Monster Hunter Wilds

I asked on Steam how to improve my skill issues hope to get some hints. I used the Longsword maybe I' m suppose to block or parry or move around differently.

Seems this is a good game. Did they at least improve the controls. Last monster hunter game I played had horrible controls on PS5.

Better with K+M? I am intrigued by this.

Controls aren't likely to be different, but you can remap and have a ton of control over your input types and various settings. I'm curious to know what about the controls you didn't like? I've played a lot of MH games on a variety of controllers and never had an issue with the controls in general.

You can use KB+M but I generally wouldn't say that's the best way to play. Maybe if you play Bow or one of the Bowguns, for the aim...

Holding a button just to use another button to smash a monster's skull was my biggest pet peeve. Also the reason why I did not play the expansions of previous monster hunter. I also never finished the modern MH because of the absolute grind it became to upgrade weapons and mission design being repetitive af. It was a few years ago so I don't remember much but did not like the controls or the repetitiveness of the game. Story was also incomprehensive to me. Anyways, this looks exciting plus I have some MH downloaded on PS5 so will try it before I buy this one.

I mean, the repetitive grind is the game. If that's not for you, that's totally fine. It took me like 3 attempts to get into MH when I first tried it, and for you it might never "click" if you find it too grindy.

FWIW several reviews seem to say it's less grindy than other titles, at least so far (pre-expansion).

Let's bump up the Monster Hunter thread!! I upgraded my PC because of the benchmark making my 13700k CPU 100c. Just upgraded to a Noctua G2 it's ugly CPU cooler which brought temps down to the high 80s.

I think the main complaint is going to be performance.

This is my third try with Monster Hunter. I enjoyed the last two games but always got distracted and never went back to them. Hopefully this time I finish it otherwise I think I’m done with the franchise.

Game's live. Performance seems improved from the beta but I just started so it's hard to tell. I feel like I got a lot more drops in the intro sequence in the beta, though.

Downloading the HD texture pack (70 GB!!!)

Peeps on Steam are complaining about crashes crazy must be pretty widespread based on replies.
Mixed reviews there are 10K reviews already. Monster Hunter World had Overwhelming Positive reviews for a while.

not really having performance issues. Running everything maxed out (RT off) at 4k using the new DLSS model in performance mode at 4k AND the high resolution Texture pack. Getting around 60-70fps... ...Using between 16-18.5GB of video memory too.

Having the new DLSS model is helping because it makes Balanced and Performance more tollerable.

No crashes so far. Performance is better than the beta but not by a huge margin. I'm probably going to get my 9800x3d upgrade done this weekend and then I'll try again on a fresh load.

Seems everyone says it's really good if you can get past the bad performance issues.

The HD textures are causing crazy stuttering and texture swapping issues, disabling them makes the game run a lot smoother. It's wild because it's not even maxing out my VRAM, nor should it. Seems like something is broken with texture streaming. They honestly don't look any better IMO.

Looks like they may have released a patch, I got a 200 MB download today.

This game is apparently doing double DRM duty like RE8 did when it launched, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the source of performance issues.

I've been playing with RT on. RT made the forest come alive more with more lively shadows and lighting. The desert made no difference. RT on/off, I do get some weird shadow errors every once in like 1-2hrs of play where the game just kinda vomitted a light beam/shadow from a single point. Look somewhere else on screen and its fine or if the monsters reposition themselves relative to the light its fine. GPU is running high 50s so it's not an overheat issue. I installed the hotfix nvidia drivers today as I did have the screen blank out randomly on desktop.

RT high performance isn't that bad either 1440 maxed out is around 144-160 fps, while RT off is just 150-165fps during combat. Seeing the forest after the rain RT off looked like crap.

Been having a ball with this game. Not yet in high rank, slowly making my way through the main questline. Sword n Shield feels like dual blades with more power and defense - very simple to use. None of the monsters are really challenging yet. My first wipe was from a monster doing some sort of one-shot AoE move that I was warned to hide from. I couldn't find anything to hide behind, so I just ran away. Apparently not far enough away. The wound system is fantastic. Automatically picking up "drops" from closing wounds helps to make almost a full suit of armor from a single kill. The story is the best I've seen in a Monster Hunter series yet. Still not Hollywood-level, but quite good. The audio's fantastic. The idle animations are superb - I spent 15 minutes following my Palico around camp, watching him do all kinds of random stuff. I play with an XBox controller and like the way the controls feel. Not quite as clunky as the previous title was - but it did take a bit to get used to.

4080/7950X3D, big boy textures turned on, every setting maxed, I'm averaging about 80FPS. One crash so far which I attribute to my CPU overheating (SFF case). It saved everything perfectly. No complaints.

Lemme put it this way: I pre-ordered. I paid full price. And even if I never play another minute of the game, I'm convinced I got my money's worth. If you're a Monster Hunter fan, I strongly recommend it.

Got to HR101. Plays a lot easier than previous MH games. Not a fan of decorations split into weapon or armor. Limits the builds. RNG is very kind in this game. I had most of the decos I wanted at the correct level just around HR50 and even the level 3 combo ones got easy to farm. I want a Razor Sharp/Handicraft one. Internet says it's a combo that exists, but has yet to drop. Rare monster drop parts like gems take 1-3 hunts to get. The field investigations SOS list shows you bonus rewards so you can just pick and choose a hunt that has a guaranteed drop of that 1 supposedly rare drop. Took me 4x as long in previous games to get to that ideal build due to rng.

I've decided to play MH World and rise while this one bakes or goes on sale. I never beat either so I'm starting with worlds.

Made it to high rank. Still working through the main storyline. Guessing I'm around HR35 or so. Finally had a fight that felt difficult - The second time you fight the Apex predators. Instead of 5 minute fights, I was spending 20 minutes. And a lot of that was "Oh shi..." moments. Fantastic fun.

I'm not sure yet if there's a reason to build the Artian weapons or not. It seems like duplicates of the regular stuff. Maybe it's so you can get lucky with RNG rolls?

Just got to HR, haven't had a ton of time to play but have been ramping up more. Fun game, Bow seems completely OP as it was in World, but I love it. I don't really care for the two fights that essentially have "figure out this gimmick in 2 seconds or you get insta-killed" as a mechanic, but beyond that crap it's all been great.

Don't bother with the Artian level 6 or 7 weapons. While the upgrade mats do get refunded, they aren't worth the farming effort as the base weapons to rarity 7 8 and 9 will carry you to end game and SOS hunts can help you quickly grab any rare pieces via rewards. Just pick the SOS missions for the particular monster that offers it as guaranteed. I never had to hunt more than 2x to get a missing gem or plate and mp hunts end pretty quick.

The artian weapons can finish off that build that the regular weapons cannot. Due to the decos splitting into weapon/armor, we are limited in how much affinity we can get or how many offensive items we can link together. The rarity 8 weapons come with 3 level 3 deco slots and can roll with 20% affinity at base, and +15% max with upgrades (rng here but you can game the rng seed to preview rolls)

So as a ls user, I have 35% base affinity from weapon, expert 3 gem for 12% more, maximum might 2 for another 20%, and Tenderizer level 4 for an additional 20% on weak points and 15% on wounds to cross 100%. Master's touch gem for 80% chance not to lose sharpness on crit hits. This let's me go potentially a whole fight without needing to sharpen my weapon. I did some testing, if I combine razor sharp 3 and master's touch, I could do almost 1000hits in white, but my current setup let's me do almost 350 to 400 on avg.
