Love your socket 754?

well i have spent the day researching overclocking my rig and i have come to the conclusion use it as my server rig and go back to overclocking intel much easier and only 3 or 4 settings to play with

the damn memory settings have really got me flummoxed

how about an OC vs. Voltage contest?
Who can get the highest OC at the lowest voltage, and who can run stock at the lowest voltage :D

The BIOS update for my motherboard tweeked my voltages a little, and added some more options, so the list I made is now invalid :( Oh well, guess I'll have to do it again :p

BTW, the BIOS update also added LOWER voltages, I've managed to get my processor to run stable at stock speed (2.0GHz) at only 1.15 vCore
At that voltage, the stock cooler can pull off some pretty impresive temps!

no, cause (cf) eclipse will win. I think he got like 2.4ghz with only 1.2vcore, he can run 2.0ghz with 1.0v. he is a madman with that chip.

yarg! beaten to the post by the man himself.

uh... Damn, that pwns me

The next bump down from 1.15 vCore and the system wont boot, and I need at least 1.375 vCore to get 2.4GHz stable

Unknown-One = Mega pwned by cf's awsome chip

Edit:
Wait...what if (to be fair) we sorted it into different core catigory's? All the Newcastles would go up against eachother, and all the Winchesters, and so on

That could work (and CF would be able to up against other chips on the same level :p )

hehehe, newark is good for something :p

it stops scaling really well around 1.5v, >2.8ghz

for 2.4ghz for me, i need stupid 1.6vcore or 1.55vcore. i dont even remember. im mega owned by him for sure.

Yea, whats with some of these chips? Sometimes they overclock better with LESS voltage

2.8GHz at 1.5v???
I can just bearly break 2.6GHz at 1.5v!

they are weird chips, mine seems to like high vcore, ive never tested with lower vcore though. once water is in place, im shooting for 2.6ghz with 1.7vcore.

and catarogy style lowest vcore contests seems like fun.

I have 2.2ghz from 1.6ghz on stock voltage, I think I would win lowest stock speed voltage :)

Right now I have two cores running at 2.16 GHz on 1.184v.

thats not s754! boo! dual core cant touch newarks 1337ness! jk baron, hows that manchester doing?

So-so. I like the chip a lot, but its not hitting the speeds I want at the voltage I want. Core 0 is weaker than Core 1 I'm finding. It will fail prime when Core 1 just keeps on trucking.

thats really weird, i never thought about that, one core being weaker then the other. well, your one of the first to play with these 4200+ manchesters. 2.43ghz is pretty damn good with 1.4v

Yeah, and the temps are great on this thing. Waaay better than you'd think. It idles at about 32c and loads at about 38c.

it makes no sense, they have 90nm chips, that use 1.4v stock, and add two of them together, lower the vcore, and make em run soo cool, that its insane. i freakin hate you amd!

but back to s754, baron, when you gonna make a sempy s754 rig? weve, meaning ive, been awaiting the results you get from a 2600+ and vnf3-250.

Did any1 catch the s754 deals at compusa on friday. I picked up a 3000+ sempron HP system for $60 + $30 tax, and couldve got a 3400+ athlon64 for $50 more :)

I don't currently have plans to do so but, meh, who knows. It would cost me about $120 to get that together and would make for a great box to finally put my dell out of commission.

then join the s754 club! a 3000+ sempron huh? i havent heard of those, is it like the 1.8ghz only 128k cache? and damn 90 bucks for a complete rig? thats damn good for a folding machne.

edit : w00t, 900th post!

You have an X2, and that Dell box is still kicking....huh? What is it doing exactly?

Its my girlfriend's computer. It needs to be put out of its misery.

i'm so confused, I have my 700 bucks for my new rig, and I can't make up my mind on what to put together, I only know 100% that i'm getting a DFI Lanparty NF3 250gb and a 6800NU. What else would you suggest that I get to put together a badass system for 700?

Those together are what, $300? So 400... hmmm.

How about a Mobile (true 1.4v mobile, not DTR) 3400+ ($245) XP90 ($30) and 2x512mb TwinMOS SP400 ($120)?

Hahaha, that comes out to be about $700 even.

105 for dfi
200 for vga
245 for cpu
30 for heatsink
120 for ram

Yeah, but I need a Hard Drive, CD-RW, case and PSU. I was also considering keeping my 9700PRO and waiting untill the next generation comes out or something. I also have a Zalman 7000ALCU I could use too. If I really wanted to save money I could deal with using a CD-ROM for a couple of weeks or something, because I have 2 of them around somewhere.

A64 2800+ (120)
1gig twinmos SP (120)
DFI (100)
6800 (200)
DVD-RW (50)
200gig HDD (100)

$690

CPU : 3000+ DTR, the eggs got em back i think 140
Ram : Twinmos SP, or Crucial Value 100-120
HDD : 200 gig for 100
DVD drive : 20 bucks
mobo : dfi for 110
GPU : 6800 nu for like 180
Cooler : Swiftech MVC6400-X or whatever it is, the swiftech a64 cooler, 50 bucks

total : 700-720, im sure you you can cut some corners, just look around for some deals.

antec slk 2650 BQE-$60
dfi ut250- $100
dtr- $135
xp90/fan- $30
gskill pc3200 2-3-3 ram-$100
6800 $180
80gig sata drive-$60
combo drive-$30

$695.

^I'm in. damn i need to get those shirts going :p

So far my my s754 is looking like a fx-53, i can do better though. :)

Yeah get those shirts, I want one before those new whipper snappers trying to build a S939 club make shirts.

If they're going to make a club for 939, they might as well make one for DDR memory too, as everyone has that too. :p Me and CCU are the President and Vice-President of that club, we call dibs. Who wants AGP club and PCI-E club? Better stock auctioning off all the sockets. :D And My "Love your xxxxxx?" thread starting syntax better shart shelling out royalties.

CCUABIDExORxDIE said:
lets start a love your RDRAM club? i cant even be in on that one.

It's okay, baron's still our Vice President and he's barely even legitamately in the 754 club anymore. ;)
