Love your socket 754?

Ok, dont screw with me you two... :p

I know my CPU is a newcastle (CPU-Z tells me so, my receipt from 11/04 confirms it ;) ), but there are apparently 2 revisions. Asisde from physically _reading_ the lid on the IHS, is there a software application that will identify which revision I own so I can get another one similar to it?

Edit: to Avoid any possible confusion I present the following links to products:
NC AR revision
NC AX revision
the AR is a 1/2 cache clawhammer, but is still called newcastle by some people.

cpu-z should tell you, but if you doubt, you can use CBID:

Hey can I join! Wile my main rig is s939, I luvin my secoundary rig that I just finished building for fun. Not really sure what im going to do with it, but defently aint selling it as I liek it too much.

1st retail release 3200+ Clawhammer@ 2.5Ghz, DFI NF3 250 mobo, Antec 550watt PSU, 6800GT AGP, 1.5GB o ram (1x1gb 1x512mb for bf2) 15k SCSI HDD on cheapo u160 controller :(

Holy Kajoles! You must be lucky that that 15K HDD dosnt lift-off inside your case!

but it puts your ram on a weird divider usually.

CPU/13 was critical for my setup in order to max out my CPU and 2 gigs of RAM. I run 262 * 10.5 with a CPU/13 divider because my RAM craps out over 212-213.

as ozzi said, they can be good sometimes, but as a rule of thumb, they can be bad.

CPU-Z indicates its a NC core but the only thing I recognized was the DH7-CG stepping.
CBI gave me the plain-english OPN number. Indeed, an AX. Thanks Eclipse for the answer, yet again. ;)

Edit: that central brain identifier is a neat little tool. Ok, someone kick me in the nads for dropping voltage on my proccie while in remote desktop.... Locked up the beast from 20 miles away... I swear, everytime I get a new toy, I just cant wait to see what it can do....

consider your nads...KICKED!

i think i win for the dumbest award ever though. i tried going from 204htt to 290htt in windows. boy did that mess up my rig.

Fold with it, preferrably under my username. And I'll add you into the list. :)

That shouldn't be a problem if your BIOS is preconfigured to do it (lowered HTT, raised voltage, etc.). I went from 200 to 330 in just Windows because I had set the other options ahead of time. I hate rebooting and rebooting so I just set it up before hand, then stress test in windows. I slowly bump it till Prime95 fails. If you go slow enough and have your RAM dividers safe, windows won't lock up on you generally while you do this investigating.

with Abit, it changes EVERYTHING. like vdimm, vcore, htt link, all sorts of stuff. dividers and all sorts of crap.

Yeah, it causes "a bit" of confusion :D

you could run 306x9 for 2.75ghz with ram speed of 212mhz due to the DFI divider of 143mhz in the Dram Settings area. which is perfectly within your range without using a half multi. and infact 309x9 gives you more ramspeed and thus more bandwidth then 262x10.5.

Glad to see every 1 all happy again :)

however, i am sad to see that your selling your s754 stuff. unless you have something else up your sleeve, like the pci-e DFI board and a new chip?

There's no 143 option on the NF4X Infinity :) It's not quite as tweakable as DFI's other boards. That's why I'm using the 166 divider with the 10.5 multi for CPU/13. Oddly enough, it aligns perfectly with the limitations of my components.

ahh. well then i guess the 1/2 multi works perfect for you. :) sorry for any hard feelings.

Okay, I've been having more problems. I set up sata raid on my board, and went to install windows. When it rebooted, it hung for a minute with the winxp splash screen just frozen, then booted. When I went to install drivers, it got bsod halfway through, during heavy disk access. I rebooted, and then it hung for a minute at xp splash, then got bsod right before windows loaded. So should I rma? And rma to newegg or dfi? I installed the beta 6/23 bios, and it said my warranty is voided...but if I flash back will anyone tell?

Yes, and I hit f6 during windows install to add the raid drivers. As far as I can tell I've done everything right, and its just craping out. Its 30 days to rma to newegg right?

Yeah, sounds about right. I'd try installing windows on each seperate drive first to figure out which drive is bad. No point in sending both back, unless both are bad somehow.

Full Folding Ahead!

I think he's talking about RMAing the DFI. :p

Ahhh, well, in that case, go for it. I know mine worked flawlessly in SATA #3 and #4 when I had my board, even with high HTT raping.

Full Folding Ahead!

Time for new goodies

I have been saving for a while, and finally got my trip reimbursement, so I've decided to get some new toys:

XClio 450 watt PSU
Antec SLK3000
Biostar TForce 6100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813138268
eVGA 7800gt
2 * 1gb G.Skill Value Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820231036

What do you guys think of the TForce board and the G.Skill value memory? I'm going to have to wait a couple of days to order, because I am out of town right now and won't be back home until next week.

BTW, has anybody here got results from those S754 Venice...

I'd like to trade my 2800 for one and wonder what they are getting on air with a normal voltage.

Yeah, I got like 2.4 and I think another guy in this thread got 2.5. He may have gotten higher, but I'm kinda disappointed with mine. It runs really cool though, never broke 38 on stock heatsink. Oh, I did set the s754 htt record with it though. :D
