to put up with 5 fans on full blast for 30 minutes though :p

at least you have a damn ac!!! All i have is a ghetto swamp cooler, just a big ol' fan that blows air with a stream of cool water around it, which works ok in dry heat but once it gets humid its just blowing hot air. Try that and 5 ceiling fans in a house, im basically fucked this summer.

Heh, we don't have ANY kind of cooling in my house... then again, we do live in the high desert...
