Where is a good place to get a DFI lanparty nf3 250? Newegg and zipzoom are both $90+. You'd think this board would come down in price. Im thinking about the chaintech but I read (I think in this thread) that the bios has crappy options. Any other board with a oc friendly bios?

the chaintech is an alright board. i could hit htt330 with the chipset being passively cooled, and a lowered multi. the ram section sucks though. if you want a cheap DFI, get a refurb from newegg. they are like 60 bucks.

I'm suicide running my Sempron 3100+, it's priming at 295x9 right now. Stock HSF and it isn't breaking 36C. Let's see a 939 do that! :p

This whole no agp on high end cards thing annoys me.

My A64 2.2 @ 2.65 is still a smoking processor. In benchmarks with everything up to a stock FX-57 with the same videocard I am within a couple of FPS.

However I am on a 754 board with no PCI-E. If they offered a X1800/7800 I would upgrade to one when this 6800 GT starts to get too slow for me. I don't have that option now though.
 
Ill be trying out my 3000+ semp for this run,yes ill be on LN2 and yes ill take down the record... ;) got a new mobo on order from newegg so ill be ready to toast it maby mid next week or this comming weekend.

Yeah, I'm gonna be upgrading my graphics soon and was looking into a 6800GS. Luckily there are some good 754 boards that've got PCI-E, it'd be such a waste to have to go 939.

BitchBreaker, that sounds awesome, will look forward to seeing how far that thing will go. How much voltage you think you'll end up pumping it with?

PS ~ Anybody have any experience with the EPoX 8NPA?
 
So whats a good chip to put in a dfi nf3 with w/c? Does 1mb l2 on the claw make a diff vs semprons?

The 3700+ Claw looks nice, comes with a free HD, mobo, or flash drive as well. Also, you might look into the mobile chips, I think some of the Turions are supposed to do pretty well for OCing.

i think i smell a challenge. the record was more of a mobo limit then anything, its very VERY tempermental with anything under the 2.5x multi. and if you take it down, i gotta go out and buy a DFI NF3 250gb, pci graphics card and 3100 sempron+ so i can regain it for the s754 leaders, or maybe baron can come back from the s939 paradise hes been in. ozzis newark died, so he cant play anymore. good luck taking it down, progress is progress, despite who makes it. :)

The turions dont overclock well at all. the Newarks do, and the old 130nm claws do. now for my reccomendation for the chip...get a DTR 3000+ claw or the 3700+ claw or a 3700+ newark if you got the bills. most newcastles will do around 2.6ghz, good cooling provided and most CO claws, the old desktop claws, would only do 2.4ghz, so stay away from them. and i hate making two posts in a row, but i REFUSE TO EDIT! :p

When are cheaper newarks going to show up? It's a great core, but the 3700+ is above my price tolerance.

My board will only give 1.7V unfortunately, but I got it to prime at 300x9 for about two hours before it errored. Funny thing is, the first time I gave it this much it would only pass for about five minutes, so I'm thinking it might just need a good burn-in. About the temps, at night it's like 3C outside so I just bundle up and open my window, 8C ambient seems to keep everything running pretty cool. :p
 
I have a sweet Lancaster MT40 that ill try also i have a few mobo's (12 or so) from nf3 to via's (suck!) the best mobo for this is the dfi nf3-250gb,I think i can hit some good htt with my rig's but we shall see.Ill go to newegg today and order 3 or 4 chip's and see what i can do,not sure at this point still trying to get main rig back up...raid 5 is a bitch on this p5wd2...anything over 290fsb and it try's to rotate my paroty every reboot...

3 or 4 chips! gosh! go to www.shentech.com and buy some newarks. lets see how you do with those. :D and eww! via! i had the kv8-pro, which im pretty sure you have, that mobo is just a bitch.
 
yea the kv8 sucked big time,i did have a kv8 of some form that oc'd quite well to be honest but the bandwidth was still way behind....

Actually I would need a CPU and Motherboard to go with it ;)

I wasn't really serious about getting fast memory, just bored.

I've been using a K6-2/500mhz for the past week and a half, I sold my Sempron and DFI board, also my 6600GT (Which I hated)

I would love to play with a Sempron 3400+ and the old DFI NF3 250gb

But when (hopefully tomorrow) NCIX gets the Opteron 146's in, I'll be happy!

Basically I wanted to make my computer more future proof (PCI-E, Dual Core) so I sold my current stuff, and Santa brought me an x800GTO^2 early, and I bought a new Motherboard (DFI LanParty Ultra-D) and CPU (Opteron 146)

I'm so excited to actually have a really nice computer for once.
 
BTW, the Chaintech VNF3-250 has a newer bios out that I missed the first time around. It has a LOT more memory adjustments than the previous BIOS. Much better. I'm running 2 sticks of generic PQI at 436 Mhz, and it's not done yet.
 
my chaintech suck's i cant change the multy on the cpu or anything..the HTT devider has to be set to 4x or it wont boot..not even 3x work's i have yet to break 240HTT on it....maby i got a bumm mobo?

1. CPU multy is hardware locked on almost ALL CPU's, its not the motherboard.
2. 3X multi on HTT is broken on a lot of motherboards for some reson.
3. 240x4 = 960, thats still in the green, but its close enough to 1000 that you could be suffering from it. Set your HTT multi down to 2X and keep on clocking!
 
1. a64's are unlocked down, you get 4x to stock
3. he can't use anything but 4?

Well, HTT benchmarking can be both the CPU + the mobo. Look at that crappy 3400+ Claw I had. The limit on post #1 is the highest she went, and I'm sure if I tossed a 3100+ sempy in there it woulda went way higher. Either way, I still think I hold the EoC record @ 496MHz HTT. :cool:

Now c'mon, let's get that top10 HTT filled. At the very least get all slots filled....then maybe it'll get more competitive.

And yes, CCU folds for me on 2 machines (well, 1 all the time....the other one he's always messing with so I gets no WU's :( ). Don't you all wanna be as cool as the Donkatron CCU? Well get to foldin'! tsuehpsyde team 33 go! :D

I think folding on a k6-2/500mhz would be pointless?
I used to fold for TweakTown, on my Athlon XP 1800+ (1.91ghz) and that took ages to complete a WU...
 
my Dual G5 does very well at folding. I havent done it for a year or so but it kicks pretty good.

I should start up again. :eek:

What Chaintech board is that? I have gone up to 322 HTT with mine.
 
I have a question for all yous using a naked chip.....so as to avoid what happened to Eclipse, whats the proper way to mount a Thermalright HS....will the chip pads be enough to support well on top of the core?
 
mine is the VNF-250,i flashed to latest bios but anything over 250 no matter what HTT ratio i use (1x even) i cant get to boot past 250..something is borked and i finaly got the cpu multy's to work.

I just hold the heatsink on straight, and screw it down...

Yeah, I have no clue how Mark managed to mess up his Newark.

My Sempron had a WAY smaller die and I was almost scared to tighten the Zalman down all the way for fear of crushing the core because I hear they are more fragile than K7 architecture.

I am pretty sure the die on the Sempron was the same size as my Athlon XP 1800+, just to give you an idea of how tiny it really is.
