New 360 Revealed

I don't see how anyone can dis on the new xbox360. For the same cost of the elite xbox360 you get:

- Larger 250GB hard drive
- Built-in wireless N network card
- 5 USB ports (2 front, 3 back)
- Optical S/PDIF port added to back on console
- Kinect port
- Smaller
- Quieter
- Less heat
- Looks better imo and matches other electronics better

All great addictions.

Plus, this year there are new features for all xbox360's:

- USB memory stick support (upto 16GB, max 2)
- Kinect
- ESPN Channel

My xbox 360 elite just broke had it for 3 years the Warrantyjust went up in 09. I didnt run out and buy a new one or do anything yet was debating on just getting it fixed and now a couple days later they announce the super new xbox that looks pretty sick. So I'm thinking of just buying the new one to replace my broken 360. Question is to buy a Warranty plan or not ???

as long as it's still covered by the standard 3 year warranty for E74 and RROD i don't see why you'd need a warranty.

on the other hand it's new hardware so who knows what could happen. I guess peace of mind says you should bite the bullet and buy it, but i wouldn't. i'm guessing MS would be extra careful at this point, but given their track record, who knows.

Elites are down to $249 and Arcades can be bought for $99 when you include the free $50 GC you get at Target or Walmart.

Personally I think the slim is ugly; I like the white 360 better than the black Elite or the slim.
I don't need the wireless, and being a cpu+gpu all in one chip design, sorry - I don't have faith in the first few initial batches of the system. I have 0 faith in Microsoft regarding 360 R&D. I've had a Xenon Pro repaired 4x, IMHO the safest 360 to go with at this point is a Jasper one which is still a separate cpu and gpu, smaller die process, practically the same board as they've all had. If I wanted a slim, I'd wait awhile to buy one...but I don't want one. I didn't want a slim Ps3 either, and I haven't gotten one - I've stuck with the fat.

I'm going to pick mine up tomorrow :D Still deciding whether to sell my old white 360 "Pro" online or just try to trade it in to smooth over the cost of the new 360 at GameStop. I know GS screws you big time, but I really have no use for a second 360.

I'd find a local game store (that's not GS obviously) to sell it at or just put it up on craigslist or eBay.

- Larger HDD is behind the times. MS should have let you swap the HDD like Sony did years ago... My PS3 has been rocking a 250gb hdd since 2007.
- Once again, behind the curve of the competition. Should have included wireless at launch built in.. the WII and PS3 did
- Do you really use that many usb ports? I've never used the USB on my 360 except for plugging in a controller now and then.
- Optical. Once again, behind the times, welcome to 5 years ago. Moving it from the AV cable to the back of the console is hardly a "feature"
- Smaller/Quieter/ Less Heat. So you're basicly praising MS for fixing things that were flat out design flaws? These should have been fixed before the 360 launched not 5 years later.

- New design... Very objective, some love it, some hate it. I personally think the new 360 looks awesome.

As for the cost. In my opinion, the 360 is overpriced for what you get. The new 360 continues that trend.

QFT - Then you wouldn't have to pay out the ass to upgrade.
It's aggravating enough that MS charges for online play when they host no games, but they really fleece people on peripherals, even worse than anyone else when you consider the HD per-GB costs for their "proprietary" HDs and their WiFi adapters.

People can dog Sony all they want; it cost me $50 a year ago to upgrade from a 20gb to 160gb and it took 2 minutes.

Upgrading my 360 HD was a bigger PITA than it should have been. I did it the hard way (flashing my own drive) but it was either that or paying 3x the cost of the drive itself.

Good post. I approve.

Wow, some people just arn't happy unless their bitching about something  Go fill Sony pockets then with your money, MS won't miss you.

He's right on #1, there isn't even a doubt there. If you think charging what MS does for HDs is fair considering what they actually cost, then your vision is clouded by excessive kool-aid drinking.

#2 is important to some people (not to me). It would be nice however wired is fine and I don't have to have wireless. Considering that wireless cards cost laptop manufacturers probably less than $5 bucks, it's a bit questionable that Microsoft didn't bundle in wireless to begin with, only to charge $100 for a "proprietary" USB WiFi adapter.

#3 is anecdotal; really only 1-2 is necessary, however depending on accessories (ie Rock Band instruments for instance), having more than 2 ports is helpful.

#4 and #5 are based on the questionable design philosophies.

Your reply to his post shows that you consider his post fanboy in nature, so you reply fanboy in nature yourself. I consider his post as justified criticisms. Maybe he tinges it with a little fanboy sprinkle, but it's still justifiable criticisms IMHO. You could argue similarly about why Sony went from HW BC to SW (software) BC to NO BC, removing USB ports, removing flash card ports, and from having Other OS to removing the feature to further lock down the system (their excuse), I'd say those were also justifiable criticisms. There's a big difference between kool-aid drinking/fanboy bias to criticism; maybe you see his post as fanboy bias, but I see it as (rightly-deserved) criticism.

My post is far from a fanboy criticism. zero2dash is right. It is an objective view of what I think of the new 360.

