Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Can anyone let me know how much it costs to upgrade from standard to the premium deluxe? I was just planning to start with the standard version for now and upgrade later when my flight stick arrives but I'm seeing topics on reddit that its actually a lot more to just upgrade.
just looked and the upgrades arent available right now on MSFT store or steam.

Feature wasn't working with the smaller crafts unfortunately. Tried with a 747 and used the active pause and went to look, and sure enough, there it was a few hundred feet over my driveway.
Wait, you paused the game and went outside and saw your plane frozen in the sky? How is that even possible

Supposedly the earth is hollow. Some one check it out. Entrance is at the north pole where all photography is censored.

Just finished installing (about 90 minutes to download and install, no issues.). Adjusted settings, think I picked medium and was getting about 40fps @1440p on the runway but will need to check to make sure because I wasn't really looking. Took off and flew for a few minutes. Was rather glorious. I opted for the no downloading assets for now, I'v been downloading a lot of games this month and need to be mindful of Comcasts wonderful 1 TB data cap... but the game still looked nice. I was using mouse/kb to play but need to try with a game pad at least until my flight stick arrives.

Gave me some good memories of when I use to play MS FS 98.

FML, my Logitech G940 doesn't have any forced feedback in this game. Defeated half the purpose of buying a 10 year old joystick. What a bummer. Hoping some future patch or profile will introduce Forced Feedback besides just the usual Xbox controller vibration....

its pretty sad that force feedback is basically dead tech.

Finally downloading, a truck hit my internet lines yesterday and took out both my primary and backup provider.

Does it come with software, mate? Have you tried other games?
yeah he needs the software, it controls ffb settings, and there was also a firmware update last fall.

Every so often I'm getting intermittent freezes. They last like 5-10 seconds then the game carries on completely normal. Running ultra everything. What's the likely culprit? Not enough RAM? I'm running on an i9 9900k, 2080 Ti, 16GB RAM.

same problem here, but I have 32gb of ram. Running on HIGH, 3800x, rtx 2060.

most likely system memory. at ultra you're probably looking at 20-25GB of memory usage.

check your gpu memory usage.

Really enjoyed the few hours I got to play around with this game. Maybe this is a dumb question (never played flight sims, just space games like Elite), but when I'm grouped with friends can I see them on the map? We're all newbs in flight sims and inevitably we'd become quite separated, if I couldn't visually see them in my area I had no idea how to find anybody.

depends what you're flying.. you could do GA stuff and fly together in a group but realistically you'll only ever be able to see them with external camera views. if you're using VATSIM you can have it show peoples names but would recommend flying in areas that don't have active ATC otherwise it screws stuff up for them. typically when we did group flights in XP11 we'd all just run the same flight path and then separate ourselves by altitude. but if you end up taking off from an airport that had an active tower then they'd just separate us by 5 miles which is the proper way to do it.

Got it today is is a performance nightmare even on a 2080 Ti according to reviews, my system does 30FPS on med at 2K. Still beautiful to look at.

I have the newest software & firmware for my Logitech G940 guys. The game just straight up doesn’t support forced feedback (at least with my joystick). The Xbox controller vibration works fine though and has its own dedicated option/slider. Forced feedback works in my older flying titles.

Sim is incredible...I gotta dust off my Warthog HOTAS....flying with KBM is bad...really, really bad lol

can anyone who has 64GB ram please test usage in a heavily populated area (such as NYC) with max settings and report usage? I’m seeing 29GB on my 32GB ram and already thinking of upgrading.

What a true next gen game. Brings my PC in my sig to its knees (lucky to hold 30FPS 4K in dense areas) I can confirm (from real time monitoring) the game utilizes ALL your cores/threads, system memory, GPU memory, GPU usage, etc. There isn’t a single bottleneck anywhere. I’ve never seen a video game push every single component to the max (probably even network usage too). Incredible. Can’t wait for a 3080Ti/3090 to hopefully be more consistent with 60 FPS.

it'll just allocate more memory to cache texture files if you have over 32GB, is it needed? no not really since the likely hood of those stored textures being used again in the same flight are pretty uncommon unless you're doing a long distance scenic type flight and returning back to the same airport.

