Love your socket 754?

Yes i do love S754

With the help of CCUABIDExORxDIE my 3400+ Newcastle is prime stable for 8+ hrs on 10x260 FSB :) It did this with 1.65V ont he core but i didnt try to run with 1.6V but the temperatures never went over 50 so I wont worry about it. Not a big overclock to brag about but I am happy that i took advantage of my ram and that it prime stable

hell yeah a Soket 754 Venice

Does this have any improvments over my Newcastle Core performance wise

If nothing it will run cooler the my newcastle and hopefully clock the same if not more :)

I will get one of these since they are under 150$ :)

we'll probably just see lower temps, SSE3, better memory controller.. basically everything you see with newcastle -> venice for s939, just for s754... which means no, performance will be about the same, unless you use a lot of sse3 stuff

or wanna marry a pastrami sandwich....i mean overclock at. those chips seem to be doing 2.6-2.7ghz with good vcore. looks like a win for all you s754 boys.

Woah. I might trade my 3700+ for one of these. Would the mem controller be improved on these like the 939s? I'd really like to run 2gig of memory at 3200 speeds.

you could run 2gigs of mem with 1t or 2t timings depending on your choice of how to make 2gigs. if its 1gig + 512mb + 512mb, then 2t, if its 1gig + 1gig, then 1t. either way it will run pc3200 speeds. these new venices should prove to be new life for the s754 crowd and boy howdy they should clock nicely too.

Ooooh. So tempting. I could cover the cost of a good cooler and the proc if I sold my Clawhammer. Gonna wait until after Christmas. Combine this Venice with the DFI NF4 and I think I'd be set until M2.

agreed. and ill say it again BOY HOWDY! :D

but for serious, if you sell your 3700+ for like 170, you can get a 3000+ venice s754 and an xp90 and fan. and boom, your set like cheddar cheese in a pizza place, assuming thats people dont want cheddar cheese on a pizza.

Well, depending on how long it takes me to recieve reimbursement for my expenditures on my conference trip to D.C. last month, I might just keep the Claw and build another 754 system, albiet with this Venice.

This is excellent. Definitly gonna get one soon. Any other speeds on the horizon? It would be cool if the whole s754 a64's got a refresh. Also, I guess it makes the slower newarks not matter as much, if they ever show anyway.

Not to sound like an ass, but is the competition thing on the front page still updated? I posted this a couple days ago and nobody seemed to notice, I thought it was decent on air considering I didn't have to push it very hard.

On another note, I might have to pick up one of these new Venice chips for my new 754 PCI-E rig.

3000+ Venice
DFI Infinity NF4X
2x1GB G.Skill Value
Sapphire X800GTO2

Yes, I've been slacking. A spike in the AMD forums of "omg Opteron > all" has sort of pushed me away from the forums, as there's hardly anything worth reading. Although, I'm quite excited to see these Venice core 754s...I'm guessing this is due to the 939 cutting back on the 3000+/3200+? Not sure if that's fact, but if 754 is the value line, that move makes sense (and brings some life back into our loved platform).

I'd also like to add you're a dickhead for going 1MHz higher than me. ;)

Everything's updated, still looking for more scores and if you guys get an idea for a 2nd contest, feel free to post ideas. I'll update whatever you guys want me to do, whenever I find the free time to.

Full Folding Ahead!

and tsue is alive! i didnt even hafta bump him. in other news he will be busy soon, he needs to recieve and setup watercooling stuffs. this thread is HUGE we must be nearing 2k posts.

Oooooh. Looks like there are 3200+ and 3400+ s754 Venices out there too. Me want.

yeah.. i said the same thing a few days ago. this new s754 development is kinda cool, though perplexing :p

I could probably push it a couple more if you'd like. ;)

Edit: woot for quoting tsue at the same exact time. :p

Here's the 3000+ at the egg. Link

Processor specs can be found here...
3000+
3200+
3400+

It says the 3400+ is an E3 revision instead of E6 :(, but it also says the 3200 is the exact same as the 3000, cept with different wattage.

meh i got excited about the 3400+

What difference does the stepping make ? Is the 3000+ Venice the best buy since it has the e6 stepping?

amusingly, the E6 seems to be the worst.. we've yet to see lots of info on the E4's though

Gonna have to keep an eye on this and see how it develops. I also found it odd that the 3000+ and the 3200+ had the same specs except for voltage.

yup, look at baron's sempron that did 2.7ghz :D

speaking of which, i haven't seen that kid around for a while :(

i know! where has he been? maybe he works all the time. or just doesnt fancy overclocking anymore?

so yea, this just in BLONDE/ORANGE HAIR = HIGH OVERCLOCKING ABILITY!

and whose gonna buy one of these Venice s754's. i bet it will be baron!

My E6 sempron'll prime at 2.7 if I give it 1.7, and it'll run mighty cool while doing it. :D Just not comfortable doing it for extended periods of time with the stock HSF. Thinking about grabbing an XP-90C sometime soon to see if I can push it any farther. I was under the impression that E6 was good because they ran cooler.

well, e6 is good, it all depends on who you talk to.

ALSO! i bought 2gigs of Gskills LE for the price of 200 bucks. for both gigs! yea, im soo excited, i peed my pants a little bit! :D

then you don't get your money :p

though the title thingy.. is a good point. i need to do something about that

Baron told me to tell you (Ozzi) something about Cool 'N Quiet being controlled by a driver, and something else (forget the name) being controlled by a Windows process, since he never sees you online. He still shows up, just later at night. And, since you're both pussies, you obviously never see him online. :p

And yes, lets see some Venice ownage in this mix! If we find a cheapo that overclocks like nuts, I might be able to build a cheap folder. :) Speaking of which, someone fold for me, my active CPU count is slumping. :(

Full Folding Ahead!

Chaintech vnf3-250, MSI k8n neo platinum, DFI nf3 250UT. those are the top 3 boards in my book for s754. but best of the best is NF3 250UT by miles
