Love your socket 754?

It's asymptotically approaching completion in relation to the proximity of the End of Universe?

while ( x != Completed){
x = x/2;

gotta love them infinte loops that end due to rounding errors ;)

and guys who are 'joining', just put that you're a member in your sig, and you're good to go :p

OK guys, update on my bizarre 3DMark 05 mark scores...
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ s754 (Stock speed 2.0GHz)

2.0GHz - 3547 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 166
2.2GHz - 3568 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 166
2.3GHz - 3598 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 166
2.4GHz - 3515 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 133
2.5GHz - 3551 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 133

See a pattern? The second I lower my memory divider, my score plummets BELOW what it was when my processor was at stock speed, the divider change isn’t made up for until the processor hits about 2.5GHz
Even at 2.5GHz with the 133 divider, my 3DMark 05 score is still lower than at 2.3GHz with the 166 Divider.

Any ideas WHY this is happening?

My first thought is, because you're using 3DMark.

And that's your memory ratio, your memory divider is CPU multiplier / memory ratio, rounded up. Divide the CPU speed by that and add the memory speeds to the list, you might get more of a pattern. Also might not, but it's relevant data that's missing.

My CPU multiplier is x10. I'm not quite understanding what you want me to do with the #'s, when I do what you said I get:
10 / 166 = 16.6 / 2300 = ~138.5

But that cant be right, according to CPU-Z my memory is running at 191.7 (x2 = 383.4 DDR)

Depends on the 3000+, since it's a 2GHz part the default would be 10.

You have to take the actual ratio, if it says 166 it's really 166/200.

2.3GHz - 3598 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 166
2.4GHz - 3515 3D Marks - Memory Divider: 133

Between these two you're going from 177MHz to 150MHz? Maybe I'm not calculating it correctly but it looks like you're significantly underclocking it...anyway that's why you're seeing a difference.

BTW CPU-Z isn't terribly accurate about the clocks on A64.

I've seen what your saying about CPU-Z, it likes to switch its reading between 2.3GHz and 2.299.99GHz :p Not to menton how it reads voltage

BTW The RAM is DDR 333, allthough it makes it to about DDR 390 befor it starts giveing memtest errors; that and the fact that I can crank up the timings pretty far (untill it hits about DDR 380) makes me think its a failed DDR 400 stick

I also went over the #'s, and they dont look good. Turns out I'll need to get my processor up to 2.8GHz befor the RAM comes back up to speed (And that aint happening on stock cooling, or this boards voltage limit  )

No choices between those two eh? Might want to save up for some new memory.

I could trry dropping the multi donwn on the processor, that would give me a chance to ramp the RAM back up without overdooing it on the processor...hmm, what do you guys think?

Oh, and I also discovered that my hard disk craps out when I hit 260FSB  er...WTF?

Sounds like your mobo might have a crappy lock.

Remember the formula...CPU Speed / (round up: CPU multi / memory ratio)

Code:
2.5GHz with 166/200 memory ratio

Multi	Memory speed
10	192MHz
9	227MHz
8	250MHz

K, I'll give that a try.

Erm...hehe, the funny thing about that is...uh, my motherboard has no PCI/AGP Lock (or vRAM or vAGP for that matter  )

Anybody got a pre-hacked BIOS for an ASRock K8Upgrade - 1689 motherboard? :D
I could probobly edit the bios with a hex editor to change teh settings, but I really dont trust myself enough to do that without instructions (Allthough I did manage hacking/reflashing my video card drivvers to make teh temp sensor work :p )

you can punch me later, but is the memory divider set by changing it to 133 or 166 not like nforce2 boards where you can actually set 2:3 or whatever?

can i join the club? getting a clawhammer 3400+ soon....so untill i get it im in the "AMD k6 333mhz loser" club =(

Yep, just put your recognition in your sig once you get the parts. ;)

ARG! im back from the posting grave! i have been gone for a week, and im baffled! NH was alright, but back on topic.

Blue antifreeze should be arriving soon, so my watercooling loop will be done rather soon. Now back to s754 lovin!

depends on the bios, i've seen both, and even a third where both are listed (which i think is actually most common)

I'm getting a Clawhammer 3400+, what would be a good cooling system...? Like what would be some low and mid range setups i could do?

xp-90 (not C)
zalman cnps-7000
arctic freezer 64

im using a tt silent tower on my 3000 and it is doing a damn good job. I load at 43c 1.72v at 2430MHz. Also, it is summer, and I have no ac :p

I think I've found my sweet spot at 2.32GHz / 10xMulti / 232FSB / 5:6Divider / Ram is @ DDR 386.6
My RAM is the current limiting factor, once my stick of DDR400 gets here I should be able to push past this without severly underclocking my RAM :p :D

very nice, finding a sweetspot is super fun/time consuming. i mgonna be going through that myself when i get that stupid blue antifreeze i need.

Are you waiting for it to be shiped, or is it just hard to find in the first place?

waiting for it to be shipped, it was snt out from florida on thursday, so im guessing tommarow or monday it will show up at my house, then i need to dremmel my case. i got a long line of things to do.

and it is way hard to find in the first place, only pentosin makes it, and Audi and VW dealers have it.

I believe you're not supposed to add alot of Anti-Freeze to certain types of tubing because it eats it...
Because Anti-Freeze last time I checked wasn't very viscous at all...

about there. i'm gonna have fun bringing it sub-zero when i get the chance though :p :D
Yesterday...
42c CPU idle, 63c GPU...
Today...
35c CPU idle, 52c GPU...

Today rules :D

And no, I don't feel sorry for my video card being so hot :)

(cf)Eclipse: Shush. I'm using a Zalman Cooler... not Aqua leetness...

But this CPU can't handle the high HTT very well.. I think I got a dud... although 275 is considered high isn't it?
