So this is with with one stock speed 8800GTX, and a E6600 at 3.1Ghz, correct? Nice scores!

So a comparison to show how CPU limited:

3dmark05:

A64 4000 stock+: 12,000
E6600 at 3.1Ghz: 17,615

3dmark06:

A64 4000+ stock: 6,500
E6600 at 3.1Ghz: 10,862

There's no point or logic to compare '06 total number, because CPU-portion contributer too big % of the whole score. Instead, you should compare shader 2.0 & 3.0 scores and forget tolta/cpu score for good!

I remember a few computer builders used to sell computers online by how many 3dmarks they received. ROFL!

So with an opty 170 at 2.6 its better to run a gx2 or 79sli?? untill the "need" for dx10 is here ??? @ 16x10

Well, the CPU also contributes to the SM2.0/3.0 score as well. A slower CPU will give lower shader scores and vice versa.

So any more word on how loud these things are? Maybe some more detail explanation? :)

About the same as my 7800GT, maybe a little bit quieter.

Yes, of course it affects to SM2/3 performance etc., but 3dmark's result would correlate a lot better with real world applications without cpu-score.

Certainly would be the case but as I recall with your Fear benches for instance, the actual difference having a lesser CPU made was minimal.

I don't suppose either of you guys have Flight Simulator X? If you do, how does the card run this game?

Enjoy the purchase guys - looks like one hell of a card. :)

Nah, not really, the llamas that do nothing but "play" 3DMark are the ones that get OWNED when they try to actually play a REAL game against another REAL player.

I buy a gaming card to play GAMES....a benchmark is nothing but some silly eye candy, even more so that it has nothing to do with the actual performance of most modern games.

Any person that plays 3DMark all day long is not truly a [H]ard person...maybe they should go over to tomshardware or something, that's more the style of action they are after....

hey man, i was nice in my response, you should open your mind to the fact that the old saying "different strokes for different folks" applies here well, there's no reason to demean my enjoyment by making remarks like that, i happen to be bored with PC gaming right now, and benchmarking and the challenge to achieve a higher score than the next guy is no different than you trying to beat the other guy in a game, it's what we like to do, i dont consider you any less "[H]ard" for thinking benchmarking is lame, you dont dig it, cool, but some people do, there's two sides to every coin, i was just trying to make the point that some people actually do enjoy benchmarking and tweaking their system as much as you like gaming, neither is more "valid" or "real" than the other, merely different approaches to gratification
:D

** on topic **

so where's the new Rydermark results guys ??!!

I'd just like to take a moment to thank Mike for his contributions. Rather than enjoy your purchase, you've spent the entire day running benchmarks and tech demos by request, and that's always appreciated. You're [H]ard in my book, sir.

TheRapture said:
A good video card is a terrible thing to waste....on a junky ass benchmark with no real correlation in the real world of actual games.
If you firmly believe that 3DMark has no correlation to actual gaming scenarios, you have blinders on to the world, my friend. Love it or hate it, 3DMark is still, as the name implies, a 3D benchmark, and is, albeit partially, indicative of real-world gaming/real-time rendering performance.

um those weren't oblivion, they were WOW if I'm not mistaken that didn't recognize the card.

As I said earlier this is a non-supported card as far as nVidia drivers are concerned.

on a side note: I want one!!!111

funny how Nvidia kept this card so quiet for so close to launch, and now we have retail chains and e-tail chains selling them without any markup nearly a week before the launch....LOL

I think WOW was his desktop wallpaper, if you look at the title bar in the window it says Oblivion.

Is that an old Digidesign Core card or the like? In any case, it's a curious thing.

I'm not sure about you, but when I intend to think, I do so in accordance with the defined rules and structure of English.

no rules apply, grammar and punctuation are null here, enjoy being lazy, it's fun, i too am a stickler for proper grammar and sentence structure when i write with pen to paper, but not here

Ah, sorry about that, should have been more specific. Haste266 mentioned he was pulling 9.5k in 3DMark06 yet 29min/48avg/99max in FEAR. I think those numbers just show how little 3DMark really matters as it was pretty much a flip of how your setup performed, considerably lower in 3DMark yet a hefty improvement in FEAR.

Two questions-

Will this fit in my Antec Super Lanboy?
And will my FX55@3ghz be decent enough for this bad boy?

The credit card is out and ready for the first Evga or BFG that comes available for MSRP.

Ugh... I just went and rebuilt my main machine to deal with the noise from the cooler on my X1900XT CF card... Got some good airflow going and lowered the noise level but even still I've got temps in the high 70s to low 80s under load. Tried replacing the stock cooler with a Thermalright HR-03 and it lowered the noise quite a bit but the temps are still about the same level. If this card is even hotter than that and is that long, what type of case are you guys using to get it to fit and stay cool??? An Antec 900 series or something? I've got a P180 and it's a tight fit with the X1900XT!

1. It goes about 1.5 inches past my MSI K8N SLI motherboard, if that means anything.

2. You will do considerably better than me with my 2.4Ghz A64, but considerably worse than the guy with the 3.1Ghz Conroe.

So...do I have to wait for some Maze5s or do the mounting holes have the same spacing/positioning as the 7900 series?

Everything mounts the same as the 7900 did.

If you have a P180, why on earth are you using the top HDD bay? That thing needs to come out ASAP. That will improve you airflow 10 fold and allow any size GPU card you want in there. I've got a P180B and it's got TONS of room and airflow. Remove the air filters too - they REALLY stop the airflow in the P180.

I'm used to near-silent computing and I really hope this card is not annoying. I don't want to hear it.

C'mon Mr. Zalman! Do your copper magic!

Thanks, but really after much deep thought.. if it doesnt fit.. screw it. I'm cutting the case up.

The CPU will be fine I'm sure. Its no 3+ghz C2D but whatever. I'm hoping to upgrade my CPU when K8L comes out so we can get the "real" Conroes, and at even better pricing (I'm disappointed in the headroom the chips have and Intel is selling them at the current clocks). Example: the 2.999999ghz C2E. If I spend $1000 on a CPU at least give me a nice even steven 3ghz.. even if the clockspeed isnt as important as days past. $1000, give me at least a 3ghz conroe ftw plz.
I only want the extreme conroe though, I dont like the others. So we'll see what the C2E is clocked at on K8Ls release.

I tend to only overclock when I need to (such as with this 8800GTX purchase) :p

Thanks for that ewiz link. Mine came to $639 shipped. Anyone in need of an X19? :p
