EVERYTHING I'm mouseover-ing is cheaper on Amazon. This is nuts. Fuck Newegg, Amazon is my new favorite computer component supplier.

SHAMWOW!

yes Newzon is a solid tool, saved me a few bucks already.

That's because NewEgg got stuck in a common retail conundrum. Their management decided they could increase margins by raising prices just a little .. rinse and repeat each year. Greed ruins companies. Next thing they did was cut back customer service to squeeze just a little more out of margins. Now they're just like every other site on the web.

I have to pay tax with Amazon and not with Newegg (though maybe not for long...), but if the price + tax is the same as Newegg's price, I'd go Amazon 100% of the time.

Even if it was a few bucks more I'd still probably go Amazon. I do have Prime, though, so that's a large factor. Plus their customer service is infinitely better.

I used to spend thousands of dollars at NewEgg, now with Prime Shipping I almost always go with Amazon

Same.

I wonder if their overall profits have actually gone up even though they've lost so much of the enthusiast crowd these last four years.

My last few deals came from Best Buy, TigerDirect, Raktuten.com and NCIX.
I find myself show-rooming Amazon also.

NewZon seems to break newegg.com on chrome for me a good chunk of the time. It will sometimes just refuse to load. I can pull up the same page in incognito without the plugin, and it loads instantly.

I remember the days when you could write them a thank you email and they'd look up your account and send you a care package of promo items. Now a days, I can only imagine that they'd send a computer generated response thanking you for choosing NE and then showing you their latest newsletter of clearance items that people didn't want to buy.

Newegg's return policy, poor packing and shipping, and reselling items as new that often look used is what has killed them. I'm not certain they will ever get turned around. They will remain in business but will not be the dominant PC web retailer that they were 5 years ago.

This is true for me also, and the only reason I still shop at NE occasionally. I've got both Prime and Shoprunner, so if something is the same price on NE I'll probably get it there to save on tax. If it's something cheap I may not bother, but for a more expensive item, it'll be NE.

However, NE is rarely cheaper or equally priced to Amazon anyway... especially with some of Amazon's Warehouse deals I've gotten lately. Any time you buy something, check Amazon for one of their in-house open box deals. I've gotten several items this way at significant savings, and it's usually just a dent in the box or something stupid. Everything has always been sealed and 100% new on the inside.

Yeah, they have gone down hill a good bit. Use to be free shipping on all kinda things, and even if it was not even with shipping it was far and away cheaper than other places. They made a name for them selves from the enthusiast side of things and because of that, everyone seems to know newegg, every nonenthusiast I know talks about newegg when buying something, it's like anything else, they are riding off the name they made. The only thing they have going for them is a nice website.

Support use to be great, last few times I bought something I sent an email asking some questions and never got a reply (it has now been almost a year since my last order because of that experience). Before, when they were new, I ordered some RAM, a week passed and nothing, waited a few more days, still nothing and tracking did not update, sent an email and had a reply the same day, saying they called the shipper and they could not find the package at the last location it was listed at and they had already put in another set to be shipped out to me with 1 day shipping, I thought that was very good for something they could not help. A week later I got the first set in the mail, wrote them back and told them as such and what they wanted me to do, they said to keep them, free set of RAM. Something tells me they would not be so helpful or nice today.

I am a fan of NewZon as well. Would it be appropriate to mention the tool on a FB status? I dont want to overload Kyle's servers

Please mention it all you want! :)

Whether you like what Newegg is doing or not, having a site scripted to redirect you on their links so they can earn a few cents is flat out shameless and petty.

Then go waste another sites bandwidth.

This is a silly thread, if you cared about things being cheaper then why are you so surprised, it means you were never checking anyway? May I introduce you to google and bing shopping as well as slick deals and techbargains? If you are relying on a single website for all your shopping and a single plugin you are missing lots of great deals.

And just for the record newegg has been bad at pricing for many years now, but what they have amazon sorely crushed on is a way better website and pictures and stuff. Newegg now considers their website, one of the best in the world their core competency more so than prices. That is why the vast majority of people everywhere link to newegg when they are trying to describe a product even if they have no intentions of buying from newegg.

