Just ordered a GTX280!

anyone rushing out right now to buy a gtx 280 (or even 2-3 of them, good God) is

1) an nvidia fanboy, waiting to lick the newest drop of semen from nvidia's proverbial penis
2) an idiot with more money than brains, who gets off on having the ZOMG NEWEST CARD LULZ SO I CAN IMPRESS MY E-FRIENDS (cuz i dont have any irl)

now don't get me wrong, I bought an 8800 gtx the week it came out. But the gtx 280 now isn't as great as the 8800 gtx was back in nov. 06.

You need a vacation from here...your obviously having trouble holding an adult conversation

I bought my 280's to have fun! Why in the hell would I by video cards to impress people?

it's their right to spend their money however they want
it's my right to call them a dumbass if i want

God bless America

Lol I was wondering when he would be banned. Good job Mods.

Yup, God Bless America... except this forum isn't run as a democracy - it's a privately owned and operated venture and you have absolutely no 'right' to post here, especially if you are going to directly and outright insult a fellow forum member.

God Bless the almighty banhammer - may it fall squarely on your noggin.

[EDIT: Oh LOL, looks like he's gonna have a sore noggin! :D]

Also ordered a 1200W PSU with it as my current one doesn't have the 8-pin power cable. All in all, I spent like 1200 for those two items and a few other parts.

Will post pictures if I decide to go through with it.

1200W is a waste of money and will also raise your energy bill.

Not by much if at all. Having a 1200w PSU doesn't mean your rig will draw 1200 watts constantly. It will draw whatever the components need plus a bit extra depending on efficiency.

You are correct.

You are wrong or Trolling.

Then there is the physics capabilities of the GTX 280 ..................................:D

Oh my goodness!!!! Can't believe my thread actually burns this much fuse...

I was holding off for a price drop. guess what the EVGA 280 HC version had dropped from 879 to 800. just preordered directly from EVGA.

Why wouldn't it? The GTX 280 is a bad ass card, no if ands or buts about it. It really just boils down to a matter of cost. If the card had come out at $450 it would have been heralded as the next best thing to $3 a gallon gas. It's pretty obvious that some places were low balling its capabilities like Anandtech. Their review was the worst piece of garbage I've seen from them. I upgraded from a 9800 GX2 and they have all the average FPS charts telling me that the 9800 GX2 was outrunning the GTX 280 in Crysis? What the hell were they smoking! The 280 rips the GX2 a new one in Crysis at 1920x1200 in high and very high settings, at least from my experience, which apparently the [H] review seemed to agree.

The problem is that the 280 is too expensive relative to the 4850 and even some of nVidia's on product line. Its the best, just not by enough for its current price. That will change in a month. nVidia is good at releasing over prices cards and to milk the faithful like myself and then lower the price when needed.

It's my contribution to GPU R&D!:p

Anandtech had 8800GT SLI beating the 280 too, which is funny, because, at worst, the 280 matches the 8800GT SLI and usually trounces it in minimum FPS at 1080p.

... or the impatient, like me. Actually, this is unusual for me to be on the expensive, bleeding edge of early adoption, but if my current stuff begins to annoy me enough, I have been known to make exceptions to my upgrade cycle. :D

I got 27 days left to return this GTX 280 for a refund and if the numbers I'm seeing for the HD 4870 hold true, I'll be doing it.

Back to Newegg or a different vendor? I wonder if I do return and exchange it for different card would I be charged the 15% restocking fee?

Pretty sure Newegg will not allow you to exchange it for a different card. Only way is to return it, get the refund and purchase a different card. On a return with newegg, they will charge you a 15% restocking fee. They did that with me when i wanted to go from 9800gtx to 9800gx2 (yeah i know, ignorance led to uninformed purchase).

Enjoy your gold brick. I hope they deliver it through your Window landing in you good china cabinet knocking over and breaking some 5th Chinese Dynasty Vases along with destroying some plates that Abe Lincoln ate on the hour before he was shot, causing the cabinet to tip over into your 10,000 HDTV that falls over on your $1,000 Blu-Ray player that catches on fire causing the sprinkler system to go off ruining the treasure maps you have on your desk that would lead to the lost city of gold.

I'm worried about this guy

Why arent all these crybabies bitching and moaning about all the hollywood types and their 2-3000 dollar purses. Those are pretty impractical, and offer no price/performance. If you can afford the card, more power to you. I still REALLY want to bite, but i just have to wait for the 4870. And i'm still holding out hope that the msrp will drop before august when my stepup expires.

*If* you can keep the itch at bay until August, that should help your bank account, because I think th the 4870x2/4890 will give the 280 a run for its money.

That's the best you could come up with? Ignorant ass...

We need the banhammer in here stat to deal with all the petty name calling and other BS.

If you guys can't add anything constructive and/or carry on a civilized conversation, then please kindly do us all a favor and don't post at all.

Amen.

Same thing every time a new high end product is released people can't afford, people get jealous and like to ridicule the people buying them. Ridicule me all you want I'll be too busy enjoying the GTX 280 to care :D. I have faith these cards performance gap will increase as drivers and new games come out

Okay, followed other's recommendation, I refused the package delivery so it's being shipped back to Newegg. I hope it'll go like what they said, that Newegg will refund my purchase price plus the shipping. Even if not the shipping charge, I would still be happy with it. Just didn't feel right when I placed the order. Although I also ordered other stuffs that I need now (E2220 and X-Fi PCI-E 4x soundcard) along the GTX280 and 1200W PSU, I can always reorder them later. Will just stick to what I have right now and see if AMD can force Nvidia to lower their price later on.

You're probably going to get hit with a restocking fee aren't you?

you wont get restocking fee unless its openned. make sure to call them up in about a week. sometimes it gets sent back to a warehouse it did not originate from and you have to apply a little leverage to get them to follow up.

Gonna do a follow-up email to their customer service. Hope it won't take forever to get my refund.

You probably wont get the restocking fee as from my experience with newegg, only RMAed items for refund gets hit with that.
GL though.
