No 5090 - Cool!

Hey fellas. Anyone using NowInStock.net? I had an alert go off by email at 5:46pm CST for the most ridiculously priced card... I think because I hesitated I didn't get it because I had the card in my cart... It was the ASUS - ROG Astral NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090.

https://a.co/d/8mihDB3

I couldn't believe the price in my Amazon cart... $3,079.99. I had to double check if that was retail and sure enough it was.

Suffice to say everything happened super fast and I couldn't get it in time. Was gone in an instant. I still think I would have had buyer's remorse had I spent that much... In a way I am glad I didn't get it and I am also sad.

Still no local supply of 5090s. I am honestly getting so fucking aggravated with this bullshit that I am contemplating buying a 9070XT as a holding solution even though it would be suboptimal for running 7680x2160.

Walmart scalper has a Gaming Trio for $5,000 - been up for a couple days and if it's the same unit, hasn't sold. So I guess that's a positive sign. 🤷‍♂️

I am about to rage. Seriously. I get an alert as soon as a 5090 comes online to Amazon in stock... Shows 13 available. Add to cart immediately and gone. How the fuck is this possible?!? People will say it's bots, but if that's what I have to do then how the hell do I compete with that? How do I get a bot? Why don't retailers block transactions that check out unusually fast like this? I am already signed in to Amazon, the alarm goes off on NowInStock.net, I click the link, and click the Add to Cart button within 5-10 seconds but yet 13 or whatever amount is able to be checked out before I can even get a shot?

This makes absolutely no sense and is the most insanely frustrating thing ever.

They don't block because they don't care. They just sold all the cards, so there's no problem from their perspective.

I just experienced this same fucking bullshit on Amazon. I have one click ordering turned on and still couldn't buy them fast enough.

And then they go right up on eBay. I search nearby Facebook Marketplace and sometimes I just want to respond to those listing with a picture of a middle finger. I think I just have to let it go for now that it's unlikely I'll be getting anything for a while.

I’m not convinced that the nowinstock alert is always timely.

In the early days of the 4090, completely by coincidence, I was at the BestBut website when I refreshed the page and suddenly there was 4090 stock available. I immediately added the card to my basket and discovered when I went to pay that my credit card details were incorrect. By the time I sorted it out the cards had all been sold.

I had flagged BestBuy at NowInstock but the alert came a long time after the cards had actually sold out.

Yes, it’s anecdotal. But there it is.

Our best bet is to hope the rumour about a glut of 5090s on the horizon is true - but now we might be looking at massive tariffs.

A lot of uncertainty at the moment.

I've been experiencing this crap since the 5090 launch began. I've been trying any time day or night cards show up in stock. I've gotten further F5'ing on the websites of the usual suspects than I have off the stock alerts. I've only managed to get a card added to my cart about a half dozen times or so but I've never been able to pay for it before they go out of stock.

Yeah I actually ordered a PS5 like that during the height of COVID when nobody was getting them in stock. Just happened to pop into stock. However this was different. There is a 60 second refresh time between stock checks at NowInStock, but just like what likely happened with Dan I got to the Amazon page I clicked Buy Now immediately and it was gone. Like within 10 seconds of the alarm going off. I was right there when the damn thing was in stock and I still wasn't fast enough. I seriously don't understand why this happens with every Nvidia generation. Why not delay launching until you can release an appropriate level of stock? It happens every year so you'd think they'd know by now.

That being said it's entirely possible the card was in stock up to 59 seconds before the alarm went off due to the 60 second refresh timer, but who knows. When I got to the page it said there were 13 in stock by the time I clicked the button.

Just like my PS5 purchase I chalk up your 4090 Best Buy stock to just being luck. Right place at the right time.

The NowInStock alarms = unreliable and late. The key to using that site is to watch the chat. People will post stuff there long before anything ever shows up in the ticker/alarm, if it ever even does. The community is also shockingly non-toxic for a site like that. People are legitimately helpful, if not a little downtrodden thanks to the 5090 launch. I've used the chat to buy all sorts of things in the past and I could have bought a couple of the pricier 5090's along the way. I refused to drop more than $3K for something that's supposed to be a grand less than that, so fuck that noise. Unless an FE falls in my lap (which I'd still welcome), I'm officially waiting on Whatever Is Next™

I am trying to find the chat you are talking about. I went into the Discord but there is nothing there but stock alerts and nobody is talking.