To be a fanboy I would have to hate MS. My 120gb Elite and stack of about 20 360 games says otherwise. I am lucky enough to be in a financial situation where I can afford all 3 consoles and a gaming Pc. Having the hands on perspective of using each device in my daily life, I simply express my opinion on what MS did with the new box. My opinion is basically summed up as too little to late. I'm disappointed, as a fan of videogames, and as a fan of the 360 I wanted the new 360 revision to really throw some great new features in there. It didn't, so I am disappointed. It also didn't come with a price drop which boggles my mind.

zero, also has a great point. Sony did drop features from the ps3 to the slim. However, that also came with a $100 price drop so it is more justifiable. Looking at the 2 consoles objectively, the PS3 has more value in my eyes than the 360. Both have strong points and both have weaknesses. Both have great exclusives. Looking at just the hardware however, the PS3 is a much more interesting machine for the $300 than the 360. That is the jist of my point. I had hoped that the redesigned 360 would either feature some great new additions, or come with a nice price drop. Neither happened.

I agree
come one ps3 comes with bluray the 360 doesn't yet still costs the same ~

I've had a 250GB harddrive in my PS3 for 2.5 years now. I paid $130 for it at the time.

So if they are discontinuing the old ones, what happens if my Elite breaks in a year will they send me a new one, or will they keep a bunch of old ones lying around to use for warranty type stuff.

Ouch, did I hit a nerve?

I was simply commenting on how the price bought you very little in improvements over whats out there. The new 360 brings nothing new to the table that others haven't already put out. For current owners of a 360, it brings abolutely nothing. But I guess you really don't want to have a discussion on here, you'd just rather live in fanboyville. Especially since your reply didnt really address my point that all the new 360 has are technologies and fixes that are a few years late.

I don't think you hit a nerve with him. I think you were just being annoying.

If you have a stand alone Blu ray player there is no reason to get a PS3.

There is uncharted and a couple other exclusives....but just a couple. IMO of course.

You could plop a new one in...just had to be an XBox HDD.

Had they included wireless in 2006, it would have likely been Wireless G, AND would have raised the price

USB ports for: External USB drives, Rockband, a Zune if you like, controllers (charging, and wired controllers) the HD DVD drive...even a KB if you like. Plenty of good reasons to have USB. You're bitching because they added something some people might want, and some people might not value...but does it HURT to have it added? Nope.

Optical: The dongle was a pain once they added HDMI. Again, the 360 design hit the market BEFORE the PS3 did.

Heat: Sorry, PS3 owners have the YLOD, and the original PS3s were loud if I remember right. Just a huge blower in them. Sony had the same issues, they just solved it with a giagantic blower. Various 360 revs have brought the heat under control. My latest Arcade unit is pretty silent already, doesn't churn much heat.

That is solely your opinion. I become a fanboy of whatever I own, so my loyalties change all the time. Currently, I am a die-hard PC fanboy. But I feel that the PS3 has more than enough exclusives to warrant a purchase. And yet in my current
fanboy state, I'd rather purchase a new Radeon or Geforce than a PS3. :D

They will send you a refurbed Elite most likely. They still have the original 20GB models being sent out to people. You have to remember how many of these systems have failed ... epic tons. There are plenty to be refurbed, refurbed, refurbed and reburbed again to send out to you.

Or you could just end the pathetic cycle and buy something better.

that is true

actually I don't even know where my ps3 is after I moved...........

I'm not bashing the ps3, i have one. I;m just going by the numbers. More exclusives for the 360, better online experience. It's the best non pc gaming experience.

Although the ps3 has some exclusives dropping soone

Youre probably right. Too bad your post got all douchey at the end.

I suppose I'll bite though. What could I buy that is better? Besides the fact that I have a ps3, the 360 has more exclusives and a better online experience. So that means better for gaming than the ps3. Fanboy.

behind the times? laughed at this.

up until this point, the xbox didn't offer one single unique feature that the other consoles did. i honestly don't see why people are still buying this console.

MS is laughing all the way to the bank with that one. People said the same about Nintendo's Wii.

Apparently, you just don't and never will get it.

well then perhaps you should do a better job of persuading me as to why i should purchase this product so that i can "get it." :)

Yea thanks. I think I'll just put it on eBay :D

On a related note...for those who are getting/have a new Xbox and had an old Xbox of some kind; did you bother or are you going to bother buying the Data Transfer cable to get everything over to your new Xbox, or are you just going to do the whole exporting your gamer profile to a USB thumbdrive an re-download your maps/DLC/whatever? How much data comes with the profile export BTW? Can you put your game save files on a USB thumb drive or is that where'd you need to buy the transfer cable?

my room mates and i each have our own special thumb drive for our saved games and gamer tags. its great that there are 5 usb slots on the new xbox because now we can each have our own thumb drive in and still have room for charging controllers etc

I just saved my critical game saves to a USB drive. The rest will just carry over with my live account and i'll redownload everything as I need.

Alright thanks guys, appreciate it :D
Glad I can avoid that $25 cable fee, that little nickel and dime job from MS would've bothered me more than buying the whole console :p

Live? Zune integration? First to offer Netflix? Unique games? What I'd call a comfy controller - the PS3 ones always felt wrong. The fact they came out first?

People buy it because of the games on it. Because some developers pay more attention to the 360 by developing on it first, then porting to the PS3 (Ghostbusters!) or even because of the three screens in the cloud thing...Zune on the 360 is pretty persuasive. Buy a HD movie for your Zune at 720P, DL it on your console in 1080P...all for the price of the movie...oh, and you can redownload it whenever. It also is a media center extender, which is great to pair with your Windows box that you can set up as a DVR...

To me the 360 is a no brainer, from games like Halo, GOW, Mass Effect and Alan Wake to it's media options, I love it. If you don't see any need for the 360 though, fine...but because you see no need doesn't mean that no one else should see a need for it. We all have our own opinions.