Question for those that have flown over your own house: were you able to hear the plane overhead as it passed by?
I would like a feature where I could crash a plane into my neighbor's house. I hate that fucker.

Heads up (in case any others have slow ass internet and download through the night): thought I downloaded it last night - and I guess I got the initial download, but there's additional content you need to install through the game's download manager ingame (their recommended download weighs in at 91-ish GB).

I have a very hard time flying for over 20 minutes and NOT attempting a barrel roll lol....it usually does not end up well, but for a few select airline passengers they get to experience something ehhh....different hahaha....

Since I'm working from home FS2020 has been the ultimate screen saver, I plan a flight and then set the auto pilot to fly it while I work.

What were you flying and where? So far I've just messed with GA aircraft and I'm getting 40-50fps with an i5-6600k, 16gb, & GTX 1070 with everything on High settings - only thing I changed there was I turned off lens flare, that's it. The only other thing I did was move the Data Cache to a different physical drive, it's in the options to do so somewhere. I've also read AI air traffic creates quite a hit so I've just kept it on live air traffic. That said, I haven't flown over and massive cities yet, over Milwaukee I was still getting in the 40fps range though.

I thought it was weird that the Steam version is nothing more than a lite-executable which essentially launches the Microsoft (Store) version of the game. This is why the reviews have been "mixed" on Steam because it takes more than 2 hours to download the 93GB worth of data once the game launches for the first time and everyone is SOL when it comes to the 2-hour refund limit.

I kind of wish I just bought this on the Microsoft Store now....I share a few computers with my kids so they get locked out of launching games from my Steam account if I'm playing Flight Simulator 2020. Would have rather just bought the Windows Store/Xbox version so they can play it without locking out my Steam account. It's not like you're going to see any Christmas or Summer sale DLC's through Steam, all the add-on's are handled directly in the game. I wonder if I just buy the "base" version of the game on Xbox/MS Store and it will automatically be the "Premium Deluxe" version since you essentially sign into your Xbox account anyway and should theoretically sync all the DLC's.

do you actually need steam open to play?

I'm doing a test right now and downloading the game again (going slow, as expected)

I want to confirm that the "Premium Deluxe" version I bought on Steam carries over the additional planes/airports to the "Standard" (base) version of the game that I installed via the Microsoft Gamepass (PC only right now, since Xbox version isn't out yet) since you essentially log into the same Microsoft account regardless of Steam or Microsoft Store version.

This will be good news if I can confirm but I have a feeling the Game Pass version won't stick around forever so I know I at least only have to buy the "Standard" (base) version of the game if I also want to have my same account & DLC's on the Xbox version or launch it through Windows Store PC version instead.

Will keep you all posted.

Yes you do. Game is "Running" per Steam when launched through there. It's still technically a "Steam" game but you still have all the drawbacks of the Windows Stores version (actually more). I still wouldn't recommend buying the Steam version of this game unless you're one of those "Steam Only" type of people:

-Initial install/Updates/DLC's through the Windows servers, not Steam
-DLC time-limited sales through Microsoft only when they feel like it, Steam Summer/Winter sales won't apply since everything is handled directly in the FS2020 marketplace
-Lock out your Steam account to other family members if they share your login
-Microsoft Store version at least has the option to play on Xbox or try via Ultimate game pass. Steam you get neither option.
-Don't count of the Steam 2-hour refund policy since it can take more than 2 hours to download 93GB worth of data in-game even on a Gigabit/Fiber Optic connection.

Could be the 16 GB ram. It might help to cap the frame rate. Here is how 32 GB runs with a similar setup:

Am I doing something wrong? I thought you were supposed to be able to see real world planes. I have yet to see a single plane at all. Nothing moving at airports or in the sky.

As others have said, this an 8GB vram game for ultra and all the system memory in the world will not help that. Try a combo of med to high and you should be fine.
I am running high 1080p. VRAM usage at 97%. Oddly enough I can run on ultra with no more issues than high. Will try medium though to confirm it is a vram issue.

Even on a still ultra high res screenshot from guru3d, I couldn't tell the difference between high and ultra so it could be more physics based/draw distance than textures. You should definately be ok with medium though.
