Just bought an Alienware

"to bright of a case"

Like i said earlyer I added a few extra lights in that pc. I added a 4 12inch green lights.
I also modified it a little more by adding a 120mm Zalerman Cpu Fan wich ways a ton buy is very very quiet and cools my system very nicely. Also I added 4 or 5 Silent X 80mm case fans that dont move much air but are bery quiet. The cool thing is that I can keep my system to about 30*C and a little bit below on average.
 
Just a note....very slightly off topic. You guys may remember that the news reported that Lucas used an Athlon64 to create and render Episode III. You may want to consider that since Alienware is having a huge Star Wars promotion, including discounts on Hyperspace (Starwars.com premium site), that George Lucas got his computers from Alienware. They might have even donated them for the right to run a Star Wars promotion.
 
It's so close I can hear it calling me. My computer will be in today. HALF-LIFE 2 @ 1920x1200 HERE I COME. I'll post pictures before the weekend :D

lol, just alittle. Actually its funny you mention that, I just learned that Sin City was edited and rendred on A64 machines too.
 
If i was robbing your house, and I could only take 1 thing from your room, It would be the Monitor and I would leave that computer....

I currently own 2 Alienwares. Yes thats right I said TWO. They are by far the best computer building company, or whatever you want to call them. They're computers are so well built inside, I couldn't find any wires when I looked inside the case for the first time except for a few. I do not see what you people have against Alienwares, when some people have the money to buy them, and some do not. Also some people don't want to build they're own, as I didn't want to but I have in the past and I prefer a prebuilt.
My system cost me about $3500, and my laptop was about $2700. I went to pretty much every other computer manufacuter I could find, and they either didn't have the same parts for the laptop, or were more expensive. Dells XPS at its stock price is more expensive then mine.
I find this kind of funny, as I posted in another forum I frequently visit about what I got, and I ended up with 10 pages of bashing against me for buying this. What is the big deal? People are different, some people might want to get an Alienware, while others do not. You dont have to make that person feel bad just because he wanted one.
I tell you this - I do not regret my purchase one bit at all. One of the best investments I've ever made.
Oh and one more thing - I didn't read this whole thread, but if anyone said anything about about their support/tech support, I have to say this: They have some of the best techs I have EVER dealt with. They have helped me with whatever problem I had, walked me through a format of windows when my windows disc wouldn't work, helped me get RAID 0 on my two hard drivers after I upgraded it myself. They are top notch tech support, best I've ever used, as I said already.
 
Lets hope this thread doesn't stray to the bashing aspect again. ;)

My computer is bone stock from the factory. I havent even tweaked it yet, let alone overclock. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.
 
Don't listen to the crap people are giving you. Your comp looks amazing I wouldn't mind having it.

I ordered an Ultra from them. Unless they jipped me and oc'd a GT and put it in my computer, it should be an Ultra.

A succesfull business is just that becuase it meets a need. Alienware has a succcesful formula. Many of us would not purchase one but that does not make them a bad company. They have people working for them that need to feed thier families just like we do. They offer a high quality over priced product that fullfills the needs of those who feel that for them, Alienware offers the right value added product that meets their particular need. Its that simple

To make fun of someone buying one is akin to making fun of a guy who is drinking OJ juice from concentrate because you hand squeez yours cheaper and get better quality.

I bought an Alienware computer about 5 years ago, I was overseas and did not have time to build one or even get the parts shipped to me and my kid needed a new computer ASAP so I ordered it and had it shipped home. I was less than satisfied with their customer service, seemed like a group of anal idiots. Example: The mouse that came with the system was dead - DOA. You would think after giving them $3500 that they would take care of this pretty quickly (send out a new mouse) - no, they wanted me to send the mouse back and then if they determined the mouse was really dead then they would send me a new one, naw don't take my word for it, I've only been a computer tech for 15 years :rolleyes: . I told them that was unacceptable (waste of too much time) and I told them to just credit me the price of the mouse when they received it and I would just buy my own damn mouse. They never credited me for the mouse ($35) even though everyone I talked to said they received the mouse and indeed it was dead, it's been 5 years and no credit and I got tired of bitching at them about it. Needless to say, I'll never give them any business in the future or recommend them to friends. Can't say I was happy with their choice of motherboard (non-oc Intel) or hard drive either (IBM deathstar).

Sorry about your bad experiance, but I have been dealing with them for over 2 years and have only had one problem, and a insignificant one at that. It was a broken coffee mug on shipping, and within two days I had a new one and got to keep the broken one (yay lol). But as my previous post said, I have 2 and they kick ass.

hello: I have two alienware comps. well I tore one apart and now just use the case, but it still lives in another form. Anyway Ive had some less than satisfactory customer service too. I have a post in here somewhere about it. BUT what I did was go to resellerratings.com and post a nice long detailed discussion about my plight. (this was after a month of trying to get someone at AW to listen to me.) Well, the next day I got an email from a lady there in charge of watching resellerratings. The problem was fixed in one day. Kind of a pain in the ass but it worked. You should try it. As far as machines go,AW is ok in my book and that new spanky green box is very nice. I have an 18 month old black one for my son. He abuses it daily and it still kicks butt in all games. Try resellerratings,you might be surprised?? :D
 
There is something special about buying a pre-built system rather than assembling it yourself. Just think about all the labor that went into creating a custom configuration like an Alienware. There is R&D behind every PC that comes out of a major manufacturer. The PC's are tested for things like temperature tolerance, physical shock tolerance, power fluctuations, and general wear and tear. Major manufacturers don't simply slap together untested components. The prototypes are stability tested and burnt in for weeks and months at a time in all sorts of extreme thermal environments. Also, since a manufacturer deals with the same config thousands of times, a certain level of reliability is assured. Any problems will have been rooted out.

I have built every computer I have owned with the exception of my first one but I love to admire my friend's store bought custom gaming boxes. There is just something exciting about them. Perhaps it is that you don't know quite what to expect when you bench it or open the case for the first time. Its also nice to boot to a Windows desktop instead of a boot device error when you start up your machine. Accept that some people enjoy computers from a software and not a hardware perspective. I have a friend who would never open up a case but is incredibly proficient in all sorts of advanced Web Design. Interests vary. I respect the OP's research and decision. Like he keeps trying to say, he needed financing and Alienware provided it.

Hardforum needs to learn to be more welcoming and congratulatory in general. This elitist attitude has got to go.

while i would personally never spend that much on a system, i think you did get a nice comp. but while i think that cases that have doors that cover up the optical/floppy drives do look cool most of the time, i can't stand having to open a damn door just to load/eject a CD, or stick a floppy in the drive. i think the only alienware system i would consider would be one of their laptops.

but i do think you made the right choice by switching the monitors, that made the price a lot more worth it IMO.....

and to all the people who are bashing him just because he bought a pre-built instead of doing it himself for cheaper, you need to save it. sure, feel free to express your opinion, but you don't have to be asses about it, just cause you can. you people are the type of people who argue that you can either pay $85,000+ for a Dodge Viper, or spend a total of $30,000 - $40,000 to build a Camaro/Trans Am yourself that would spank the dogshit out of the Viper. it's a ricer argument, only for computers instead of cars. get over it....after all, you didn't spend the money on it, so why should you give a shit if he did? his decision affects you.....how?

but yes...i do agree.....a UPS is a mandatory, very, very, very near-future item.....