Amazon has superior customer service, and also has been having much better pricing on average for a number of years, prime shipping is killer as well, but not on good sales, newegg still steals about half my business. However amazons site is a mess and looks like something out of the 90s geocities sites. They have never fixed that.

As for hard, well I think personally that their link interference is annoying at best one time I paused and it auto directed me, first time I saw it I said WTF. I have seen plenty of websites in my day kill themselves over bad ad practices. I also think personally that they are acting a little immature, one day Amazon will be like walmart, a giant careless beast that dominates everything and what then if Amazon screws hard over? you think that newegg will give hard another chance after the childish attack they have perpetuated? You can troll anyone you want on forums but when you run a legit business you shouldn't go burning down bridges that could one day feed your family every time something doesn't go your way. Do you think that the few small vendors like directron can afford to prop hard up? I think there were other less publicized issues between hard and sponsors that ended in bans etc... But ultimately every company has to decide what their ads are worth and we all know that the entire ad market is probably a bubble so don't be surprised when companies decide they need to scale back.

I must be fucking stupid, cuz I can't get this thing to work at all. Does No Script have anything to do with the fact that I can't see the icon or anything?

If I got the same service at amazon as I did at newegg then I might shop there more but amazon is pretty bad for me.

Maybe my account is flagged as the send returns to account but many times I have received obvious returns from amazon. Items that still have other peoples shipping and rma labels on the box, items opened and missing parts, or used and broken items.

Prime has become a joke to me, half the stuff I used to buy is now an add on item and quiet a few times amazon has decided to ship my items ground instead of two day or even one day when I pay for it making prime useless.

I'm lucky if 1 out of 4 orders at amazon isn't messed up in some way and these are all items sold from directly from amazon and not a reseller.

You have horrible luck then. I'm a sys admin and purchase from Amazon ALL THE TIME! I'm talking 10-20 orders a week. I must say I've only received something that wasn't advertised properly maybe once or twice...

Yea I have had allot of this too. Box of glasses missing a single glass etc. Going to return an aquarium light that does not work tomorrow.

I highly recommend getting an Amazon Prime account to make the deals even sweeter. It's usually 50% with an .edu address.

Someone at Amazon doesn't like you. I get everything with Prime - groceries, books, computer parts ,etc etc - I have 100s of Amazon boxes saved in my garage. Not one shipping issue, ever.

Hrm, wonder if they will reimburse me! I thought eh require a minimum of "__" amount of supplies to be ordered?

Only reason I buy from Newegg is Bill Me Later. No payments for a couple of months is pretty sweet.

Lawsuit threats or desire to expand function / audience?

If I did not have to pay tax id use amazon for my high dollar prurchases. but the discounts they have usually = out or are a little higher than the egg when you have to pay the tax. Anyhow I love the app they made here very nice indeed.

Per what Kyle has mentioned in the off topic General Mayhem section of the forum, they are expanding the product and audience to be more brand agnostic.

I'm not seeing the savings.

I just built a PC with these parts, all from Newegg. Using Amazon would have cost me another $200 or something.

Corsair 550D $99
2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical $96
Intel Core i5-4670K $200
Noctua U12P $62
WD 1TB Blue $60
WD 1TB Blue $42
Sandisk Ultra 256GB $160
Asus P8Z87 Pro $160 (+ $25 credit)
Seasonic 650RM $60
LG BD Burner $60

Im looking at the parts you are saying you used on ebay and finding the prices you list are not even remotely close. When did you order this and how did you get these low prices?

Why would you look on ebay (where people sell higher than msrp) when he says he got them on newegg....

And those prices he has stated are correct from newegg, wait for deals and coupons and newegg is usually cheaper than amazon.

Sorry massive swipe screwup. Newegg. None of the things he listed is that cheap a lot of it is significantly more than he got it for.

I got them over a 6-week span on Newegg, waiting for deals. That's how to buy from Newegg. If you need to do all your shopping in one day, Amazon is cheaper.

Newegg has regular sales on certain stuff, like say an Asus 660 GTX, it's regularly like $210, but drops to $170 every 2-3 weeks, for a few days.

I bought everything that way.

i certainly don't like newegg return policy...
