Love your socket 754?

i got my xp-90 and 92mm sunon medium flow fan in today, and installed it with some fresh as5 (per the instructions on their site). my idle tems are still reading between 48-49 degrees celcius which is only like 2 degrees cooler than it was before. is this normal for a 3400+ newcastle at stock speeds? it seems a little high to me

WOW....a "s754" club....kule! Guess you can count me in! w00t !

How is the airflow in that case? It looks like a ridiculous case but I bet that front intake has a lot of utility.

i did a little wire managment, and cleaned out all my fans and re-applied the as5 and now its idle temp is around 41-44 celcius which seems good to me

Good work.
Wire Management is always nice.

^^Ghetto Picture^^

looks like intake, which is what i would do.. blow cold air over the intake of the video card :p

xp90hsfwires.JPG

there is how mine is looking now. there is plenty of room around the cpu for cool air, there is also one intake in the front of the case, the 2 in the rear, and the one that sucks hot air from above the cpu that is built into the powersupply.

before I did any wire managment there were wires all over the case and a rat-nest right above the cpu. i will see if i have any pics of it before for comparison.

My computers are in a mess right now, I really need to get down and rewire everything. But I wont have much time, I'm recovering from a wisdom teeth removel (all 4!) and then in July I'm taking my girlfriend to Iceland for most of the month.

What I was hoping to do is buy two of these: http://xoxide.com/3dedge.html

And basically build a cage around my X800XL in my main comp and my 6800nu in my LAN. Anyone have any experience with those?

If I'm gonna do that I think I might cut out of the slot openings in the back of my case and have it as an intake to bring cool air up to those. If I do all of that I'm gonna volt mod the fans or buy a fan bus controller so I can keep it quiet still.

Sound a little extreme to anyone?

Yes, that is an intake fan, keeps the video card a few degrees cooler.
I don't ever have my side panel on so I don't have exhaust fans.

No way in hell is this case familiar, it's a $40 corner store computer case ;)

aw, come on guys.. these pictures are lame, typical "ooh, look at my case too!" :p

think harder, do something creative ;)

WARNIG! TOTALY CRAZY IDEA!

You could mount your motherboard outside of your case for some better airflow :p

Bah, fine...

Artistic enough?
Note the greasy finger print on the corner of the Zalman sticker.

I believe that we went over this.
S754 is "dead" and we are proving that it is NOT dead.
Infact it still has just as much life ahead of it as S939.

Being relegated to slower chips, never seeing a dual-core processor and probably never having a chip clocked higher than 2.4 GHz from the factory, all things 939 currently supports, are "as much life" to you, then go ahead and keep kidding yourself. It's a budget platform, simple as that. It doesn't support as much, period. I never said it was dead and this is the second time you've put that word in my mouth. I said it was obsolete in that other platforms are rapidly replacing it or poised to replace it.

Do keep hanging on out of spite, though, and don't make rational argument or conversation. That's always fun.

As for you guys "proving it's not dead" ... the NES was produced in 1983-1985 if you count the Famicom. It has a fan following much larger than that for Socket 754 processors. What's that tell you?

just stay away from this guy, he has a grudge against everything that isnt the way he likes it, like low temps, and cheap pc's that run really nicely.

It really seems that way. I guess he's just jealous that we enjoy our computers more than he can? Who knows/cares. He's just a troll in this thread.

That it's a great platform not only for it's time but even now? I'd play an NES game before any of the modern remakes of NES games and the lame graphics-driven games of today.

Love you too, wanna let our computers hang out next weekend?
They can play games just as good as Epicenters :)

I'll agree with this, at least.

I know, I'm being a troll. But I'm a troll with a good point. So, go ahead and say it.

Again with the blah, blah, blah...

So it's obsolete? So all these games I'm playing and work I'm doing isn't really happening? OMG, it's like you are the guy from the Twilight Zone who just told me I was in the Twilight Zone, and I'm like "OMG, pwned in the TwiL33T Zownzer" and you are like, "Ow, I have sand in my vag"... :D

Epicenter is twice the man any of us will ever be. I wish I was as badass and cool as Epicenter.

I'm still waiting to see why I should drop around $450 for a 939 system that will perform the same as my 754 system just so I can have an "upgrade path" that will be dead before I even consider needing more CPU power.

Eh, this forum just pisses me off altogether. People post inaccurate crap all the time with no justification, having no idea how the technology works and just being taught higher numbers are better without even knowing what's going on with your hardware makes you more "[H]ard!!!" when a lot of the times, the ringleader (Kyle) can't even bang out a solid testing methodology for the reviews this forum is an offshoot of. People don't even make an attempt to use proper grammar, spelling or even punctuate or separate their sentences. Moronic purchases that waste money and get people spending $2,000 on a system to do word processing are encouraged, and complete lies are spread as gospel, like that a 550W OCZ Power supply that costs more than superior competing supplies is the best to use for OVERCLOCKING because some overclocker had one in his system when he achieved some magic high clockrate, when in actuality, the PSU he used meant about as much for stability as the color of IDE cable he used did, as long as everything was in spec.

Actually, I remember why I keep coming here.. laughs..
WoW that was the worst rant i've ever heard. If your inaccurate comments lock this thread i will be mad.

P.S.: Borg that is a very good idea...and it will be done.

Oh my god. Enough with the fucking "l33t sp34k", I'm going to vomit. It's like discussing computer hardware with someone in a Counterstrike server. I never said your hardware didn't work, I said, it's just like an NES. You can still play games on it all you like, and have a jolly old time (I know I do.) But fan following or not, that doesn't mean it's a logically expandable choice.

Example. Suppose I bought an NES in 1984 and I loved it. Then an NES came out that ran NES and SNES and Genesis and SMS and 32x games in 1994. If everything from the NES worked great on it too, would it make much sense for me to rave about how much better the first one was just to be idealistic? That's the way I look at the 754 / 939 debates now. Socket 939 systems do all the same things just as well as the 754s for not much more money, with added perks like dual-core expandability, lower-heat and lower-power operation and a wider selection of high end processors available for them with no real detracting factors.

We need "members only" in the title now

Epicenter: You still havent made a convincing argument that its worth the money to get a 939 system over a current 754 one.

$450? When was the last time you took a look at the prices on this stuff? You can get a Venice 3000+ and a decent NF4 board like the DFI NF4 Ultra-D for a grand total of about $275, and you're almost guaranteed a 4-500 MHz or much higher overclock right out of the box on stock cooling and voltage, pushing into high-end FX territory. I fail to see how the 754 adopter gets the better deal here.

Because a S939 3700+ and a DFI board will cost $450 and there's no such thing as a guaranteed overclock. Thanks for playing though

don't like it, don't post.

as the "President" of this club, i will not accept these kinds of posts. this thread is geared for general s754 help among fellow s754 users, and some fun stuff for when we're bored. take your comments elsewhere

Actually, I've made at least 4 good arguments. You just didn't approve of any.

Oh god, the president. Quick, rename the club "NO EPICENTERS" and move to the thread across the street.