If that rumour about Nvidia ramping up production to an absurd level has any merit then in April we should see good stock - but now I’m seeing talk of absurd price hikes due to tariffs. The 5090 is already too expensive.

Just got bamboozled again. Amazon had some 5080s... and as soon as I try to one click buy they are gone...

There were plenty of 5080's showing in stock last night. Several were showing as having between 1 and 3 cards. If it was the card I wanted, I think I'd have been able to get a 5080 fairly easily. I've had many opportunities.

Best Buy just now randomly had 5080s... was in the "line" but by the time Best Buy verified my account and had me login they were gone... of course. It was this one: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-t...0-graphics-card-black/6613333.p?skuId=6613333

I got an alert 5090's were in stock on Amazon. I went to the site and it showed 16 cards in stock. They were sold out before I could complete the transaction with one-click ordering.

Yup. Same here. Had an alert for 2 different 5080s as well within the last 10 minutes. Gone in an instant. Was trying on my phone and computer at the same time and couldn't place the order. I was able to add it to my cart but never got further than selecting the shipping address.

There seriously is a special place in hell for scalpers. I am going to research how I can get a purchasing bot... this is ridiculous.

In the 6th Best Buy "line" today. I am starting to think these are a waste of time. Every time I get past authenticating my account it just says the item is not available within 250 miles of me. The item page itself also always says the item doesn't ship.

I've never gotten that far. I'm always in line until it says "Sold out".

Yeah most of the time it ends with being sold out, and then other times it will say "this item is not available within 250 miles of you."

From my vantage point Best Buy looks overdue for a 5090 Founders drop.
I've never gotten that far. I'm always in line until it says "Sold out".
When that happens see if you can click again and get back in line.

$3,079? That's actually not a horrible markup. The Astral is the Super OC version and has an MSRP of $2799. If you've got the dough then that is worth the price since it's the extreme performance version of the 5090 that pushes its ability even beyond Nvidia specs.

Was able to secure a 5080 from Newegg a little while ago. I have 30 days to return it to Newegg. Still holding out for a 5090.

Was in stock non-stop for at least 5-10 minutes. Even after placing my order I came back half a dozen times and was in stock for a little while.

Saw a white Gigabyte 5090 go on preorder and then change to an order on Amazon just now. I was there on the page before the nowinstock alarm even went off and it sold out immediately as soon as I clicked the Buy Now button.

There is no way that more than 1 or 2 get listed at once with how fast these get scooped up. I really really really hope that bunch of idiots get stuck with these cards and make no profit. I wish I could tell them to get a fucking job too.

You’re assuming too much here.

There are no high-end cards, period. I have a 4090, and because gaming is so important to me during my two off days I’d be forced to pay a crazy amount of money to replace it if it were to conk out on me.

The people buying these cards are likely just desperate gamers.

Let's you add to cart then says it had to remove from cart..lol
Damn... They even had a 5090 combo but it was like $3600 and I was legit staring at it in my cart because I don't need the case, psu, and motherboard it was bundled with. The 5090 on it's own was $2550. I just couldn't do it.

Yeah Newegg and their combos. I think I'm done looking tbh. This is unneeded anxiety and I will say it "I'm getting to old for this s&%t!"..lol

Sure, stopping scalpers is hard, but if online retailers with US relations got fined for selling scalped goods...

So boys I just bought a MSI combo for a 5090. Website was crashing left and right and not loading. Frankly... not feeling too happy... Feels like MSI themselves are scalping me...

$2,700 just for the video card, and then they bundle a $700 PSU into the mix... Looking on eBay they are full of these PSUs and i'll likely get $500 back before fees and shipping if I include the $100 steam voucher.

Honestly not sure yet if I will keep this. I've never owned a MSI card. Are they decent? I've bought ASUS since EVGA got out of the game.

Which site was that - msi direct? If you don't want it, I'd take it - and I can find a use for the damned PSU even too.

MSI is awesome man. My MSI 4090 SUPRIM X has been SOLID, a great overclocker and runs insanely cool. I also have an MSI motherboard, 0 issues. Like you, I was eVGA for over a decade, so I jumped to MSI for the 4xxx series. I'll likely go with MSI if I ever find a MSI 5090 Suprim.

MSI cards are very good cards. All the ones I have owned have given me zero issues. Still have a 1080 TI Duke in a system here.
