31k sounds good. My two gtx460s must take about 8k ppd away.

What is your memory speed? I guess you tried to OC?

Xeon E3-1230 has been putting out just under 29K ppd with no overclock so I'd guess that that is a non o/c i7-2600K

Patriot and I both have the ES E3 1220 with ht. So you're basically right.

have not bothered trying "fsb" but yeah multi is locked...
unless someone knows how to use those programming contacts on top...

ddr3 1600 cas 6 ripjaws x

its on a slower unit right now also... not quite as bad as the 2684 if I recall

Increasing the bus clock limits multiplier overclock on unlocked processors but there probably isn't much to lose in your case. If you can get 106 bus you will be at 3.4ghz...

well yawn... its a good board...I will give it a try...

Nice, are you remote administering that system? Are those fans Gelid or Arctic Cooling?

No its plugged into my far right monitors vga... no sense in giving a dedicated folder a dedicated monitor... My desk is at a 90 at the left end of the test bench...

one fan is the xiggy that came with it... pwm...it can push 55cfm but I have it tuned down...

the second that faces me is Gelid... both are quiet fans but push a good amoutnt of air...though I think I might rotate the cooler so its not facing me... Originally I was gonna put it in a case... Its nearly silent with the fan at ear level 3' away... pretty setup... gained a few watts folding after the bump... curious if its stable shall see....

danka... 34.7k ppd nice boost... now meter is hopping between 116 and 117 watts :)

106 is pretty hardcore IMO. I have an ASUS P8H67-M Evo, P8P67 Pro, P8P67 WS Revolution, Sabertooth P67 and a Supermicro C7P67 at home at the moment and nothing is getting to 105 or 106 bus stable, regardless of the CPU.

AMDGamer doesn't like naked setups, but I bet most of us have been there at one point or another. I was running naked when I first got my tri sli GTX275 setup. I didn't have a case big enough at the time. It can really keep the hardware cool.

ASUS P8H67-M Pro here... and I dont know if its stable or not only done 4% on it since I overclocked... shaved 2min though...

sounds like it may be board dependant more than anything else. Chances are the best samples will hit the higher bus speed, everyone else is screwed though.

Can't say I like the new overclocking "rules" I hate that it completely limits you outside of a pair of chips

out of curiosity... those b3 or b2?

you managed to get your hands on a lot quick if those are b3...

you need a new keyboard

its an old packard bell keyboard :D

so.....ya.....once it dies ill get a new backup keyboard (its a headless boxen most of the time, this is only plugged in for config :D)

is 106 really that odd to have stable? folding for 11.5 hours + seems stable to me...
had you not replied I was gonna try upping it again...

That same clock generate is used to run all other clocks, so all your buses at running +6% which can kill drives and graphics cards.

Id say push it and see how high the limit is :D

Kill graphics cards?

Really?

If you set the clock too high then it is very possible, but the hard drive would properly go first. That used to be a problem before mobos without over-clocking features can out (which non k's are back to), just saying that there is a real risk if you are not careful.

There is a reason why up until last year the major overclocking champs would use IDE drive instead of sata... that bus could take more abuse...

but seriously I have never used the multi to overclock any system... are these new boards THAT fragile?

this is a dedicated bigadv box... 320gb hd (that I don't want to lose just because) and a x300 card... which I got so I could put it in systems that might kill stuff and not be too worried...

It's not the boards. The problem is that there is only one clock generator (embedded in the cpu), everything runs off that. So if you over-clock that, you over clock all the system buses, which many devices base their timings on. This is where Intel has pissed many people off (but I'm loving the K series).

well I know the pcie bus can take 10-15 over... but...dunno about the hard drives...

my 2600k is now at 4.8 ghz, going to try for 5.0 today (1.44v, i am still learning this bios/EFI so its higher than I thought I set it).....this sabertooth p67 is a very nice board

FSB isn't a huge deal IMO if you can do at least 3 clicks with a P67. Over 3 clicks = more than 100MHz so you may as well adjust with a multiplier bump.

If you are on a H67 it is a big deal to get more than 3 since that is the only option.

On the hard drive thing, I use cheapo SSDs. Less power, less heat, less need for cooling, less noise.

So if PCIe GPUs can go over 110 pretty reliably what controller could you switch to for boot volumes for highest BCLK? Maybe USB or ethernet? The 35x max 4c turbo on the i7-2600 would make for 35x115 = 4025mhz.

its not a 2600 it has a lower max multi...
stock is 3.1 so I think the max 4c is 34

I will see what it does... I don't think it would kill drives... just be unstable...

yea, I see what you're saying. If the hard drive controller flakes out before the ethernet or USB controllers, perhaps you could boot from one of them instead. Again, I think this could be a board specific thing. Either that or we just need more data on how the controllers respond to increased clockspeeds. Thats going to require testing... so who wants to step up? :p
