I definitely plan on getting this...but I also want to play the optimal version of the game...

MH:W Producer: "When the game launches the visuals will have parity with the console versions but we’re considering releasing a free update after launch."

that tells me that they will be releasing an HD texture pack of some kind...plus the PC version is missing all the DLC...so I'm going to resist the temptation to buy now when a much improved version is potentially a few months away (plus it'll be more optimized as far as performance and bug fixes)

putting 300+ hours into it now doesn't make sense for me...gameplay always trumps graphics but when you can get both why not wait for it...yes frame rate, loading times and resolution are better on PC but I'm a texture whore...plus Shadow of the Tomb Raider is also coming out next month so that will keep me busy

All of the non-cosmetic DLC has been free, so that's not really a reason to wait.

True, but most of it requires that you be a certain level to access, so you're not doing yourself any favors by waiting.

lock on is a bit strange this game. like impossible to use if more than one enemy is there. that is fine. but it seems like movement is also a bit strange, A lot of whiffs. but then I am on KB/M, meybe it is different with a controller. Also... I guess experimenting with different weapons is somewhat mandatory.

Step 1: Don’t ever use lock on
Step 2: Use a fast weapon until you learn the game
    Step 3: Get a controller
Step 4: Seriously don’t ever use lock on
    Step 5: Commence with looting

If you want to use KBM, try Light Bowgun. Then figure out which ammo types work best for the gun and stop carrying other types of ammo.

KBM in this game was a decent attempt, but it still sucks compared to controller.

Performance seems pretty good so far.

do you know before each hunt begins exactly what the monster's strengths and weaknesses are so you can go in with the right weapon/armor/ammo?...or do you only learn this after fighting it one time (like with Dark Souls)?

for the Dark Souls vets, what are people's impressions of the game, graphics, kb/m support etc?

I highly recommend turning on the "click to use" for the radial menu, as well.

Man, I forgot how much farming I did in this game to get to where I am now...lol. I think I'm going to try to use the Charge Blade this time, maybe.

You learn more about the monsters as you hunt them and gain Research Points. Collecting tracks and stuff gives you more knowledge of their weaknesses, drops, etc.

Of course, you can go online and look at a wiki for all that info, but it's cool that it's in the game now. Previous titles didn't have any of that.

why don't the monsters have health meters?...I want to be able to see how much more damage I need to inflict and get a rough idea of how long the fight will last...with each Monster fight potentially lasting 20-30+ minutes it seems annoying as hell not to have this info

CB is fun, man. It was my #2 weapon on PS4. Getting a SAED off on a mon's face is about the most satisfying thing in gaming lol.

That's just how the game is designed and has been part of the series from the get-go.

This is actually the first MH that even displays how much damage you're doing. Previous games you had no idea. Honestly, it kinda adds to the fun of it. There are minor queues you can look for (ie monster displaying damage on his model), but for the most part you just get a feel for when a monster is close to dying after you fight them a few times.

This. But, you do know when a monster is tired or weak, as it will start panting/drooling in place or limping off to another area respectively. Also, if you get your research level high enough, it will show a skull on the minimap over the monster, indicating that it has 25% HP or less left.

I guess it's all part of the MH mystique and appeal lol...I guess you get used to it after a few monsters but I'd still prefer some sort of visual health bar...I heard they start limping or changing colors or drooling etc which are clues...you can definitively tell this is from a Japanese developer as there is no hand holding or spoon feeding of info

My biggest advice is to try more than one weapon. If you don't like the first thing you pick, try something else. The weapons are different enough that they can make the entire game feel different.

edit: UGH. Starting over makes me realize just how much crap I have farmed on PS4 LOL. Not having infinite flash bombs and pots is odd.

Want to know something else crazy... All of the weapon moves and combos you can do right now are all of the moves you will ever get. Newer weapons never get new moves, just more stats and skills.

in a way it's refreshing to get every weapon right from the beginning rather then the usual unlock method in 99% of games...you can then practice and learn all the various movesets to see which ones you feel most comfortable using...seems like you need to do this as certain weapons work better against certain monsters

    Couple more tips:

Make sure you register Bounties as often as possible. They give you Research Points and armor spheres for doing them, and it's stuff you'll be doing anyway (collecting plants / mining / hunting monsters). You get access to it right after doing the camp expedition quest.

Looks like the weekly bounties are for some of the starter monsters, so people should be able to get those done as well.

Make sure you are keeping up on your weapon and armor upgrades. You don't need to upgrade constantly, but if you find your DPS or defense to be below what you think, check to see if there are upgrades available.

I have no personal plans to play this game, but my brother does. He currently has an i7 2600 and GTX 750 Ti. Apparently according to some online you can play it but with iffy frames at low settings.

Can anyone comment about its performance optimisation for older hardware? He'd be playing at 1080p.

Volumetric Fog is a performance balls kicker and, personally, I think it looks like shit 95% of the time. Drops my FPS by 20 with it on @ 4K UHD.

I'm not sure...I only had the time to install it and go thru getting to the first city but when I selected 3440x1440 in the options after installing it was still 16:9...maybe it required a restart?

The fact that KBM support sucks means this game is a never buy from me. Controllers are garbage and don't compare to KBM.

I hear that KB/M support is actually pretty good in MH:W...plus I hear this about every game and I always use kb/m with no issues...all you need to do is remap the default keys...I even play (and dominate) all the Dark Souls games on PC with KB/M even though most people claim it sucks

art style looks great but those blurry textures really stand out making the image appear a bit soft...are you using FXAA or TAA?...both cause a bit of blur...this game needs a high-res texture pack badly...hopefully Capcom delivers...if the graphics can match the gameplay then this could be pretty special

Had my first difficult fight last night with the Puki-Puki or something like that monster. The fight wasn't hard overall, but for some reason I couldn't get the antidote to work. At the end of the fight I still had max antidotes when I know I used it (or at least tried) more than 2x during the fight. One of the faints was also a random bad luck encounter with Trex like monster that joined in. It was still a lot of fun though, finally got to get on top of the monster and stab at it all Shadow of the Colossus style (then be thrown off the beast as it ran only to be greeted by the awaiting attack of the Trex lol). Anyone know what the conditions need to be to do this? It just seemed as if it did it automatically like it was scripted for this particular monster. I don't remember seeing a prompt or even jumping on top of it to start it, it just happened. I was trying to do it again with the Great Jag lizard thing and couldn't figure out how to do it or if I could do it.

and ehhhhhhh. While I agree 99% of the time. This is one of those games where I feel using a controller is perfectly acceptable if you have one. Kinda like rocket league. But thats no excuse from what Im reading that KB/M feels like garbage.

In a game like this...couldn't disagree more. Keep in mind this is a game that has NEVER been on PC other than the MH:Online stuff in China.

That said, apparently they are working on the mouse movement - or at least the dev team is aware of the issues.

You have to make sure you let the drinking animation complete fully (you'll see a sort of flash on your character and it'll make a noise) for the Antidote to work. You'll also see your health bar go from purple to green again.

Once you get a bit further in, I highly recommend using Herbal Medicine instead of Antidotes - it's way quicker to eat and also heals you a little bit.

You can actually interrupt the animations for potions/etc. in this game, which is different from previous titles. So you could drink half of a potion, and then dodge roll, which will cancel the animation but also waste the rest of the potion. Kinda sucks when a monster roars and this happens, but it's not that frequent.
