Makes sense--sounds like they timed their filling of the channel just about right, even if that now means no incentive to cut prices.

For me such reason might be 3D Vision. I really enjoy 3D Gaming, and after checking the AMD and Nvidia solutions, Nvidia seems better for me. Also having already invested in 3D Screen and glassess, switching now to AMD cards would be a waste. To get 3D gaming there, I'd need to buy new display and new card.

That's why I'll stick to my single 570 - sold the 2nd as on 1920x1080 even in 3D, single 570 is enough - and am patiently waiting for some 670.

What I'd want from such card? Same, or lower power consumption as 570 and about 20% more oomph. Might even be inclined to get single 680, if it will offer about 40-50% more then 570, with same or lower power consumption.

that was the day i was waiting for my pm telling me how wrong i was about kepler. people were saying that it would be out in six weeks (feb 10), but that never happened. in fact it has been over six weeks since this thread started and there hasnt been any real news about kepler. by the time kepler comes out amd will have the 8 series ready.

No, he is saying 8000 series will be about ready when kepler finally launches... I really dont see it happening in march -- there isnt even solid rumors...

There actually are, from overseas forums and quite a few "rumors" on sites like the one posted right above me. Rumors are as solid as they get at this point pre-launch. It's likely March, at latest sometime in early-mid April by the looks of things.

The real high end GK110 Kepler will not be released until Q3 2012, by then AMD will be getting close to a 7970 refresh. The March/April Kepler GK104 is rumoured to be slightly slower than 7950/7970 but it is also rumoured to be priced lower. I hope a nice price war breaks out so the GPU prices drop to more realistic levels.

Right now I think AMD are obviously taking the piss a bit with prices, but considering the prices of GTX 580s for the past year, especially the 3GB versions, this pricing was inevitable. This is also not helped by unscrupulous price gouging by retailers.
 
1/6th double precision would be huge improvement compared to 570/580 running at 1/8 and 460/560 at 1/12th for boinc crowd.

GK104 is actually rumored to be faster than the 7950 and even catching the 7970 :p

They're definitely skimming the market right now, but I think that the overclocked 7970 will be positioned at the same level as the 6970 was relative to the 580 once GK110 is out.

If you go back in my thread you will see I quoted around Jan 18th.....

As the rumors are flying the GK104 does exist right now. Like I said retail availability should be soon.

The GTX 580 debut at PDXLAN and was available in full retail that Monday after the LAN...

It might happen again... PDXLAN is this weekend....

They wont be releasing any specs, I fully expect them to be using one of their current cards to try and slow sales of the 7k series.

Though, give credit where credit is due... Nvidia is extremely good at it. Their actual products may be another story, but their marketing seems very well studied and targeted.

Pdx lan has had a Marine recruiting station there. I advise against stealing the card b/c they will happily run you down. Nice guys though. I managed to bust out 10 pullups. Pretty good for my out of shape butt.
 
I am excited. I can't wait.

There is going to be a poker tourney , a MW3 tourney and a BF3 tourney all in the same weekend with all the vendors demonstrating products. This LAN is going to be EPIC!
550 Gamers in one room is pure awesomeness. This is like my 12th PDXLAN. If you live in the Northwest (or anywhere in the world ) and love a fun LAN you should look into the next one.
