Love your socket 754?

Hey fellas my DFI board just bit the dust and now I need something new. I was thinking of trying something different. Any suggestions. I thought this Epox board looks interesting what do you think?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123242

It has nForce4 and a PCI-E slot. I can't recommend buying another nForce3/AGP mobo at this time. Unless you're looking to use your old video card, you should really look at the DFI NF4X Infinity or something comparable.

So how do I join this thing? Just got a new DFI LanParty and an S754 Venice. The 3200+ looks as if it should run stable at 2.5, at the very least, so I'm hoping this'll make a nice little file server for the home LAN.

BTW - I'd avoid refurbed DFI - the bootup issue is looming and NewEgg hasn't caught it. I have some personal experience on that account, I'm afraid. :(

Never thought of it like that. Truth is I've never had to RMA anything before. My hardware has always worked for me. I guess I have just been lucky the past few years! I am tempted to sell my graphics card and cpu and go 939/pcie.... I'm kidding, I'm kidding. :)

939 for the win :D

after getting my rig up and running, which it now is, and i love it, im happy with s939. but my heart still lies with s754. it always will.

also, Kolya the only reason an RMA would be illegitmate would be if you use the 4.0v dfi bios, with the pot adjusting on your psu and so forth, glavin. (frink'd!)

That's understandable, however I don't think motherboards apply to that rule. Video card's and cpu's yes, however motherboards no. The options are in the bios, that is put on by the manufacturer, overclocking does not void your warranty. Hence, you can rma it with no guilty conscience.

Hrm, normally with vid-cards, ram, and proccies, OC'ing and RMA's don't mix in my ethical book, but sabrewolf presents a compelling argument.

Ok, to keep a clear conscience, why not call DFI up and admit that you overclocked your components via the bios and see how they will handle it?

Worst case scenario, they say no and you still have to replace the board. Best case scenario is they take it back and fix it.

Either way you have a clear conscience and keep yourself in good standing with the rest of the "Pay to Play" crowd.

abeh? Yeah I miss my 754 :( but time to move on! :D M2's coming out soon, wtf to that.

My exact feelings Sabrewolf.

I went with s754 because 1 year ago, the 939's were $50-$100 more for slower proccies. AGP/PCIe wasnt a concern because the jump from nvidia 5xxx -> 6xxx series was big, the jump from 6xxx-7xxx wasnt as big.

s754/AGP was the best (and I contend still is) the best Bang for the Buck out there. Alas, I will be going M2 later this year (late this year) but s754 has been a good one to me.

I have a feeling when I move to m2, amd will have a m3 :p

I was 5 years between upgrades when I got my s754 system. 2 years is good enough now, or whatever yields the best bang-for-the-buck.

Dual core was tempting, ooohhh so tempting, but with m2 around the bend, not worth it for my bank account to do 2 upgrades within 6 months.

What is this bootup issue of which you speak? I think that might have been what I was having.

I've got money burning a hole in my pocket, but I can't decide if I should sell my stubborn, un-overclockable 3400+ and buy a 4000+ Newark or just sit on the cash and wait for M2. What do you fellow 754'ers suggest?

Not the best gaming rig...but with a little overclocking of the Sempron I should be happy!!
Hopefully I'll see a big jump in performance from my current 2.53 P4 system. That baby is really struggling with current games. :(

any thoughts??
thanks,

Chappie

somethin tells me that sempron 2800+ isnt going to be any faster than you 2.53ghz p4..

Sure about that?

Those things overclock verywell

Hey guys,

That's what I'm hoping for...a nice overclock on the Sempron!!!
Once I decide to buy I'm sure I'll come looking for some help on getting a nice overclock with it!
Treyshadow, what mb are you running that in?? Just curious.

thanks,

Chappie

you're very off. At 1.8GHz my semp 3100+ was as fast if not faster than a 2.2GHz barton. 2.53GHz p4's are slow. And overclocked to 2.5GHz the p4 has no chance Even if he only hits 2GHz he should thoroughly outperform his 2.5 p4

This is probably a loaded question..but...which motherboard is better??? The one you guys have or the one that is about $10 more...the Tforce???

Man..I keep going back in force between sockets...939...754..939...754..I like the idea of having that 7800gt...but I can't afford it if I go 939...but I want an opteron badly as well!! LOL..If I go with the opty then I'm not sure If I can swing a 6800gs..might have to go with one of those Powercolor or Xconnect Radeon Gto's...

ahh..decisions..decisions.. ;)

Ehh, bad news for the club. I dont quite Love my AMD anymore :( . Dosnt give me good results so im eh...selling it and moving back to intel. Sorry guys, it was fun while it lasted :)

Comparing s754 AMD to LGA775 Intel is like comparing apples to oranges, good luck with your build

Hey 754ers. Need a little advice for my new build coming up.
This is what I have now.
3700+ Clawhammer
Nforce 3
1 Gig ram.
X800XT

Why am I building a new comp? Well the current one is not mine, my dad paid for most of it. Which Is why I am building a whole new rig with my own money. And this is what I was thinkin

Keep the 3700+, and get a 2800+ sempron for my dads comp. Give it 1.8 Volts and try to hit 3Ghz(On water of course).
DFI Nforce 4 754
1 gig stick of DDR500, will add a second later.
X1900XTX or G71
Already got a 600Watt PSU, and a Lian Li case.

Do you guys think I can hit 3Ghz on water??? Water bock is coming at the end of the week, so I can try then.

I highly doubt you'll hit 3ghz on water with that cpu

Quite sad really. Even stock the P4 beats it in benching.

that's really weird, my neighbors 478 p4 setup couldn't hold a candle compared to my old claw. (unreal tourn, jedi knight II , 3dmarks, aquamarks etc)

and every gaming review you look at has the a64's pwning the p4's in the face. something else is up

Well, not anymore lol. This Presler is gonna be creaming the FX-60 in TDP and capability! , soon as I get it of course :D
